I think the distinction to be made here is that there is a difference between the old fundamentalist/evangelical church of the South and the evangelical churches of the West and the Northwest.
When the rubber hits the road there is a more
“frontier” libertarian quality to the Western Evangelical lifestyle and less community pressure for conformity, reflected in Alaska where, to survive, you learn to respect and depend upon your neighbor.
