the brits notions of themselves as superior, comes from having once been a dominant global power (stealing natural resources and enslaving indigenous natives, of course). now they are stuck in rather cramped quarters, cheek by jowl with the arabs, whom they despise and fear. their deeply class conscious society is also falling apart, the upper class riddled with arabs standing on their oil money. frightened and vulnerable, the brits are compelled to express themselves not in their own country, but in some far away scenario, as if they are participants. although they neither understand or value america or its culture, they support barry obama, someone about whom they know far less than we do. which isn’t much, and what we do know is not too good. perhaps, it is that in their misery they would like some company. i wouldn’t plan on it though, despite our various looming debacles, america is still rambunctious, chaotic, crayoning outside the lines, energetic. and, most of all, outspoken.
