Charles Krauthammer voiced an excellent idea some time ago regarding the UN. The US and allies should create another UN type organization that only allows democratic countries as members (as determined by Freedom House perhaps?). Then have the new organization receive attention and funds while the UN slowly withers away as irrelevance and bankruptcy ruins it. This would eliminate giving odious regimes influence and a voice on the world stage and might also be politically feasible – as an outright dismissal of the UN would surely not be. Such a move might actually help influence non-democratic governments turn democratic.
