Quite a week! It’s been like a flashback to the Inferno, and Ms. Rosett has been our Dante. What she has just described would correlate quite well to the former lives of the denizens of the Eighth Circle, Malebolge (evil pockets), reserved for those who purposefully commit evil. In fact, the events and personages of the last few years could serve as an instant replay of some of those Circle Eight lives. Our current events fit right in with an excursion into the lower depths of the Malebolge (Bolgia 8,9,10), where false advisors (tra infinite fiamme di fuoco – inside eternal flames of fire), disseminators of scandal, discord and conflict (vivisected in various unpleasant fashions), and finally “falsificatore”, dissemblers of several stripes, and counterfeiters, all suffer their excruciating just desserts ad infinitum. But in the end, it’s all just physics on an eternal loop: every action results in a like and equal reaction….., though our current crop will surely necessitate further condo building on Circle Eight Drive (if you accept the paradigm). It’s the eventual and inevitable reaction that has me worried, considering the crew we now have at the helm in the US, in Britain, in Israel, and on and on. Yet, there are still le stelle.
