Having carefully followed both Monckton and Abraham, my considered conclusion is that Abraham is trying to conduct a scientific debate while Monckton is trying to conduct a media circus. Monckton frames this as a “debate”, but it seems he’s imagining the kind of debate-as-sport where it doesn’t really matter who’s right as long as you can level enough witty insults at your opponent. Politicians have a tendency to confuse this kind of after-school-club debate with something that actually establishes truth or advances human interests. Rhetoric does not make one right. But then, Monckton’s rhetoric is almost as clumsy as his science, so perhaps he loses the debate on both counts…
