Cain strikes me as a guy who has been a Republican all his adult life. He has pursued business, and has paid only cursory attention to the world of politics. Suddenly, he can see we’re in a mess, and he thinks he can fix it with managerial skills… while being ignorant of most of the politics. He’s a johnny-come-lately.

If he is the nominee, I’ll vote for him, but he should not be the nominee. He simply does not know enough. He does not yet have a consistent world-view of his own. There has not been enough reading and thinking about political philosophy.

“Reagan In His Own Hand” demonstrated that the “amiable dunce” had actually done a lot of reading and thinking and writing. From the things Herman Cain says, he is no Ronald Reagan.

Bachmann is far more advanced along that path, but is still a work in progress. She also lacks Cain’s executive experience. Palin is like Bachmann, but has executive experience. “Flip-flop Mitt” also has no consistent philosophy other than whatever will get him elected. Paul is consistent, but… Geez. The whole field is very flawed, sadly. In 8 years, the Republican Party will have a whole array of stars to offer us. The 2020 election will be something, but we do not have 8 years.
