My recent trip to Spain coincided with ETA’s decision to end its truce with the government, an event that many felt Zapatero handled poorly. Spaniards bristle if you tell them they’re soft on terror; they simply feel they have different priorities where terror is concerned.
That said, I saw more Muslims than ever in Madrid, more Turkish kabob restaurants than I could count.
