There’s a huge and much-overlooked reason for filling in those gaps in Barack Obama’s resume, and letting America’s voters see any and all tapes, transcripts and other documentation of his career and friendships — and fast. It’s called the potential for blackmail.

Actually, full daylight is the only way to be reasonably sure that Obama himself is safe from blackmail. If voters have seen the worst of it, and don’t mind — well, OK. But if there is damaging information still unknown to the public, but known to somebody out there, then Obama — if he wins the presidency — could make a tempting target.

The same could be said of anyone running for public office. But there is a worrying convergence here of the most powerful office in the world, and the most untested and cryptic candidate in living memory. The question is not simply what Obama knew at the time about a variety of friends and associates, from his not-so-distant past, who in one way or another have been involved in criminal acts, or embraced as a theme the subversion, destruction or damning of America and America’s allies. The question is also: What might such people might know about Obama?

This is not to accuse anyone of planning to lever any still-secret information into undue influence over the Oval Office. But the best defense against that kind of thing in politics has always been genuine and full disclosure.

Take, for instance, the mysteries surrounding the refusal of the Los Angeles Times to release the video of the 2003 Khalidi dinner – Obama’s toasts and all. The people who were there know what Obama actually said, or applauded — or whatever actually happened. The source who gave the video to the LA Times knows (and it’s an intriguing question, why, if nothing untoward took place, a source would want confidentiality  for providing a video of a festive and well-attended dinner). Obama knows — he was there. But the American public does not know.

It is not John McCain and Fox News who should be left to argue the case for a public airing of that tape. In the interest of good faith in asking the trust of American voters, it is Obama himself who should be trying to dig up it up, unedited; and in public, let it roll.

Or, take the case of the house for which Obama paid $1.65 million in Chicago, and the land purchase next door by Syrian-born Tony Rezko, who was convicted in Chicago this June on 16 counts of influence peddling. Are the mysteries fully solved? I cannot vouch for the details in the links that follow, but they make interesting reading. Here’s a summary from John Batchelor, whose blog links in turn to GOPMOM – where there is a photo of a very nice house, and an account of real estate dealings that suggest a weirdly intricate deal, a disturbing number of people who won’t talk, and some good questions which — in the interest of both the public and Obama himself – really deserve to be answered in full before Nov. 4.

Wow, that’s something I hadn’t considered, but makes perfect sense. If you have a president who already has things to hide and wants them kept secret, what would he do to keep them secret? I can think of many things — remember Nixon, but also remember Kennedy and his sexual liasons and ties to organized crime. Remember Clinton lying under oath. What would Obama do for certain shady characters who hate Israel? All under the table of course. Just turn a blind eye to Israel’s plight? That’s just one scenario. Many, many more from paying money to murder….

there is one positive gleam of hope here: the big traditional media organizations are going under, and may be only tiny remnants of themselves by 2012.

The danger is, the US Military. Will it countenance what we fear the Obama-bots seem to wish for America?

  4. 4. John Marshall

Oh my God, too much commonsense!!! This is an overload and we cannot bear it. If good sense like this had prevailed over the last three months, the MSM and both campaigns would have been destroyed. Hillary could not do commonsense because it is not PC.

    Hats Off to Ms. Rosett!

He’s blackmailing *them*. ACORN gets funding, the Greenwich Village Weathermen crowd and the Chicago crime crowd get pardons if they keep quiet for four years. Not eight years, just four. (Think Jimmy Carter if he had had no Navy experience, no farming experience, and was never a governor.)

  6. 6. T-Bird

Heather, I’ve wondered the same thing, but concerning Israel’s military.

After the Ascension, it seems to me that Hamas, Syria, Iran, Putin, Al Qaeda and China will think “Obama’s in charge. So, what’s stopping us from X, Y, and Z?”

If Israel is the first target- as a stern Obama votes “Present” at the UN Security Council- will Israel go nuclear?

  7. 7. PD Quig

That Obama could be anywhere near winning the White House is an indictment of the American people. If he wins it will be a guilty verdict. I will hang the flag upside down if he wins.

    Claudia,
I would think that if Sen. Obama were trying to get a security clearance to work at some level in the Federal Gov’t (forget for the moment that he is a Senator from
Illinois) today his resume would cause a lot of red flags: leftist mom, disappearing
dad who was from Kenya, a Muslim to boot, raised in Indonesia in a Muslim school,
serious drug use in high school, connections with Saudis to get into college,
a too cozy relationship with unrepentent domestic terrorists, hanging out in a
black-power church for twenty years with a pastor who says inflammatory things about
his country, connections with unsavory folks in Chicago including a convicted swindler……..I think OPM would have a nightmare trying to approve this person for
    a basic security clearance.

  9. 9. yehudit

rumor is that the owner of the tape is Abu Abunimah of electronicintifada.com. Another of Obamas friends who thinks he is secretly pro-Palestinian.

  10. 10. SeanLA

    you’re crazy!
    there is no blackmail factor

your first mistake is the assumption that there’s a dishonest person involved, everybody involved is for the cause. There will be no blackmail.

After the leader is elected all news will be good news and people like you will be run out of the country, or so humiliated that you will never dare transgress like you do or risk certain imprisonment for your scandalous innuendo.

  11. 11. cfbleachers

Claudia, you can’t blackmail a person to whom nothing sticks.

I would make the following prediction: Senator Obama could be found on the Rashid Khalidi tape espousing the most vitriolic diatribe against Israel and America, and it would not make one bit of difference to his base and constituents.

There is nothing on there that would make 95% of them change their minds. It would be an impossible task, if all that was found was evidence of an anti-America or anti-Israel diatribe.

Because we have to assume the entire reason it was held from public view, is precisely that. And, it still doesn’t make a dent or resonate with people who don’t care.

The tape contains something so offensive, so vile, so image destroying…that it can never see the light of day. Because if it was anything less than that, it would have absolutely no impact whatsoever. The entrenched media and Silencer Monopoly that is being employed to shut down an inquiry that might be damaging to Senator Obama…throws newspapers out of the campaign, shuts out tv stations that ask questions, locks down public libraries and universities…virtually anyone who asks a question is locked down, locked out, locked away.

We may not be electing a President, but coronating the Queen Mum.

  12. 12. Mike

I agree with PD. If Obama is elected, America is guilty. By allowing someone so comfortable with abortion to be a serious candidate, the country has shown that it has moved far away from its moral foundations. And if he is elected, America will be judged.

  13. 13. BazzNewzz

The LA Times seems to think it’s not in the public interest what went on at the Jew bashing party Barack Obama attended at his friend Rashid Khalidi’s house.
I was thinking…if the LA Times doesn’t want Americans to know, maybe Professor Khalidi will let us know.
He does not take calls from journalists…only private citizens…

This is definitely off topic, but: Claudia, how could you stand being in the same room as that disgusting Maurice Strong? His continuing existence is an offense to Canada and now, the World.

However, he will get along fine with President Obama.

  15. 15. heather

T Bird, regarding Israel: if Obama is elected, you can be sure that – Powell at his side – Obama will be immersed in meetings upon meetings to ‘strengthen’ the UN and all other transnational organizations.

As to Israel, it had better know that it must go it alone in this world. It should know that bombing Iran will be looked upon by an Obama administration as a far away event, definitely not the business of America.

  16. 16. Ellen Knight

I think if that tape were played now, most Americans would be supportive of the sentiment.

The use of blackmail to control our government is sickening. It has been done and perhaps still is. Will Obama be blackmailed? He might be already. There will surely be efforts to do so.

Those who blackmail and coerce want something in return. They are not our friends. We need to ask who is getting the most from the US and why is it that our elected officials are “blackmailable?”
