I and I think historians will eventually disagree about your Clinton retrospective. Bush the first lost because of Ross Perot. Clinton was the beneficiary of the fear of the US the world had at the time because of Desert Storm. This provided a backdrop of peace for many years. As to the economy Clinton was not responsible for the internet boom, the PC boom, the cell phone boom or the Y2K phenomena that propelled the economy and the stock market to dizzying heights. Under his watch he spent more money going after the Microsoft monopoly than he did going after Bin Laden.
Bush the second inherited a mess. Stock market crash and Bin Laden. Certainly the way he fought in Iraq in the beginning was a disaster. But Greenspan’s response to 911 laid the foundation for the housing bubble and the ensuing slump.
I personally would be happy to vote for a black man for president. It would be great for the country. Obama is just way to left for me. Since I will not sit out the election I will vote for McCain.
