News Flash: Ground Zero Imam Heading to Saudi Arabia, UAE …
Next stops for Feisal Abdul Rauf, imam of the plan for a mosque and Islamic center near Ground Zero: Courtesy of the U.S. State Department, Rauf — a.k.a. Imam Feisal – is scheduled to spend the rest of the summer on a swing through the petro-dollar palaces of Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, and Qatar.
For more details, here’s the column in which yesterday evening I broke this bit of news (I have not found it reported anywhere else so far — which leaves me wondering why, amid the emoting and editorializing splashed all over the MSM by defenders and commenders of Rauf, no one seems to be asking where he’s actually disappeared to): “Further Travels of Imam Feisal.”
Rauf’s summer itinerary suggests odd priorities for a man who, in the name of harmony and bridge-building, has stirred up a furious debate in the U.S. — and then quietly left the country last month, leaving many questions unanswered about such matters as where and how he plans to raise the $100 million he’ll need to realize his dream of a high-rise Islamic hub right up the street from where the Twin Towers stood.
Neither Rauf nor the State Department seems eager to publicize his summer trip to Saudi Arabia and points nearby, though his tour appears imminent — as in, he’ll probably be touching down in the Middle East this coming week, and he’s not due back till early September. My source for this information is the New York office of his Cordoba Initiative foundation, and his wife and co-director at the Cordoba Initiative, Daisy Khan. But they didn’t exactly volunteer the information unbidden. Rauf himself came briefly to the phone last week, at his Cordoba Initiative office in Malaysia, when I tracked him down there on a hunch — after his New York office said he was traveling, not feeling well, and could not be reached. As soon as I asked about funding, he said he was in an “important meeting,” and got off the phone.
Since then, Rauf has been “unavailable” at his Cordoba Initiative office in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. When I phoned there and asked for him earlier this week, one of his assistants told me: “All media requests have to go through his office in New York.” At the New York office, I was told they were giving no more interviews, and for questions about the Malaysian office, I was referred back in a circle to the Cordoba Initiative in Malaysia. Finally, uninvited and with no appointment, I called the mobile phone of his wife and work partner, Daisy Khan. In answer to my specific questions, she said that Rauf was about to visit Saudi Arabia, etc., on a trip hosted by the State Department. In response to further questions, she allowed as how the State Department was sending her, as well, on a trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi later this month. She said there would be no fund-raising on these trips. But no one at the Cordoba Initiative seems ready to rule out the possibility of taking large sums of money from these places, should it at some point happen to be offered.
As for the State Department: After three days of my repeated questions and phone calls, State by Friday’s close of business had yet to provide any response to my request for confirmation of Rauf’s trip, Khan’s trip, or details about their State-sponsored summer outreach excursions to the Middle East. Apparently, it takes quite a while at State to get “clearance” for disclosure to the American public of such basic details as who, exactly, is engaging in public outreach at our expense and on our behalf.
Anyway, in the quest to discover Where in the World is Imam Feisal? — it looks like after his sojourn in Malaysia he’ll be turning up soon in Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Manama, and Riyadh. Whom he or his wife will meet with on their State-sponsored bridge-building tours, how their expenses will be handled, whether they will be paid any fees or honoraria, and what other arrangements have been made on their behalf are all matters that State apparently finds it a bridge too far to disclose. Why? New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg may find all this to be of absolutely no interest — see Bill Kristol’s terrific editorial, “Shut Up, He Explained.” But there are a lot of Americans, most of them not billionaires a-la-Bloomberg, who think that sometimes money, and its origins, does matter. When is Feisal Abdul Rauf planning to fill us in on the real sources of all funds flowing toward the coffers of his projects near Ground Zero?

Why in the world is he getting any of our tax payer dollars? Is obama in this decision about the mosque? Please continue with your excellent reporting.
In 2001, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani rejected a $10 million donation to a Sept. 11 charity by a Saudi prince who blamed the 911 terrorist attacks on U.S. policy in the Middle East. Upon taking office eight years later President Obama made copious amends for U.S. policy in the Middle East; it was all Bush’s fault. So in 2010 apparently the Clinton State Department is trawling for donations to build a special commemorative Mosque in New York to improve Middle East perceptions of U.S. Middle East policy? (the same Clinton renditions and more Bush targeted drone killings) So I presume after the dismal november elections over expensive Obamacare the President will blame expensive Obamacare on former President Bush? And in the future “going postal” and other domestic work place mass killings by Muslims of color will be more and more attributed to delayed racial stress syndrome? And black Harvard professors seem to be more susceptible to delayed racial stress syndrome when encountering the multiracial police investigating a possible burglery?
I would not be surprised to find that the ground zero mosque is a wholly dhimmified, utterly submissive, “peace offering” from the Obama administration to the entire islamic world. Ya have to admit, it’s certainly consistent with his past behavior.
Omar, you make an excellent and interesting point. It is not as if the White House isn’t capable of putting out all the stops ALL, threatening all those who oppose their marching orders-Chicago style.
I believe you may be onto something, quite possibly he was given a nudge in this direction when the Saudis came a calling a few weeks ago.After all, ‘Dawa’ is one of the highest pillars of Islam/submission. What better way to submit the masses to Islam than at Ground Zero?
Symbolism at its penultimate.
Here’s a different take on Imam Rauf’s visit to money land. Due to the pressure that is building against the ground zero mosque it is possible that the money men might tell Rauf to back off. These guys know a bad PR move when they see one.
Yeah. If I were a Muslim cleric determined to “build bridges” between Muslims and America… I’d head too for the two last countries to sever ties with the Taliban after 9/11. On a secret mission. Where bin Laden learned his Islam. Where 15 of the 19 hijackers came from. Where they still chop off heads and chop off hands. Where they crucify apostates.
Yep. That’s where I’d go.
Let’s try to connect dots:
Obama’s friends are up to their eyeballs in Flotilla action (purpose – not feeding ‘starving’ Gazans but opening up weapons supplies route to Hamas while attriting active Israeli defense):
Bill Ayers and Dohrn apparently in flotilla background; previous trip to Gaza where they caused some sort of incident on Egypt border;
Rauf and his Perdana group organizers and/or funders of the IHH flotilla from Turkey, according to Geller;
Some organization in Chi-town previously linked to Obie involved with the Qadhafi flotilla attempt;
and of course Obie’s former best friend Rashid Khalidi with his new ‘Audacity of Hope’ flotilla. Great name too.
And Obama just ‘had to’ provide hundreds of millions to ‘Gaza’ (Hamas, really) right after the Turkish Terror assault on the Israel Navy.
Is this an American Presidency that is surreptitiously (sort of) actively leading warfare against Israel. American Jews had best think long and hard about the Democratic Party and what it represents.
Larry, from my perch in the heart of the Islamic beast, if it looks like an (Islamic) duck…..
My absentee vote will be expressed, as will close to 100,000 US/Israeli citizens living in the eye of the storm.The Dems will be throttled….
The roots of the Ground Zero mosque were most obviously grown by George Bush himself, who was, it is transpiring, advised that Islam is a “religion of peace” hijacked by “extremists.” I tackled this non-judgmental, but nevertheless suicidal notion in “Cordoba House: A ‘Man-Caused’ Disaster.” It seconds everything said by Miss Rosett here. Read it here: http://ruleofreason.blogspot.com/2010/08/cordoba-house-man-caused-disaster.html
A few days ago, I received an e-mail from an activist member the Muslim Brotherhood who insists that Imam Faisal Rauf is a good man. What does that tell you?
You all are wrong. He is going to convince the Saudis to built a church in Mecca, to commemorate the victims of 9/11
What business does the State Department have with Rauf? Needs more investigation with demand for the paperwork. Suppose we zone out ground zero for a mosque and offer other choices? Will that suit Rauf? Probably a safe bet that it would not, in which case the mosque should not be built. Bloomberg says Islam should have a right to build a mosque and I would have to support that right but not their right to build where they want to build. Churches get zoning as well as business and that location is off limits.
Dont let him back in the USA.
Hey here’s a notion that will let us all engage in the same kind of “bridge building”: let’s drop a cruise missile or two on the Grand Mosque in Mecca, then we can build a beautiful new cathedral in its place!
My dear fellow citizens, what are we going to do if Rauf gets the funds to build his abomination from this gold digging courtesy tour? Obama and his ilk want to help make this a reality. One way or another, they will get the money to build it.
You know why it is being called the “Cordoba House” right? Cordoba was an Islamic Caliphate representing the heyday of Islamic conquest on the Iberian peninsula. Common sense dictates that this idea popped into Rauf’s mind in his exuberance to symbolize the beginning of Islamic conquest in the west while celebrating the mass murder of 3,478 people, not just American citizens, but also citizens from 53 other countries.
Here is what we have to look forward to with our elite ruling class now running the show:
Islam Explained in Layman’s Terms
The mosque is to be a victory monument for the first massive attack on the Kuffar America. The Brave 19 Mujahids brought down the Twin Towers and set back America – a kind of Iwo Jima for Muslims.
What I can’t figure out is why the State Department is financing their travels. Exactly why is that? BTW, that cruise missile should have the “Magic Black Rock” locked into it’s little brain. I think of it like the movie Failsafe. If the WTC was a mistake or on purpose, this will make up for it. No? Then we have nothing more to talk about.
The reason nobody else is reporting this scum is going to Saudi Arabia is they are all afraid of what the Muslims will do to them. Boy if they fear the Muslims now wait till they start taking over the country. Bye Bye all you same sex partners and just think you can beat your wife all you want and rape her anytime. That ought to make life interesting for half of our population, sad part is the women are the smart ones but nobody will ever know that again!
We are all familiar with the picture (and subsequently statues, etc.) of the US Marines raising a flag on Mount Suribachi and how that became an icon representing their march to victory on Iwo Jima and ultimately the defeat of Japan. I believe that if the Mosque/”multi-cultural center” is allowed to be “raised” near ground zero it will become their “Mount Suribachi” representing their “victory” on 9-11-01 and their march to the ultimate defeat of the “infidels.”
For reasons of brevity I’ll condense my thinking on the ground-zero mosque as I relayed it to a well known radio host last week. Based on this president’s behavior, it is worth considering that the funder of the mosque is the American people. Our government has taken on a posture antithetical to the interests of Israel, western culture, Christianity and the American people. This president reaches out in fellowship to the darkest elements even as he turns away from longstanding alliances, painfully forged. This president knows how to bundle funds to win elections. Is it off kilter to suggest that he would disburse funds so that their source seems to originate from benign representatives of the moderate muslim faction? Does anyone think that 100-500 million dollars will be soon missed in this fiscal mess? I’m nearly halfway there… Stay with it Claudia
All Americans should be grateful to Ms. Rosett for her hard work on this. It’s paying off, as this outrageous Obama Administration action is becoming exposed in broader media. It’s worthwhile to see how uncomfortable the State Department spokesman is when discussing this:
