One can sum up Ms. Scalia’s well-stated piece under the phrase “NANNY STATE.”
As in, “Now child, we don’t expect you to understand why we’re making you do (or, stopping you from doing) this, we’re here to help, so just do what we say and we won’t have to punish you and take more serious measures…”.
