In addition to the annoying distractions, the point I’m trying to make is that there isn’t any need to illustrate the article with so many external links — unless you’re assuming that your readers are not up to speed enough to understand what you are saying. That being the case it behooves the writer to adjust the level of his / her dialog to the point where people will understand without requiring additional or further reading.
External links are also an invitation to your readers to leave; which increases the risk of them not returning, hence you’ve lost a customer.
In example a paragraph from this article potentially looks like this:
The numbers are even worse if you look at what has happened to the private sector, which [ FIRST YOU NEED TO READ THIS! ] since the end of 2007. Warren Buffett, who paradoxically insists that he’s not taxed enough while his firm [ FIRST YOU NEED TO READ THIS! ] over tax claims going back to 2002, has stated that as far as he’s concerned, the economy [ FIRST YOU NEED TO READ THIS! ] until “real per capita GDP gets back up to where it was before.” By the Buffett benchmark, we’re still in hole [ FIRST YOU NEED TO READ THIS! ].
Sometimes one of the most beneficial aspects of training and development is listening.
