It’s Big, It’s Ugly, It’s Expensive…
And it’s racist: The UN’s racist conference on racism, officially known as the Durban Review Conference. More in my column this week for Forbes.com , though it is impossible to describe within the length of any one column the astounding variations on perversity, duplicity, hypocrisy and abuse of the UN’s charter ideals — all embodied in this multi-million-dollar conference scheduled for April, 2009 in Geneva.
With the 20-member preparatory committee chaired by Libya, and including such vice-chairs as Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Cuba and Cameroon, it’s been clear for some time that’s there a problem with this gathering. Which is not in fact just one big meeting, but has already entailed over the past 16 months a series of meetings, in Switzerland, Ghana and Brazil — all to be consummated with a grand pow-wow in Geneva, under that $23 million ceiling that now decorates the chamber in which the erstwhile UN Human Rights Council carries out its regularly scheduled and almost single-minded attacks on the democratic state of Israel, and assorted other democracies, such as the U.S.
You’d think there would be some way to stop this, but it just keeps rolling along, and getting bigger. I’m wondering if instead of trying another round of UN “reforms,” we should just take away the UN portfolio from the State Department, and give it to GM and Chrysler. With a little luck, the UN would be out of business in no time.

You’ve heard people say “do not listen to what Israelis or Palestinians say in English. Listen to what they say in Hebrew and Arabic.
I wonder if the same rule applies here.

I got a personal taste of the ugliness that’s in store for the Geneva conference in Helsinki Finland, during a seminar sponsored by the Finnish UPI.
The head of the world’s largest Islamic organization, (the OIC) Ekemleddin Ihsanoglu stated that “no Muslim good or bad could be antisemitic”.
I confronted Ihsanoglu about the upcoming conference in Geneva, and asked him whether he would publicaly state his own personal assurances that the upcoming conference would not be used to trash and bash Israel like in Durban I.

He replied: “Now coming to the Durban Conference, We have to, for those who follow these issues. The Human Rights Council in Geneva has been issuing resolutions related to the defamation of religions and the protection against hatred. This is the Human Rights Council, and the Human Rights Council mandated to discuss this, and there are certain rapporteurs appointed by the High Commission. They do the report and according to this report they accept or refuse this resolution. This is the framework, legal framework.
When it comes to OIC’s position, I have to tell you our group there is very active, and we’re proud of it. But we being active there, we say, to European countries who are members of this, eh, and other Western countries of this commission, the Council, the Human Rights Council, “Please, lets work together…please lets work together”.
We are not anti-Christian, we are not anti-Semitic, we are not anti-anybody. but we are anti-insult, we are anti-defamation, we are anti-abusing the freedom. The freedom sir, does not mean insulting, this is not acceptable, this is incitement to hatred on a religious basis, on a racial basis is prohibited by international convention.”
In other words (I have it all on tape in his own words so there is no denying what he said) the OIC won’t condemn any bigoted, racist statements and initiatives directed at the Jewish state in upcoming conference in Geneva, because Islamic antisemtism does not exist.
Remember, this takes the “no Arab can be antisemitic” canard one step further, because now it includes the whole Islamic Ummah, Semitic Muslims and non-Semitic Muslims, both good Muslims and bad Muslims, even Osama Bin-Laden. KGS
