The problem is, Mapquest can’t get me out of my parent’s neighborhood, as it insists on telling a person to use a nonexistant street.

I’ve been told I give very good directions, though, because I include landmarks, and usually inform people of the crossing before they one they need, so they know “Ah! It’s this next turn here!” I’m not so good with distances, but again, I put in enough other detail that people say “Ah, the third McDonald’s, and the Buddhist temple . . . it should be that little road there!”

I also suggest which lane they want to be in, and where speed traps usually are. Oh, and if someone has asked me, I try to find a way to write it down for them, maybe even draw a little map, because I know how quickly I loose important details when people just tell me.

And finally, I also know that shortcuts are only good if you can describe them very well. I forget which movie this is from, but someone once said something like: “It’s a shortcut, it’s not going to be easy way. If it were easy, it would be called The Way.”
