Iran and the Wailing of the Copenhagen Choir
From the shores of what was once capitalist America, I’ve been trying to follow on webcast the highlights of of the United Nations climate con — I mean conference — in Copenhagen, featuring eco-messages from some of the world’s top celebrity tyrants. As Roger Simon so neatly put it in a post and PJTV webcast from the scene, “So many despots, so little time!”
Thursday alone, the UNFCCC “high-level” speaking lineup included officials of Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Cuba, Laos, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Belarus and the man himself, fixture of any major UN shindig, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran.
But where are the UN’s promised archived webcasts of the Thursday high-level lineup, despots and all? The UNFCCC says on its web site that all live webcasts will be saved and posted at the close of each meeting. Scores of press conferences turn up promptly. Trolling the site, I came across a whole raft of Thursday events readily available as “on-demand” webcast. Among them were a Bangladesh climate report; Britain’s Gordon Brown presenting an eco award to the president of Mexico; and a press conference starring Nancy Pelosi, dewy with lip gloss and bundled up in a tangerine outfit, with Charlie Rangel and a string of other U.S. lawmakers in tow.
But if Ahmadinejad & comrades are available to be viewed right now “on-demand,” I have yet to find the links on the UNFCCC site. That could be my clumsiness with the internet, or perhaps a delay while they hunt down excess hot-air offsets in Copenhagen. But in my experience, when it’s hard or impossible to find something this germane on a UN web site, it’s usually because the UN doesn’t want you to. Is it possible that while waiting for President Obama to descend Friday in a cloud of American money, the UN organizers would like to minimize the embarrassments just showcased on their own stage? — and one way to do that is to delay posting a simple and obvious link that would let the likes of bloggers play, post and replay Ahmadinejad & Co.
What I did come across was the UN’s Valkyrie choir.
That’s not the official name. I have no idea who these wailing women are. But every time you boot up a webcast segment from the Copenhagen conference web site, you have to sit through a thematic prelude in which a mass of threads fill the screen and then coalesce into what looks like a ball of gray wool — though I assume it is supposed to be Planet Earth. This is accompanied by twangly new-age noises, sort of like the underground moving walkway at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. And then, as lettering appears to spell out ”COP 15 COPENHAGEN,” these thin, female voices kick in, rising in a sort of ghostly soprano wail.
By about the 50th rendition, I began to wonder — Who are these people? Are they the shield-maidens of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change? The sirens of the Kyoto Protocol? The COP 15 Family Singers? How much did the UN spend on this musical embellishment to its selectively posted climate webcast archives? I heard a similar chorus years ago, on a North Korean passenger plane, plying the airways between Beijing and Pyongyang. That was an ode to the glories of Kim Il Sung. Maybe the UN bought the rights?
Here’s a sample, if you want to check it out. (Just for fun, I’ve picked the clip of U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown giving an environmental award to President Felipe Calderon of Mexico — another classic moment in the rich history of high-level climate back-scratching).

Crocks: Obama, Schumer, Gore
The crockiest stories on the wire lately involve our crisis-crazed president, New York’s rude Senator Chuckie Schumer, and former VP/current climate hack, Al Gore.
Critical Barry: Barack Obama recently graded his first year in office with a B+, a generous grade indeed considering he has accomplished virtually nothing over the course of that year, except in the eyes of the politically-motivated Nobel Peace Prize Committee.
Now, with both his chief international and domestic initiatives on the verge of tanking, the man is getting desparate.
As the president takes flight to visit the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the talks are in a state of chaos, http://bit.ly/5nRgDe, with Copenhagen engulfed in the Climategate Affair, in a blizzard during global warming, and with police battling Communist agitators.
Obama’s planned “signature” accomplishment, Obamacare, is in Senate Limbo and Majority Leader Reid is expecting his lackeys to vote on a “reckless . . . irresponsible” 2,074 page bill they haven’t even seen: http://bit.ly/8S6sHM.
Obama has apparently written off climate change agreement and stoked up his famed Crisis Machine to push through health care reform.
The president seems to have a special affinity for crises. Hence we had the bank crisis, the auto crisis, the economic crisis, the climate crisis and, of course, the ongoing health crisis.
Obama’s cure for the health crisis has now become the be-all-and-end-all for the United States of America, without which the nation will go belly up.
With a straight face, ”President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government ‘will go bankrupt.’ ”
No mention was made of plagues of locusts and pestilence and no explanation was offered as to how failure to pass a $2.5 trillion measure will bankrupt us but passing it will make us solvent.
Go figure.
Mind you, that passage, which absolutely must be rushed through before Christmas, is totally unrelated to the fact Congresspeople would once again have to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged constituents over the Christmas break and maybe return without the same resolve to do the president’s bidding.
It’s also totally unrelated to Obama’s crying need to have something, anything, to show for 2009 when he delivers the 2010 State of the Union Address in January or else see 2009 cast upon the dungheap of abyssmal failure.
Chuckie’s Revenge: No stranger to crocks, New York’s senior United States Senator Charles Ellis “Chuckie” Schumer, Prince of Pork, Defender of Bill Clinton and Women, Supporter of Same Sex Marriage, Anti-bank Regulator, and Precipitator of the IndyMac Bank Debacle, also has a nasty mouth.
We have all said things and used cuss words we regret but most politicians have more class–or should have more class–than to publically revile a woman with the B-word, that word rhyming with itch.
Chuckie, however, . . .

Not a single one of these psychopaths will mention the real climate change issue and just in case you had not noticed this, HERE IS THE REAL CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUE:

Can you imagine Bush, Palin, Cheney in Copenhagen? Hilarious!
Talk about psychopaths . . .
The Adoration of the Despots at UN climate smugfests is nothing new. As related by P.J. O’Rourke in “All the Trouble in the World”, one of the first ones in the late 1980s, in Rio de Janeiro’, featured a keynote address by none other than Fidel Castro. Who was saying the same thing that Chavez’, Mugabe’, etc. were in Copenhagen; individual liberty is destroying the planet, give us absolute power and all your money right now, peasants.
And don’t forget to bow as we pass by, if you want to keep your head.
That conference also had protesters outside, doing what they are doing in Copenhagen; setting fires, breaking windows, and demanding an End to Western Civilization Right Now. To be followed by everyone joining hands, singing the Internationale’, and submitting to “global governance”- by the people doing the window-breaking, who made no secret of how much they wanted to toast marshmallows on the funeral pyre of our civilization.
Dictators demanding absolute power, backed up by fanatics demanding absolute destruction. This has been the overarching theme of the Left throughout its existence, and the “ecology” movement since its inception in the 1970s.
If it wasn’t for the fact that letting them win would condemn 90% of humanity to death (through famine, starvation, and cold), and the rest to enslavement in a new and endless Dark Age (or perhaps New Old Stone Age), it would be interesting to see what happened if these fanatics actually succeeded in seizing the power they lust after.
Because it would be interesting to see how short a time it would take for the “enlightened ones” to turn on each other, and destroy themselves.
The problem is, they would take the rest of us with them- thereby finally achieving all of their dreams in one package.
Not that any of us would be around to complain.

ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL THAT ATTENDS THIS COPENHAGEN CONFERENCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING IT SHOULD BE TRIED AND HUNG FOR TREASON.
That will be the day when I listen to dirtbags from dirtholes like Cuba, Sudan, Laos, and Burma (yes, note I called it BURMA, not that stupid new name, Myanmar, that nobody ever heard of)! It just shows that global organizations like the UN and this “global warming conference” are nothing but megaphones for every petty dictator, communist, or Muslim fanatic in the world. One major reason to hate our current president is that he buys into all of this crap, as if the UN and its spinoff organizations have actually solved anything over the past 40 years. He should be ashamed of himself, lowering the office of the president by attending what is basically a meeting of blackmailers in Denmark. Every petty thug, dictator, or tyrant is demanding, yes demanding, that larger countries pay them so that they can pad their own Swiss bank accounts. You don’t actually think they’re going to use the money to help their own people, do you? We should just ignore, yes ignore, these leftist and communist malcontents and just go about OUR business of improving OUR economy. Trust me, this is what China and India are doing. “Global Warming” is just the new form of communism, a ploy to redistribute wealth. Hugo Chavez pretty much said it during his speech. Shame on anybody in this country agreeing with these jerks in Denmark, including our own president.
When I heard the loud applause that greeted Hugo Chavez in Copenhagen, I knew this movement was well and truly dead.
From this day forward, no one who believes in man-made global warming or climate change can possibly be taken seriously.
For reasons beyond understanding, the Left, and particularly the American Left, has always yearned for the cold, whiplike sting of totalitarian governance. A couple of months ago, NYT “ace columnist” Thomas Friedman wrote a flattering piece about China and how preferable their one-party dictatorship was to democracy “as long as the dictators are reasonably intelligent people.” That was a huge admission. Ever since the fall of the Berline Wall the Left has adopted the position that its views on economics, finance, education, the environment, diplomacy etc. are so unassailably right that their opponenets are not simply wrong but sub-human. This has been reinforced by the fact that most of these people live in the hermetically sealed worlds of academia, the media and celebrity culture where they rarely (if ever) meet anyone of opposing views. The great selling point for global warming isn’t that it is or isn’t taking place – Rather it’s the perfect pretext for enshrining this elite in power. In effect the Copenhagen message is “DO WHAT WE SAY OR YOU’LL DIE!” Maybe, just maybe, this attitude of doom-mongering sanctimony is now so blatant that even the most apolitical of persons are starting to catch on.
Yo, Libertyship!
Pretty heroic and iconoclastic of you refusing to bow before the evil SLORC regime or whatever they call themselves these days. But you might be advised that “Myanmar” is how you say “Burma” in Burmese, and that was how you said it for a millenium before the Brits arrived in the 1820s and started calling it something different.
Kinda like how the Germans, when speaking amongst themselves, the Austrians and some of the Swiss, call their country “Deutschland”l. But they’re nice enough to let the French continue using “Allemagne”, and so on. While the Indians tolerate “India”, more or less (instead of “Bharat”, which is what they call it in Hindi), they do now make us all say “Chennai”, “Kolkata”, “Mumbai” for what the Brits had also renamed Madras, Calcutta (pretty close on that one, at least), and Bombay.
Hang in there, dude, you’re an inspiration!
Under what circumstances can a global agreement on anything, be it anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden, anti-video-piracy accords for the entertainment industry, or climate change conferences, exist without the co-operation of dictatorial foriegn governments? The Chinese government, which is a one-party state, has sent warships to fight piracy in the Gulf of Aden, is the only government available to fight video piracy in China, and has a lot of industry that produce carbon. The U.S. government, which is a two party democracy has sent warships to fight piracy in the Gulf of Aden, is the only government available to fight video piracy in the U.S., and has a lot of industry that produce carbon.
Even assuming climate change is a hoax, conferences about it are based on the premise of including governments that are available at the time. Same as anti-piracy, and anti-video piracy.

He’s a winner! Why they give them a microphone and stage is beyond me.
6. eon:
Excellent recall, though the Rio conference was in 1992. (remember, Al Gore was prominently showcased there as well- or more accurately, wonderfully skewered by P.J.) Isn’t funny how this same carnival show is being repeated note-for-note today?
Cheering Chavez-Hey isnt his primary export OIL?????? POLLUTING, DIRTY, HIGH CARBON OIL? Seems the only reason they were cheering CHAVEZ is because like them hes a COMMIE PUKE. He deserves only a bullet between the ears.
Talk about idiots in a chat room-vivo vivo vivo vivo vivo vivo……….. Having a lifetime subscription to being stuck on stupid is giving vivo too much credit. The most dangerous place on the planet is being between vivo and a brain.
Vivo: Your point is what??
Bush and Palin wouldn’t have attended Copenhagen, because they know it is all a fraud. But Hugo Chevez (your hero) can’t wait to get his $billions from the UN. He also smells sulpher coming from your buddy Obama.

Vivo is a rather inept troll, don’t worry about him or engage him. He doesn’t actually believe in the moral equivalence of Mugabe, Ahmadinijad and Chavez with Bush, Palin and Cheney, he’s inadequate, not stupid, but a satisfying part of his unquestionably lonely life is hanging around here and getting a reaction. Ignore him, you’ll actually be helping him emotionally.

Talk about psychopaths . . .
17. TriGeek:
“Bush and Palin wouldn’t have attended Copenhagen, because they know it is all a fraud.”
You must live in a place where the FUMES change your chemistry, and that’s fraud?
19. I blame Bush:
Ignoring me talks louder than writing blabber.

Drat. You’re right. That’s what I get for trying to remember dates of utterly irrelevant granfalloons (as per Vonnegut) off the top of my head.
Thanks for the correction.
cheers

Oh come on Ms. Rossett… you don’t know who these singers are? Well, perhaps my opinion will enlighten you?
This chorus represents the new UN global government religion. This song will replace Amazing Grace, of the Ave Maria!
After all, all “really good” ‘religions,’ need heart rending music, right?
Efforts by UN socialists, that includes many UN member nations, are perhaps the precursor to how the Obama administration wants to handle how information is revealed or controlled here in America. Lets face it, our new FCC Czar will need a theme song to support his ‘localization’ efforts to limit &/or control any messages the American public may be permitted to hear!
