The difference is, back then, sutdio PR guys could cover up stories of excess. My grandfather, John Gilbert, used to carouse mightily with Doug Fairbanks (father and son, in fact) ended up in Mexican jails, small town police offices, etc. all of which (most of which) was kept out of the press. Ah, the good old days!
