I have another take on this – McCarthy knows he can’t do anything about crime in Chicago because it’s citizens have been disarmed, and only the bad guys have guns. Also, he knows that most of the bad guys in this instance are not white. So, what does he do to cover himself and try and get some job security: he blames guns and government racism. So the bad guys are excused of the crimes they are committing because it was government racism that “drove” them to commit the crimes, and of course, he blames guns because that’s the easiest thing to do given that the disarmed population actually fears guns.
BTW If it’s government racism, why not simply eliminate as much of the government as possible to eliminate the racism?
