Greetings:

Two aspects of our current situation disturb me; first, the erosion of the intent of the constitutional amendment limiting the number of presidential terms, and, second, the potential for future bribery payoffs.

We are now faced with the spouse of a previous president being a candidate, but consider a presidential couple starting off with a 20 year-old child. This scenario could have one nuclear family controlling the presidency for a generation.

As to future bribery payoffs, one only has to consider the unlimited nature of the presidential pardon power and Mr Clinton’s beneficence to the fugitive financier, Mr. Rich.

Perhaps, the founding fathers considered these implications, but maybe they didn’t. If we needed a constitutional amendment to limit a president to two terms, perhaps it is time to add additional limitations vis-a-vis close family members.
