The comment that our Governors are those in training to be President is a good one. But, there is also “continuing education” in DC, at Fort McNair. Back when Harry Truman was President the new National War College was a place he would go to and listen to lectures on issues like foreign policy and strategy. This is not a plug for Senator McCain, who is a graduate. Rather, it is to say that for me it would be doubly impressive if someone like Senator Obama or Senator Biden or Senator Clinton (or some Governor who happened to be in town) were known to have stopped down and listened to an hour lecture and then 30 minutes of give and take between the regular students (rougly 75% military and 25% foreign service/other executive branch) and the speaker.
To paraphrase Yogi Berra, you can learn a lot by just listening.
