Midnight Money for Durban III
At the United Nations, plans for Durban III roll on. In a vote just after midnight, the United Nations General Assembly said A-OK to spending money on this conference — yet another staging of the anti-American, anti-Semitic UN roadshow that opened in Durban, South Africa, in 2001, and was revived in Geneva, in April, 2009, as Durban II, or the Durban Review Conference (starring Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad — here’s Roger Simon’s post from Geneva at the time). The UN has scheduled round three, Durban III, to be held in New York, dovetailing with next year’s opening of the UN General Assembly. The UN’s chosen date is Sept. 21 — just 10 days after the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 jihadi attacks that brought down the Twin Towers, killed almost 3,000 people, and turned a once thriving part of lower Manhattan into a war zone of ash and rubble.
Not only will Americans have Durban III foisted upon them next September, in the heart of New York. As chief funders of the UN, they are now officially expected to foot the biggest share of the bill. How did that happen? Following a byzantine process in which one of the UN committees involved brazenly broke the UN’s own rules and neglected to include an estimate of costs while approving plans for this Durban III conference, the General Assembly’s budget committee then came up with estimated costs. As this headed for the General Assembly plenary, Anne Bayefsky, in an article last week, provided a deft outline of the UN intricacies involved, and accurately predicted how this would play out.
That brings us to this Thursday evening, with the clock ticking past midnight as the UN General Assembly raced to wrap up business before the Christmas holiday and end of the year. Having adjourned for most of the afternoon and evening (apparently to allow for the production of some enormous mass of documentation related to the proceedings), the General Assembly convened for one final run at a heap of business — with the final round of deliberations opening just before midnight. After a series of no-vote consensus approvals, gaveled through at speed, the delegates got to the question of funding for Durban III. More important than the amount (an estimated $322,500, of which $206,400 would effectively represent new money dolloped out from a UN “contingency fund”) was the chance to block this project by simply refusing the money.

Just another reason to get rid of the UN. It is an anachronism, a leftover from the Cold War, a Progressive wet dream come true. It was the pogressive’s tribute to Woodrow Wilson to prove that the League of Nations could actually work. Well, it didn’t. It was and always will be a failure. The only time it proved to be of any use was during the Korean War, when the Soviets stupidly allowed the other nations to send troops to Korea. After that, the Soviets never made that mistake again. Since then, the UN has been an overpriced, over paid, debating society that has given jobs to thousands of petty bureaucrats over the years. Time for the world to let it go, simply to drop it in the dustbin of history, like the Berlin Wall.
“The Zionist regime intends to boycott the United Nations international conference against racism, referred to as Durban III Conference.”

Damn them Zionists not taking it like a man.

Go get a beer and read comic books. Jews have and will “stand up and face it”, not TAKE IT!
It is a waste to deal with what kind you are!
Note to self: add </sarcasm for the slow ones.
So little time,so much baggage to defund. EPA,FCC,United Nations,DOE…I shouldn’t be hard to close much of the budget gap if the Republicans have the gonads to do it.
As a Canadian, I am proud that my government will have nothing to do with this UN-sponsored international hate-fest.
Thank You!
Me too.
I give great thanks to the Canadian government for its principled stand. But I am ashamed and embarrassed that *my* American government is enabling this rancid, dysfunctional hatefest. Not surprised, though – it is exactly what I would expect from this administration. The perfunctory vote in opposition to it was meaningless. It was cast cynically as a sop to American Jews but with the knowledge that it would not stop this disgrace.
If the NY State Democrats and GOP had not completely run off the rails they could step up to the plate. At one time the Democrats, please remember that Jeanne Kirkpatrick and Daniel Patrick Moynihan were Democrats, had backbone.
If the Governor and Mayor of New York wished to they could stop this. They could unambiguously make clear that they would refuse to cooperate at such a level that the federal government would have to flood the city with troops to enable the UN to function. They could have every automobile with DPL or FC plates towed away and keep the Department of State busy getting them released. They could dig up the streets and send in Health Inspectors. They could make ConEd turn off the electricity and order State Bank Examiners in to examine all their accounts. They won’t.
Bloomberg is the Mayor who worked behind the scenes to ram through the WTC mosque. Andrew Cuomo is tied to the NY Times and the corrupt Clinton Era real estate interests and shady money, with Chinese connections, that already weakened this country. We are like defenseless lambs now and the wolves are coming to town.
You are a saint to spend so much time documenting the word of these thugs and dupes.
The problem with bureaucracies is that no matter how badly they turn out, once they reach a certain size and corrupt usefulness they never go away.
To me, in a sane world the United States would have nothing further to do with the United Nations which is a corrupt black hole for money and politically correct hate.
In my world there would be no more NAACP, or that massively expensive failure, the Dept. of Education. There would be no more U.S. involvement in NATO or such a thing as a Congressional Black Caucus.
Perceptually and economically speaking, the American people are in a lot of trouble. They are having their treasure sucked dry by corrupt investment banks, traders on Wall St., corrupt and power mad unions, illegal immigrants, a hapless underclass, and war.
On the intellectual side we are caught up in a perceptual trap of political correctness that believes everyone in the world is exactly equal and vast sums of money will be spent and demographic disruption occur to prove this point. Even a reasonable country like Canada has Orwellian and odious hate speech laws which I would have normally in the past seen relegated to an Ace Science Fiction Double paperback about dystopian morons.
We in the West have lived in an increasingly bad science fiction novel since the early 1970s inhabited with David Bowies’s to Lady Gaga’s, no-go neighborhoods complete with flat shanty towns, unexceptionalist Third World populations moving here wholesale, marriage without real couples complete with Ru Paul on what amounts to children’s television and a large segment of the population that is completely delusional about the history of America as well as its future. Can’t wait for the sequel.
Bring it. Another act of Obamanism, another weapon in the Republican arsenal, another demonstration to Americans just what Obama and his cronies think of us.
And by the way, which 2012 Presidential contender do you think has the guts to walk away from the UN? RomneyGingrichHuckaPawlenty? or Palin?
“Bring it”
As outrageous as this is, there could be a silver lining. Probably few Americans other than strong supporters of Israel paid much attention to the first 2 “Durban” fiascoes. But now it’s going to be right here, right in the middle of NYC, right after the 10th “anniversary” of the murderous 9/11 terrorist attacks. Americans are going to have BO’s craven, simpering, kowtowing, apologetic foreign policy shoved right in their faces like dogs being potty-trained, along with a healthy side dish of unhinged antisemitism.
I don’t think we’re going to like it one bit.
This could make the GZM controversy look like nothing. If it teaches the country about the dangers of our current foreign policy it will have served a purpose.
If only!
The sad fact is that the MSM will shield the people from any unpleasantness….unless, of course, they can cast protestors against Durban III as unpleasant “extremists” or “bigots.”
“Probably few Americans other than strong supporters of Israel paid much attention to the first 2 “Durban” fiascoes.” An acquaintance of mine was at Durban, representing one of the Jewish NGOs present. Even weeks after the event she was still shaken by the experience. She’d never seen such an open display of hatred toward Jews and Israel in her life. And they want to bring it New York while Americans foot part of the bill! No doubt Ahmedinijad will once again be a guest of honor, carrying a visa approved by our own feckless Secretary of State.
One sees the hope once engendered toward the UN in the sci-fi movies of the 1950s wherein, faced with interplanetary attacks, the nations of the world would set aside differences, getting together to fight the common threat. How quaint. But some knew better, as the pettiness and national chauvinism was already portrayed in the classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still”. It’s only gotten worse since as authoritarian nations have joined with the (also authoritarian) Islamic bloc to betray the naive hopes of its founders.
The time came when the League of Nations was recognized as a failure. We should similarly recognize that the UN has failed, and now does more harm than good.
WE SHOULD BE BOYCOTTING! THE U.N. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THIS COUNTRY, ESPECIALLY TO SPEW THEIR ISLAMIC HATRED SO SOON AFTER THE 10TH 9/11 ANNIVERSARY. WHAT THE ARABS HAVEN’T ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH WAR AND TERRORISM AGAINST ISRAEL, THEY HOPE TO DO THROUGH DELIGITIMATIZATION. AMAZING THAT THE WESTERN WORLD GIVES THE BIGGEST ABUSERS OF HUMAN RIGHTS SUCH A PLATFORM. WE WILL DO OURSELVES IN (JUST LIKE BEAUTIFUL SWEDEN HAS BEEN DESTROYED) BY BEING GUTLESS APPEASERS!
The National Institutes of Health funds research to make our lives better. The United Nations makes our lives worse. Currently, the NIH is underfunded. I ask all of you to contact your representatives and senators to transfer our funding of the UN to NIH. Let the iranians fund Durban III,IV,V,VI,..etc
As a Canadian I would like to suggest that Jewish New Yorkers, and I hope many others, start referring to Durban III as
Wannsee IV. It would be a nice thing to see on protest signs next fall.
Re Douglas Gordon’s comment suggesting Jewish New Yorkers start referring to Durban III as Wannsee, first it and trivializes what German government policy and actions were and secondly what does that have to do with “New York” and “Jews” in New York? The inference per religion and place and as someone who calls himself a “Canadian” all sounds quite weird and racist to me.
