No one said that ALL husbands hid. You cannot believe that there were no knives or clubs available. Since Roman before the Romans Jews have stood and fought, sometimes knowing they could not win. The point is that even if you know you cannot win, sometimes you must fight anyway. You never know you could get lucky. Live is good but sometimes there are things more important than life. I am not Jewish, but all of my 60 plus years I have known Jews that I liked and respected, but I could never understand why SOME of them has a almost psychotic fear of learning how to use weapons. Being civilized and basically a good person does not mean you should not kill to save your self or family from barbarians. In my mind when a JDF soldier shoots a 15 year old Arab with a bomb is a better man than some educated Jew decries the Israelis on the floor of the UN for such an act. Judaism is the basis of most Western religion and to a large extent civilization in Europe and the Americas that alone makes it worth fighting for.
