Kofi Gets a Letter

September 15, 2006 - 10:51 am - by Claudia Rosett

Noting that the United Nations is exempt from its own Convention on Corruption, Senator Tom Coburn writes to Kofi Annan today, urging Annan to “release your personal financial disclosure forms that you now require of your subordinates.”

Having bragged up his own conception of a new UN “Ethics Office,” now fielding financial disclosure forms required of senior UN staff (see second paragraph of this Jan. 17, 2006 UN press release) Annan has for months been dodging questions about whether he has filed one of his own.

(See posts below). Now we wait for Kofi’s answer…

Wonderful to think of the U.S. Senate FINALLY demanding some concrete information in return for the obscene amount of money we give the UN. If I could ask only one question of Anan, this would be it. Especially considering the insight a truthful disclosure might bring to the whole “Oil for SlushMoney” imbroglio.

It remains only to decide the one best question for other swag-sodden so-called servants of the public. I’m taking suggestions over at my blog.

So, the pope says that the Byzantine pope said ‘Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached”.
Seems to me that the majority of the muslim world are seeking to prove the words of the Byzantine pope to be correct.
    You got to wonder!
