Guys,
I’m bleary eyed.
Like a good girl, today, I went to my classes, then softball practice, (worked on a change up) ate, talked to my Dad on the phone, read about the supremes, clicked on Drudge and stopped in at PJM to see what you guys were up to, and to ask a question.
Anybody remember what Jay Leno asked Hugh Grant on July 4, 2006?
No?
When Hugh walked out on the Tonight Show stage that evening and sat down, Jay opened with, “Tell me,Hugh, what were you thinking?”
This, of course, was in reference to Hugh’s hooker experience/arrest some days before.
I guess women have a way of making famous guys, maybe most guys, go bananas.
So can somebody please explain to me what Obama was thinking when he said to a small crowd of people today, Hey, you can put lipstick on a pig, but she’s still a pig.”
Well, I submit to you that a sexist remark that foul demotes Obama to the status of swine. A pig in men’s clothing.
What this oinker of a joke, of course, was;
a reference to Sarah Palin’s convention comment about telling the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull. It was a bald faced slap shot in Sarah’s face, really in the face of all women.
(My Dad says that the fact Biden also recently referenced lipstick in a noxious way removes any innocent remark argument.)
Now, Barack’s see-how many-times-we-can-shoot outselves-in-the-foot-in-a-48-hour-news-cycle gang, is sending 30 lawyers to Alaska to see what kind of dirt they can dig up to feed to the mainstream Barack bootlickin’media’s smear machine.
I swear, these guys are so dirty they make the Chicago sewer system look like a Paris Island boot camp foot locker.
But it’s more than that.
I haven’t heard anyone say it before so let me try to be the first. The Obama campaign not only looks like its dirt spreading machine is becoming unhinged, but it looks disorganized. Leaderless. (as in, “don’t blame me, it wasn’t my idea”)
Like the German high command in France when the Screaming Eagles were landing all over hell’s half acre. Rommel was home, Hitler was sleeping. And no one had the b’s to give the marching orders.
Moreover, I really do have the sneaking suspicion that Obama’s barely competent high command is positioning themselves not to be the losers in the post convention blame game.
And that’s one of the characteristics that every four years the Democratic Party passes on like one inbred family gene to another.
They hire their friends, dumb, dumber and then some to fill communications slots that should be filled by the best and the brightest, like Ike and Nixon used to do.
Instead, they have pollsters and creative peons writing strategies that aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. They make commercials that a memory expert would forget.
What’s more, if I hear Obama tomorrow tell the TV audience, “Look, I’ll be the first to admit”, yesterday I misspoke, I swear I’ll explode.
Or not. Actually, my sense is that something good is happening across America. I think that Sarah Palin is tapping into something that political correctness can brutalize but can’t seem to kill; something that’s part of the very fabric of our nation.
For me, she embodies the pioneer spirit. The sense of fairness and decency, belief in family, trust in God that formed the bedrock of our beliefs; the foundation of our constitution.
If an overlay of guilt and self doubt is now being spread across this nation where a warm quilt of pride once covered it, that’s wrong.
Maybe there’s something we’ve kind of forgotten along the way. Something that Sarah reminded me of. When her country called, she didn’t hesitate. Like enraged citizens on Monday, December 8th, 1941, she, too, answered the call. For me, she’s something uniquely American.
She’s Crockett at the Alamo. Barefoot troops at Valley Forge. Charging Teddy. Alvin York, the pacifist in France. A.C. McAuliffe at Bastogne. McCain in the Hanoi Hilton. For little old Rachel, Sarah Palin is right up there with the best of them.
This woman, mother of five, does more than make me proud to be a woman.
She makes me prouder than ever before to be an American.
