The framers weren’t in quite the time warp you seem to thin they were. The framers went forward with the wording in both Article 6 and Amendment 1, knowing full well that Muslims, or Mohhametans as they were known then, would not only be given full religious rights but also full citizen rights, including holding government office. For example, a delegate to North Carolina’s ratifying convention objected that (in this instance, Article 6) would allow “pagans, deists and Mohametans” to seek office.
