For those on the Right (not just GOPers), this is actually a political positive. We’ve seen repeatedly that gun control efforts play poorly with independents and strongly motivate the Republican base and gun owners in elections. With any luck, Cummings will give the NRA some great footage to use for campaign ads in 2012.
American voters might be rationally ignorant, but they are not dumb (at least, not for long). These kinds of ridiculous gun control hearings will just add to the argument that Operation Gunwalker was entirely about promoting gun control politically, with no regard for the lives it might cost in Mexico and the US.
