“Have the reforms improved the quality of candidates? Some would argue that the old wise men of the two parties who used to meet in smoke filled rooms to choose a nominee got it right more often than not.”
Riiiiiiight. Because George W. Bush wasn’t hand-picked by those same “old wise men”. Because an outside, “dark horse” candidate has a much better chance of getting the nomination in the face of the power elites’ favorite.
I’m reminded of an old song, too: “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
