P.S. – Iran Now Has Fuel for 2 Nuclear Weapons
While the world is focused on bloodshed aboard a Turkish ferryboat manned by sympathizers of the terrorists of Hamas, the real crisis looms like Godzilla rising from the sea. In its latest report on Iran, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, reports that Iran has now piled up enough fuel for two nuclear bombs.
Was this the reason the Security Council went into an emergency huddle on Monday? Was this the reason UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon pronounced himself “shocked”? Was this the reason the European Union called for an inquiry and Turkey’s Prime Ministers Erdogan began clanging alarms about “state terrorism”? Nope. That was all about Israel trying to stop a planned provocation by what turned out to be knife and cudgel-wielding “peace activists” advertising ”aid” as a cover for trying to bust the Israeli blockade on the Hamas terrorists who rule Gaza (and who preside over a welfare enclave subsidized by U.S. and EU tax dollars, with the Israelis letting relief supplies in, while Iranian-backed Hamas and its Islamist pals target Israel with rockets and dedicate themselves to its destruction).
Whether in Washington, New York, Paris, Berlin, Jeddah, Cairo or beyond, anyone quietly depending on the Israelis to scotch Iran’s ambitions for nuclear hegemony over the oil fields of the Arabian Gulf might want to think twice before ganging up further on the Israelis. The real crises are still ahead, and they are not going to be confined to bloody propaganda stunts staged by fake “peace activists” cruising the Mediterranean.

So what are you saying? that Iran is not to be trusted or something?. It’s not like they have killed their own student protesters, exported weapons or terrorists, or kidnapped American citizens and held them for over a year or anything. It’s not like their leader talks to the guy in the well, who tells him to destroy the infidels, and wipe Israel and the “great satan” from the map. Now, just why would anyone be concerned that this country has atomic bombs???? Racism perhaps??? (sarc off).
Keep in mind that the Israeli blockade is designed to prevent flow of Iranian weapons going to Hamas via boats and ships a number that would far exceed what comes through tunnels over land.
How about this?
The timing of the announcement of Iran’s nuke capacity — coincidence?
That this “Flotilla” event was staged and timed precisely to demonstrate to Israel how far into irrationality the world powers would descend — not even making a teensy bit of pretence to view this issue — can I even use the word? — fairly.
If for this nothing event for which Israel has no culpability whatsoever — then what will they do to Israel if it attempts to “do something” about Iran’s nukes?
Seems to me it’s all part of the same threat — led by Iran and friends — with Dhimmi Euros in tow — to intimidate Israel and thereby protect Iran.
The Islamists seem to know precisely how to play the European leaders’ self-aggrandizing pomposity and barely hidden anti-semitism, in which they are now wading chin deep, to cast them fully in the role of extremely useful idiots.
Fortunately, there is still time. Enrichment is a very energy intensive process. Getting 20% HEU up to 93% isn’t difficult, but it does take a lot of time and energy.
I am from Iran and I hate the Iranian government and I can clearly see the how the Israelis feel threaned by them specaiily our A…hole president who denies denies Holocust. However the Israeli government and please notice that I am saying the israeli government and not the Israeli people or the country of Israel.. is the biggest threat to our national security…. much bigger than Iran is
This is the biggest load of BS I have ever read. Israel is not and never has been a threat to anyone who is willing to let it live in peace.
When the Muslims decide to stop killing Jews at every chance, there will be peace in the middle east.
Nonsense. Israel has a parliamentary government and unlike Iran, open and honest elections. The Israeli government is representative of the majority of the Israeli people. They don’t want war – just respect and peace.
Claudia, the double standard, squared, in this anti-Israel splurdge is dangerous to all. If Anut and his fellow nutters get the bomb, they will use it. We do not have a rational opponent; appeasement of violent nutters will get us all nuked.
Sorry but this simply can not be. God speaks that the Earth is only 6,000 years old – such a requirement is totally against what physics teaches which simply shows us that all the talk about nuclear weapons is simply propaganda.
What?
2nd comment of the day. Turns out one of the stalwarts on the Hamas boats was apparently Ed Peck, former US ambassador, best known as Saddam’s laddy. His connection to the baathist and Brotherhood anti-west wars of the 90′s adds to the violent psywar aspect of the whole event.
Great article. The little skirmish in the Mediterranean is successfully distracting the so-called international community from the real threat of an all-out war of Iran, Syria and its proxies with Israel.
And I don’t like to be the smart-ass, but the vessel in question was sailing under the Comoros flag not the Turkish flag. It doesn’t really change anything, but it’s nice to be accurate with the facts.
Ms. Rosett,
While I’m a long time admirer of your work, the title and implications of your piece here are overstated. They do NOT have fuel for two nuclear bombs yet, according to the IAEA reports as represented in the New York Times article.
According to the NYT intepretation of the UN IAEA report, they have a certain amount of 4% enriched uranium.
As a back-of-the envelope calculation, say each bomb needs 25 lb of 90% enriched U-235 (probably a low number).
That means that 1,125 lb of 4% uranium (light water reactor fuel levels) would contain the same amount of U-235.
However, one can not efficiently remove all the unneeded U-238 and must leave something called “tails” so lets just round up to a ton or 2,000 lb of the low enriched stuff. That’s roughly one fuel assembly for a power reactor (out of 800 or so needed per reactor).
That still leaves a lot of SWUs (or separatory work units) to make the conversion to the REAL stuff that bombs need.
Hence, they are still a LONG way, according to the IAEA, from making a bomb. It is news that they are clear about going to 20% enrichment for a medical isotope reactor at 20% enriched.
I’d read this as the IAEA UNDERSTATING the current risk – I think they are ahead of the IAEA’s intepretations.
They are getting closer according to the official reports of the IAEA inspectors. However, they do NOT have fuel for two nuclear bombs.
So while Iran enriches uranium or builds some really nasty dirty bombs, Turkeyand Hamas work on breaking the Israeli blockade of Gaza – the entry point for bomb smuggling.
If the blockade is really lifted, there will be a nuclear terrorist attck on Israel.
Since the prime minister of Turkish come to the power, his country become more and more radical islamist and he is also against Israel. Today he declared that Israel is murdering civilians. Also he declared that Hamas is not terrorist organisation. He is now same as hitler and Ahmadinejad.
