Enough Already – Just Move the UN to Iran
Last week, when Iran withdrew its candidacy for a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council, I got messages from a number of folks who were almost sorry to see Iran drop out of the race. That’s not because they like Iran’s regime. It’s because seating Iran on the rotten Human Rights Council would have been an act so grotesque that anyone could grasp the problems with the Council – much as Libya chairing the old Human Rights Commission in 2003 served to discredit that rotten body once and for all.
Well, for all those who were disappointed that Iran’s regime will not become the convenient poster-child for the UN’s travesty of a Human Rights Council, there’s a carnival of cold comfort ahead.
The UN’s Economic and Social Council has just elected Iran to a seat on the UN’s women’s rights commission — formally known as the Commission on the Status of Women. This outfit describes itself on its web site as the UN’s “principal global policy making body” for “gender equality and advancement of women.”
As Hot Air notes: “I think Neda would have wanted it this way, don’t you?”
But wait! There’s more. Fox News reporter Joseph Abrams unearthed the bombshell about Iran taking a seat on the women’s rights commission, no thanks to any of the UN’s well-heeled press offices. The UN had quietly buried the announcement in a lengthy press release, under the riveting headline: “In resumed organizational session, Economic and Social Council solidifies plans for forthcoming substantive session, fills vacancies in subsidiary bodies.” (I hope Fox is giving Joe combat pay for reading this stuff). Joe’s article is here, with details about the apparent failure of the U.S. Mission to even challenge Iran’s bid by calling for a vote. Iran was “elected” by “acclamation.”
And, yes! There’s yet more. Entombed about 6,000 syllables deep under the headline of that same press release (pour yourself a stiff drink — here it is) is the information that Iran has also just obtained three other seats.
Iran is one of 16 new members just elected to four-year-terms on the UN’s Commission on Science and Technology for Development. (Maybe they can provide handy tips on capacity-building for nuclear bomb technology in UN-sanctioned developing economies).
Iran is also one of 15 countries just elected to the governing council of the UN settlements agency, or UN-Habitat (another of those countries just elected is Venezuela, ruled by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s close chum, Hugo Chavez … is this part of the project Ahmadinejad and Chavez jointly announced last year to build a “nuclear village?”).
And, for the UN’s Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, four members were just seated by acclamation — one of them being a candidate from Iran.
Oh, and by the way, Iran also sits on the governing council of the UN Environment Program, and the executive boards of UNICEF, the UN Development Program (last year it chaired the UNDP board), UNICEF and the World Food Program (which has also just elected Cuba and Sudan to three year seats on its board).
On top of all this, it looks like Ahmadinejad may soon be making yet another of his many trips to NY, to dominate the UN’s Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference, which opens at UN Headquarters in Manhattan next week.
Not for the first time, the thought occurs that it would be a lot easier to just ship the entire UN — lock, stock and seating arrangements — to Iran. Why should Americans bankroll, dignify and host these abominations?

“U.S. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick’s deputy, Chuck Lichenstein, told unhappy member states that if they wished to leave America’s shores, “the members of the U.S. mission to the United Nations will be down at the dockside waving you a fond farewell as you sail into the sunset.”
These were the Good Old days
America no longer has that kind of moxie.
America no longer has leaders that will stand up for what is right in this world and fight against the inhumanities
One of the many problems with the U.N. is that it is composed of the ruling classes of its member nations, on a one-country, one-vote basis.
Take a look at the globe, and visualize the many countries whose governments are truly and profoundly sickening. Well over two-thirds of the nations of the world would be better off if they completely rid themselves of their current governments, despite the anarchy that would prevail for a time.
The corruption, the blind short- sighted foolishness, the jaw-dropping stupidity, the continuous and profound dishonesty, and the mean, self-serving sloth that is the norm at the U.N., is merely life-as-usual in the majority of the nations of the world.
Please, the UN is a joke, it’s activites are so insane, surreal, hypocritical, mendacious, corrupt, in a normal world it would go the way of the equally unsuccessful League of Nations, why the U.S. or any other Western democracy dumps money into that toilet, that sewer, is beyond me.
And beyond that of a majority of Americans, too, I would wager. But in a “Dhimocracy” like ours that’s not important.
“Why should Americans bankroll, dignify and host these abominations?”
The American elite has supported this institution since its creation. The flaws you mention are neither new nor excessive. These aren’t flaws–this is by design because it fulfills the purpose of the organization. How can the American elite stop funding it, when, by their judgment the UN is successful?
Since the United Nations is located in New York City, do you think the Iranians will sponsor a float in New York City’s Gay Pride Day celebration? I’m sure the United Nations, too, will soon hold a commission on global gay rights, especially for women. I’m also sure all of the Muslim countries will want a seat on that commission too. Hmmm, you think this idea will fly at the UN? I’m betting the Iranians would love it. It will also be easy to spot them on the commission. They will be the ones holding the rope.
I have asked myself the same question for quite a long time. Why should we fund something that is clearly not in our own interests and represents a farce of cosmic proportions? Underlying the UN is the same problem that all massive bureaucracies face; the main purpose of the UN is to argue for a more UN, not for a more humane planet. Its sole existence is designed to promote its own existence. And of course, to prop up the world’s most lacklustre countries by providing them with this kind of undeserved recognition. Is there no one there who questions the continued legitimacy of the UN? The quicker we stop playing tea-party with this irredeemable catastrophe of a supranational mafia, the better.
Really, what is there to say? The Useless Nations is the most worthless corrupt organization in history. This is what we are apart of, and this is who obama, carter, and the progressives want to rule over America. We really need to quit beating around the bush. We need to get ourselves out of the UN and away from this NWO that is being built. I know it seems all “conspiracy theory” to say such things, but that is exactly what is happeneing
How can you expect any sanity out of the UN when the UN is run by the Islamic nations? You can’t expect sanity or human rights from places that have Sharia Law and misogyny. I agree, the US needs to either pull out of the UN or start acting like civilized people and stand up for REAL human rights. It’s like this rot of sending our troops to Afghanistan to defend people who are cutting up little girls genitals and sodomizing little boys and anyone else they can get ahold of. That’s just for starters. What is with being in a country where girls are still being injured or killed for trying to get an education? Where is the morality to this? I thought when you send troops to a country, part of the idea is defending sensible morality like a basic education and getting it across to people about abusing women and children. It’s not a culture thing because the same crap is going on in the US now big time, even where I live in podunk. There is little or no respect for life it seems and the kind of mentality that comes from Islam is infecting regular life in the US. That’s what I’m seeing and hearing in anyone’s news. It really sickens me that our country appears to have lost its moral compass and the UN is a fraud.
Just do it.
Just do it, already. What are we waiting for?
Agreed!!! but no one listens to American citizens..
After all we only provide a meeting place and million$$$ each year to fund their stupidity. We should move the UN to Iran and keep our money for better things.
I’ve always thought Paris would be the perfect place for the UN.
Haiti would be the perfect place to move it to.
Construct a “twin towers” look, and leave for good.
It is long past time the the US stop paying such a large percentage of the UN’s bills. The organization is a big toilet in to which the world dumps money with no real results. I think the world does need a forum to discuss issues and problems but not this bloated, cancerous tumor in New York. Switzerland is a better venue.
I wish there were one leader in this country with the guts to speak the raw truth about this corrupt and evil waste of time and money. Its laundry is so filthy and flea-infested that any corporation that were run in a similar way would be both bankrupt and with all its management serving life imprisonment. If it were a country, it would be at the top of the list for state-run terrorism, right next to Iran and Syria, who it adores. The UN hasn’t done one decent thing in its entire rotten existence. We don’t need the UN to distribute anything to poor countries. We can do that ourselves. Everything the UN touches turns to crap, because it is crap. The U.S. out of the UN, and the UN out of the U.S.! Look at all the money America would save by ridding itself of that loathsome ball and chain.
I have yet to meet anyone, followed by an intelligent discussion on this topic, who could agree with your headline more. I hear that Tehran has an airport, roads, hotels, everything required to make UN meetings fun as well as ever so productive in advancing peace, nutrition, and the advancement of all human endeavor.
Or maybe France.
Trouble is, when most people think of the U.N. they see fuzzy bunnies and pretty daisies. The lame lead the blind.
The USA is absolutely committed to keep the ayatollahs (dictators parading as religious fanatics) in power no matter what.
The primary goal of all USA foreign policy for the last 30 years has been to keep the Ayatollahs (dictators parading as religious fanatics) in power.
Iran has been directly killing Americans since they took our Embassy in 1979; Iran/Hizbully blew up our base in Lebanon in 1982…Iran does the killing/IEDs/car bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan that has killed most of our soldiers. Did the news networks forget to tell you? CNN=terrorist ministry of propaganda.
This “nice long lasting war and sell lots of weapons” (C 1991 Getty on this war) took years to set up and implement.
To bring back an old 60′s saying.
Get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US.
Without the UN how will the Antichrist usher in the One-World Government? I’m quite certain he and Satan can figure out a way without the American taxpayers’ help. Kick the UN out of NYC! Today!
All you UN haters are forgetting the wonderful success the UN has had in keeping the peace. Check this link for some of the historic achievements of UN peacekeepers.

Why can’t Mike Bloomberg just declare Eminent Domain on Turtle Bay and kick the Useless Nitwits out?
That way, he can claim a reduction in carbon footprint, reduction in hot air and free his subjects, er, ‘citizens’ of the parking problems.
The “dreams” of the marxists ended in turture chambers and re-education death camps.
The “dreams” of the third-world-”ism” end in the torture chambers, and in the assassination and rape of women.
The horror is praised and supported by the internationalists.
And all this is the great PROGRESS that the nihilists have brought to the world.
Congrats.
For those who want to see, in “Paris 1919″ by Margaret MacMillan, we see the author’s Great grandfather approached by the Canadian
Prime Minister at the time for an alternative, just in case the League of nations did not work out.
It is high time to implement that alternative.
A friend of mine once shrewdly observed, “I like having the United Nations in New York. It means we can keep an eye on them.” Sadly that was about twenty years ago and the UN has metatisized from being merely an annoying hot-air gab-fest conducted by collections of trans-oceanic dipomatic twits to something more akin to a mobbed-up New Jersey waste-disposal company. It is corrupt beyond belief and merely a sounding-board for thuggish kleptocracies to scream “We Want” at western nations. It’s organizaitonal structure is a bureaucratic nightware that does nothing more than provide jobs for the unemployable offspring of whatever elite happens to be in power at home at that particular moment.
The worst aspect of the UN is its preening, ineffectual sactimony about virtually everything (and particularly about its host country) and the way our own senile media continues to reverently treat it as some sort of legitimate body of quasi-governance. The whole lot of them should be forced to live and meet in some place like Darfur or Beirut where they will be up-close-and-personal with the problems they are always gassing on about and won’t have the luxuries of five-star hotels, gourmet restaurants, limo service and top-flight call girls; all of which are paid for on their respective nation’s dime.
I have suggested this before, and I’m doing it again. I think the UN should be placed in a location where it cannot be said that there is any favoritism toward any nation. The only logical choice is Antarctica.
And to make sure the delegates are comfortable we’ll set up solar panels and wind generators to provide for their electricity.
Its the green thing to do.
The UN definitely needs to move. With all of that concrete where can they dig stoning pits?
The very same country where a cleric utters the words “promiscuous women cause earthquakes” gets a chair on the UN’s Womens Rights commission?
Why not? After all this is the same organization that gave Libya the Chair of the Human Rights Commission in 2003.
Whats the problem?
Whats the surprise?
I’m on board too. To Hell with it. We are being fleeced from all sides it seems. To Hell with it.
I heard a valid point in passing last week.
That the current US administration places more value on the kinds of concoctions dreamed up at/with “The UN” than it does on normal constitutional process specific to the United States.
Translated: Barack Obama, his surrogates, czars, & sundry hangers on as well as individuals like UN ambassador Susan Rice (who has been uncharacteristically quiet in recent months) are most comfortable with the whole transnationalist, Israel bashing, distort global warming process that literally is the United Nations these days.
The United States still funds about 1/4 of the total budget.
Taking our money while subverting us on our shores, what could be more perfect ?
The only international organisations that I can get behind are Doctors Without Borders and NATO. The UN has become a stage for uncivilised states to put on a show of manners and legitimacy.
Typical right wing jingoistic bigotry and small mindedness at it’s best. I guess Claudia has to prove her street creds with the morons here with her mindless Hate UN rant, the fave of bigots, isolationists and paranoid schizoids for the last 60 years.
It is time that we assist, in every way possible, the development a dynamic culture and economy in Africa! There are really three things, IMHO, that have defined our ability to succeed beyond ALL in this great country of the United States. 1) Article 1, section 2 of the Constitution whereby we can delete (vote out!) the tax man every two years, 2) First Amendment, and 3) Second Amendment. The first African country to enshrine these in their Constitution and enforce them is the winner of the new UN headquarters. All the embassies, travel by delegates, interesting restaurants…all of it would benefit that honored winner.
In Hebrew, United Nations is “umot ha’meuchadot” and abbreviated “Oom”. Decades ago, Israelis began to refer to it derisively as “Oom Shmoom”, unworthy of respect. They were right then, it’s if anything more true today. The institution is beyond parody; it is a certifiable disgrace.
Now, as the UN is spending a few billion to refurbish the New York headquarters is the time to salvage a few worthwhile agencies, then shut the place down. Turn the property into a housing and convention center. City housing prices would come down making it more affordable for people to live and work there.
We can then think about forming an association of democratic nations.
