Wrong about when weapon control got started. Tribes or bandit gangs that conquered new areas wanted to make sure the conquered did not have weapons, so they banned the subject people having weapons.
Some of the conquered people came to regard the lack of weapons as virtue instead of oppression, it’s why so many Jews are anti firearm, and why people like Code Pink exist.
