I’m of the opinion that Obama, growing up in the late 70s while attending predominately white institutions, received endless ego strokes and pampering for being so greatly different from the typical white’s stereotype of a young black man. (In this way, the educators and administrators at those institutions assured themselves they were diverse and not prejudice.)
Unfortunately, he seems to have bought into the coddling rather than seeing it for what it actually was. As such his “audacity” is really just an over-inflated ego, and these stumbles and the strain are just signs that he is, for the first time in his life, confronting the fact that he may not be all that.
