Staggering. I’ve always wondered what it would take to send this Frankenstein’s monster, the U.N, into remission.
(Which, BTW, is an insult to Dr Frankenstein, for he. as we all know, used re-cycled materials and animated his creation using a brilliant application of re-newable energy), but bear with me; I deal in mixed metaphor.
the problem is that the premise for the U.N. was all wrong from the start:
Winston Churchill urged Franklin Roosevelt that a body (institution) created and built for, and called the United Democracies was the correct and proper premise to begin an initiative to provide any hope of protecting individuals against usurpation, tyranny, and exploitation by (the very antithesis of democartic republics, namely…) all the various autocracies and dictatorships which now lead the U.N. (and its budget) around by the nose, today.
But by the time it all began in earnest, FDR had died, and Churchill’s party had been voted into minority status, by those Labour Party folks who were anxiously expecting all the goodies they felt British Government owed them for what they had endured in World War 2. That was the result of (Stanley Baldwin’s “Gathering Threats?” “What Gathering Threats?”) policy that had lead to Europe’s inability to confront Hitler through that previous paragon of Conflict Resolution- The League of Nations.
