Truly, I have witnessed as a journalist and human rights advocate the many injustices inflicted upon black men in this world. Because women — and particularly women of color — are forced to bear the brunt of the black male response to the black male plight, the international community and those nations who have benefited from the oppression of colonized peoples have a responsibility to provide women with the protection that they need.
How is it possible, after being the victim of a brutal rape, to absolve the perpetrator of guilt and point the finger at men of another color who are nowhere near one’s body? This projection is absolutely stunning and self-defeating.
The man who committed this crime committed it for his reason and his alone. Without holding him to account, what hope of change is there? If a person cannot own his behavior, he cannot change it.
This sort of rationalization would absolve white slave owners, by the way. They were simply victims of cultural thinking at the time. And the patriarchy? A remnant of twisted religious extremism.
No one would be responsible for any action at any time, anywhere. There is, after all, a context for every crime.
At the root of this absolution is a desire to push personal responsibility on the collective. Unfortunately, the collective was not in that room that night. One man raped one woman.
He alone is responsible. Excusing his behavior is a moral travesty. A society unravels when evil cannot be named and shamed.
Forget collective guilt. It is a collective shame that this sort of thinking permeates liberal thought. This belief in action will utterly destroy society should it go unchallenged.

Excellent article, except for one important detail the author got wrong. Amanda Kijera, the pro-Haiti activist who was raped in Haiti, is white, not black (see http://robertlindsay.wordpress.com/2010/04/25/anti-racist-idiot-goes-to-haiti-gets-raped-and-is-thankful-for-the-experience/ ). But I agree that she should blame the man who raped her, and no one else. May she be healed from her experience, and learn more from it than is evident from her article.
Googling Amanda Kajira reveals what seems to be an unstable person. It’s unlikely she’ll “learn” anything from the experience, if it even happened at all. At her alleged website, http://site.helpingourselves.us/About.html, she claims a history of sexual abuse and teenaged prostitution.
Her essay reads like sexual fantasy, sheer polical pornography. She appears to be a troubled person and Haiti should deport her, immediately. All of this is in my opinion, of course.
She didn’t say that Amanda Kijera was a black woman. But it doesn’t matter what her skin color is, she is a misguided leftist who sees everything in term of race (thus a racist). If a black guy tripped on a pothole, probably she would blame white men in the city hall for purposely leaving a pothole unfixed just to trip black men.
This sort of leftist always talks about European colonialism, but never once think of other kinds of colonialism, like Arab colonialism that conquered North Africa, Middle East and all the way to the gates of Vienna.

I heard a remarkably similar tale from a Dutch tourist who was raped in New York City’s Central Park by a black man: she said “it was the only way he knew to get sex.” In her mind it was his environment, his upbringing, his schooling, or whatever, anything but his own behavior, his sense of risk vs. reward. She lived in an entirely white town in The Netherlands having little contact with black people, so her fantasy was that they were all the same and this is how they act, and it should be excused because…..

I’ve read this story on several sites I’m entirely convinced it’s true. However true or not the point of this tale is to make us feel guilty for not embracing her white guilt fantasies before this assault. This women feels validated by this attack, other commentors here and elsewhere have expressed the hope that she gets the help she needs to cope with this attack. This alleged rape is the least of the mental health difficulties she faces.

It just sounded so much like a story I read – some guy who escaped rape and thus helped nab a serial killer and later ran into that serial killer in prison and he then was able to convert the rapist – oh and then later the guy was cured of AIDS. It just sounded pathologically fanciful. I trust this Amanda’s story about as much as I trust that one.
I first ran into this kind of pathology in the late 80′s. I knew a doctor in training who always happened to be in the right place at the right time. He escaped a bullet because he just happened to be trying out new kevlar vests with a policeman on patrol. Or he saw lights on in his apt and used his new technology car phone to foil the burglars – cops came and all. All his stories were exciting for sure, but when you went home and really thought them through, you realized something was just too perfect about every scenario. But by then you had been suckered by the story and never called him on them. And he had no need to lie in the first place – he was successful in life! Makes me wonder if he B.S.’d his way into medical school! He was slick I tell you.
If the rape victim forgave her attacker because of her religious beliefs, I could understand that. However, such forgiveness is NOT the same as absolution. This woman absolved her attacker, and that is nearly as immoral as the rape itself.

When white people feel guilty about how non-whites have been treated in generations past, I wonder what the “payoff” is to ruminate on these feelings. Who benefits? Who is harmed? If a person has a conscience, feelings of guilt seem to be a healthly, normal response to doing something “bad.” But if someone feels guilty without actually having committed any “sins,” so to speak, then feelings of guilt become illogical, even pathological. Allow me and my shovel to turn over some different “dirt” here for inspection. First, no one knows if a rape actually took place. This wouldn’t exactly be the first time a great “story” turned out to be just that a story. Think of the liberal nobility that she can garner, think of the slaps she now has the “moral authority” to lay on whites. Look at me world, but I rose above it and I can still tell it like it is. And she can be virtually certain of publication.
Second, liberals are, in their minds, morally superior to everyone else–Thomas Sowell wrote a book on this but the name leaves me. Ergo they can “assign” what ever level of guilt to what ever group and upon anyone they like. They own the moral ground upon which we all walk.
Thirdly, what if she were in fact raped? The ends this woman is going to in order to rationalize what was done to her are impressive, in a pathological way. Obviously it is the man’s fault and not anyone else’s. White men rape women also. Is that because of frustration at being oppressed? I was going to suggest that if this woman was carrying and had placed a nice tight grouping of .357′s in center mass she would not have been raped, if indeed a rape had occurred. Haiti has been a free country since the early 1800s. It is 99.999% black and all of its “leaders” are black. True, it is an abject failure as a country but whitey has not been running things for quite some time (over 200 years). Actually the bigger insight into liberal thinking (and specifically its nature as kind of a mental disorder rather than political philosophy) is not the rape itself or this poor soul’s willfully masochistic explanation of its occurrence.
Rather, it’s the fact that she was there in the first place, because only a naive, sheltered liberal would do such a foolish thing. It shows that liberals see the world as they want to see it, in every respect. They want to believe that if their motives are pure, there is less chance of harm befalling them. They want to believe that nobody is responsible for their own behavior. They want to believe that bad things are not innate in human beings, that it’s the unwitting byproduct of some societal structure that is ill-designed.
Why do they think this way? One might as well ask why children are afraid of the dark. There is no explanation, it has its roots in basic human psychological disposition.
I tend to think it’s because they are intensely averse to reality, that they cannot maintain emotional stability if they are too aware of the fact that some humans would kill or harm them. It simply interferes too greatly with their emotional well being. Schizophrenics have the same problem, an inability to filter reality. Think of a common house cat. They can sleep amidst all manner of noise and commotion not because they get used to it, but because the anatomical and biological processes of their brains physically enable them to filter it out. It is just so with liberals. They simply are not wired to filter out the general discomfort they would get from seeing the world as it is. So they pretend. It is mental illness, plain and simple.
Viewed in this light, liberals ought be protected. That is what we do with delicate and emotionally fragile creatures. It’s a shame what happened to this poor woman. I would think a conservative member of her family would know what to do to this man if he is ever apprehended.
Excellent, Mr. B. For an outstanding depiction of your accurate analysis of the mind of a liberal, rent “Tears of the Sun” starring Bruce Willis. It’s the story of a liberal female missionary doctor, (she fits the description you articulate perfectly) whose village is in danger of an imminent military raid, and Bruce Willis and his men are sent to rescue her. It’s brutally violent, but if you can stand that, it shows the misguided thinking and intense averse to reality of this woman, just like liberals.
I especially liked the child afraid of the dark and the cat analogies. Those are bull’s eyes.
Ms. Kijera’s description of her ordeal brings to mind Michael Dukakis’ response to a reporter’s question of whether he would favor the death penalty for someone who had raped and killed his wife. Pathetic.
Re: Tears of the Sun, I would be remiss if I didn’t add that in the end (spoiler alert!), Bruce Willis’ character does the right thing (The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.) by allowing the villagers to escape with them.

Kajera is clearly mentally ill. But the sentiment she expresses is entirely mainstream in feminist and progressive thought. Alice Walker has written approvingly of such views — and her writing on the subject of white women being responsible for being raped by black men is required reading in many women’s studies programs. The letters and memoirs of white female civil rights activists are littered with such self-loathing apologies (can’t call them apologetics) — ditto those of some of their non-white and/or non-female peers, berating rape victims for not feeling appropriate shame. Even worse are the memoirs by children, or naive young women forced into these setting by their parents or activist husbands. The notion that offering oneself for sexual use was a corrective to societal prejudice was widely practiced, and Ayers is far from the only movement leader to be accused of setting up “educational” rape rooms. People like Susan Brownmiller who criticized this behavior found themselves drummed out and labeled racist. She wrote some very interesting things about this back in the Seventies.

This is disturbing. I have to admit, something just seems really off about this story. One of her coworkers abducts her and rapes her just when she’s in the middle of writing a story on this very subject? And her reaction is…not anger and rage at the man who attacked her, to use this trauma to make a point about how her rapist wasn’t at fault, but it was the patriarchy’s fault? Did you actually read the excerpts you quoted? Nowhere does the writer absolve the rapist of guilt. She very clearly says that his anger is misdirected; ie, that he is wrong to have attacked her or any other woman, despite whatever injustices he may have suffered.
