When I said to Nick that 90% of people throughout all of human existence on this planet have believed in the creation of the universe by an outside force (which has essentially been confirmed by science with proof of an irreversible, i.e., non-recurring big bang) I should have added that this 90% obviously included Charles Darwin himself, who prayed to God many times and who intially intended to become a man of the cloth. In fact at the end of his life Darwin said this:

“In the last year of his life, when the Duke of Argyll suggested to [Darwin] that certain purposes seen in nature ‘were the effect and the expression of mind,’ [i.e., the Creator's Mind] Charles looked at him very hard and said, “Well, that often comes over me with overwhelming force; but at other times,” and he shook his head vaguely, adding, “it seems to go away.”

Conflicted? Yes. But an Unbeliever who could scientifically prove there was no Creator? No. Kant of course proved such proof was beyond the access of Human Reason or observation.
