In his book “America Alone” Mark Steyn presents cogent arguments against Britain’s surviving its demographic trends and governmental/cultural inertia. These arguments are reinforced by near-daily stories about ceaseless encroachment into British life of forces that are completely inimical to the philosophy that forged the nation.
The commonalities in heritage to which you refer are in danger of disappearing altogether in Britain. They’re under assault in the U.S., to be sure, but are meeting much stauncher resistance and have made comparatively little progress.
If dismissing commentary about these trends as “snarky” satisfies you, it’s your prerogative to keep doing so. Reality, OTOH, will not be dismissed as readily. If Britain continues to do nothing effective to resist the forces that are bent on changing its nature, it will cease to exist as you know it. That is much more probable than you are evidently willing to perceive.
