He seems to have failed to mention the first gun control laws were put in place to keep guns out of the hands of freed slaves. Or that the Sullivan Act in NYC was enacted with a wave of anti-immigrant rhetoric and permitted the police to keep the guns out of the hands of those they considered the criminal element.
In any case, given what the NYC police chief you quote said, all we can say is at least ‘Bull’ Conner was above board in his racism unlike these senior police officials today.
