Who Will Speak for the Mothers? Glenn Beck!
Nancy from Jacksonville, Florida, a mother of three, in response to a MommyLife.net request for input on Glenn Beck:
I watch and love Glenn Beck because he’s honest. Because he doesn’t act like some pompous ass. Because he can put into words all the things I’m thinking but don’t know how to say. He can ask all the questions I am asking, but don’t know exactly how to ask. He’s had a hard life, he’s made some bad decisions … he’s normal … he’s not afraid to admit it when he’s wrong. I also like him because he’s funny. He knows how and when to be sarcastic to get a point across.
Liberals can’t stand him because he’s popular. Because his viewership is higher than all of the left/mainstream media put together. They have to find something wrong with him.
I think he’s a breath of fresh air even when politics is old and dusty and full of the same ol’, same ol’.
Nancy’s comment was one of many in response to my call for positive input on Glenn Beck for this article. He seems to have struck a chord among mothers who find him to be — among many other things — honest, respectful, “talking to his audience rather than at them or above them,” a straight shooter, “funny and logical at the same time,” and not pandering or beholden to any particular group or party. A compendium of attributes all conservatives would do well to emulate.
Let’s get one thing clear: I’m not a Glenn Beck groupie, though I’m very familiar with his work in my capacity as an alternative news source for mothers. While I don’t watch television news — even Fox News — thanks to readers I receive clips, review them, and run those that resonate. Glenn Beck’s frequently do.
As a longtime mommy blogger, my blog has unavoidably tilted so heavily towards politics for the past year that a passel of my passengers have jumped ship and have swum away as quickly as they can. Even so, my readership has grown — and grown and grown and grown — as mothers across the country realize that in addition to lunches, laundry, and lullabies we are being called to take a stand for our future and our families.
Sixty of us showed up last Thursday to tape a Glenn Beck special called “A Mother’s Challenge: A 9-12 Report.”
What I observed during the taping said a lot about who Glenn Beck is, what motivates him, and why ivory tower types — both left and right — will never get why he matters so much.
Unlike those who look down upon the masses — as well as those they consider to be the second tier of pundits, analysts, or commentators — Glenn Beck seems truly interested in what “the people” have to say. At this historic juncture, his reaching out to mothers is inspired.
For mothers who’ve been peacefully wrenched from their daily routine of caring for the needs of their families, schools, churches, and communities into a world of political activism — showing up at tea parties, calling representatives, or writing letters to the editor — to hear a famous figure announce that he is interested in what we have to say, especially when he has already established himself as sincere, is nothing short of sensational.
In preparation for the show, Beck asked us to send in our five most pressing concerns. And did we have a lot to say! Forty pages, to be exact — in the interest of time, this was consolidated into three major accusations made by mothers toward our current government:
1) They look to deprive children from being educated on authentic history.
2) They undermine parents’ rights.
3) They are killing our children’s future.
While the producers had worried beforehand about keeping the discussion lively (“Don’t be afraid to jump in! Glenn wants to hear from you!”) — they must have been amazed at how ready for bear we moms were. And how informed. Unlike liberals I encounter who still think it’s enough to slam a conservative with “U R Dum! LOL,” these mothers knew their stuff. Even with a daily avalanche of news poppers — czars, ACORN, the NEA (arts and education), school propaganda, UN treaties, the impending federal takeover of school loans — today’s conservative women are empowering themselves with the ins and outs of issues that they know threaten their daily reality.
While in the 60s the wake-up call was “the personal is the political,” today’s moms see that under a left-leaning government the political is the personal. Every government power grab has ramifications for our families’ security and autonomy. We must push back.
When your child’s school is pushing the sacred text I Am Barack Obama and teaching praise songs in his name rather than His name, you know it’s time to come out of the closet no matter what is waiting outside. The good news is that when moms do, they are often pleasantly surprised. One mother spoke of going alone to an April tea party and meeting two mothers of her child’s classmates. All had been closet conservatives and now are activists: “The Sisterhood of the Mommy Patriots.”
Beck’s show will do a lot to connect these moms across the nation. Beck also challenges viewers — “Do these look like crazy people?” — to acknowledge that we are not an angry mob but everyday people of all colors who’ve looked a little harder at what’s going on in Washington and who fear for the future of our country and our children.
Beck did something that day that I have never seen an elitist conservative do. He acknowledged the absolutely unique position held by mothers. He gave us credit for our part in shaping the grassroots movement to stop Obama’s Contract on America. He really, truly cared what we had to say. And he affirmed that in our power and energy there was hope for the future.
In addition, he was passionate in defending us against those who would hurt us with their stereotyping and ugly rhetoric. You could see he would go to any length — even making himself look foolish — to get people to recognize the truth.
This is the side of Glenn Beck that ivory tower conservatives would find embarrassing and alarming. His genius is in his making himself completely vulnerable, a slave to the truth he wants us to see.
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” It’s because I have a feeling that the coming revolution — and I’m talking here of a cultural revolution played out at the ballot box — will give proof to that spiritual wisdom that I believe that Glenn Beck is in the right place doing the right thing at the right time.
Thank God he doesn’t need the approval of those who see themselves above the fray, as we need him in the trenches.

WELL SAID!! And KUDOS to you for all that you pointed out!!!
“…today’s moms see that under a left-leaning government the political is the personal. Every government power grab has ramifications for our families’ security and autonomy. We must push back.”
“When your child’s school is pushing the sacred text I Am Barack Obama and teaching praise songs in his name rather than His name, you know it’s time to come out of the closet no matter what is waiting outside.”
BINGO. Moving together towards 2010….
We need these Moms because ‘THEY FIGHT”.
“In addition, he was passionate in defending us against those who would hurt us with their stereotyping and ugly rhetoric. You could see he would go to any length — even making himself look foolish — to get people to recognize the truth.”
The words of a fanatic, ‘look foolish and recognize the truth’! G Beck knows his audience and tells them what they want to hear. Feeds their paranoia. This is not a patriot. He’s destroying people by letting them remain ignorant. I thought this was a Desperate Housewives reunion. The poor women are honest but will swallow all the ice cream, cookies and cake . . .
This is where it begins. Moms of this great country have been tasked with setting things straight and passing the word on about Barrack Hussein Obama’s real agenda; socialism. Moms are the backbone of our country. They are being challenged with making sure our children are not indoctrinated in our schools and making sure they have a viable future.
Brovo vivo! Now why don’t you run off and find your audience?
Glenn Beck – manna for the mindless. Here’s how the masses outside his vanguard of useful idiots sees things:
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200909290003
Bingo, indeed.
I saw the show. Those women were a whole lotta goodness. ALL of their concerns mentioned were legitimate.
We need them to organize along with the men and take the schools back one at a time and never be afraid to fight the statist system of indoctrination at our schools.
Good people.
Vivo,
I don’t think you would know a good mom if one rocked you to sleep as a baby, as your mom probably never did. I imagine she was too busy out protesting and biting off the fingers of those who disagreed with her.
You are so right Vivo. These women should not do as Mr. Beck does, ask questions, because asking questions will only leave them ignorant. They should just do as you do, put aside their worries and let Obama just take care of them. Cookies, cake, ice cream, let them eat it all, Obama will keep them from getting fat. And of course their worries are just paranoid delusions. Obama is good, he is brilliant and he is handsome.
Dissent is not patriotic, it is paranoia. Sure, Bush had to be stopped and Cheney was evil. But Obama is the change we have been waiting for: the oceans have stopped rising and the poor and oppressed can finally breath clean air again. Health care will soon be free and all of our energy will be clean, renewable and delicious. Afghanistan will soon be returned to the Taliban and Iran will have its peaceful nukes (too bad about Saddam Hussein). The U.S. is sorry for being so bad and the world, especially Chavez, Castro, Putin, bin Laden and Ahmadinejad, will love us once again. Eastern Europe will again take its rightful place under the benevolent Russian umbrella and even China is helping the Sudan and Cuba with their energy problems.
Yes, the change we have been waiting for is here. You are so right Vivo, we should all just shut up before we destroy ourselves and all of the “Desperate Housewives”. Viva Vivo!!
Moms everywhere should be alarmed that this administration has a “safe school czar”, Kevin Jennings watching over our kids. The editorial in the Washington Times TODAY exposes this. He failed to report a statutory rape of a 15 yr. old boy. This is OUTRAGEOUS! and after today the facts will fade in the background with all the other “Noise”. It is time for all mothers to call, the WH, papers, tv stations, senators, congressmen and any one else they can think of to make a difference. Beck and Rush can only carry so much. Where is the outrage?
Glenn Beck isn’t perfect but he’s asking the right questions and is pleasant to listen to since he has avoided some of the more irksome traits common to pundits.
Possible typo on the second page: they must have been amazed at how ready for bear we moms were.
I was watching that show on Friday, but they cut to Obama giving a speech. I don’t know if it ever went back to Beck. I turned the channel to escape hearing the drone of Obama love fest with hinself.
Beck, like Rush, is an entertainer and a personality. However his research seems solid and he goes deeper into a topic than many other talk-show hosts do. He’s also not afraid to put disparate pieces together and try to see the big picture.
“Todays moms see that under a left leaning government….”
Well I hope they do see that under center common sense democratic party policies and influence….the one that gave them full employment, maternity leave (no complaints there eh?), womens rights, a real path toward peace and a better world, no child left behind, WIN..women infants and nutrition programs, preschool health and affordable health care…. now they will bite the hand …and give all that up for the right wing?..
I dont think so, do you?
Yeah. I’m currently not really able to go /out/ and do with some of the other moms, but I have been talking to my husband about current policies and their impact on my kids. Some of them make me really see red, and it’s nice to know that a), I’m not alone, and b), someone in the big, wide world with a microphone has noticed. Awesome.
Good article. And those main three points are pretty spot on.
Euler, I don’t think it is a typo. The term, “loaded or ready for bear” has always brought along the idea of being outdoors, but prepared for the worst that may befall you, a bear attack. Those moms voicing their outrage at what is being stolen from our children were “ready for bear” in whatever form the threat came!
I agree with Paul #14. Funny how after the Van Jones/ACORN tapes came out every r/w radio and TV host I listen to claimed to have reported on ACORN months ago like they broke the story. To bad for them that’s all they did. Beck not only reported the story but followed up by keeping the heat on. Beck through his TV show is able to connect the dots visually.
So you want Dr. Phil picking your next condidate?
This guy is a phony. They want him to sound as caring, tuned into Moms and their right leaning concerns,as possible.
Yes he’s charasmatic and he says the right things.
Obama is dickering for the 2016 Olympics for Chicago because he is confident it will be a wonderful send off celbration for himself after 8 years. He knows you goops will will follow Glenn to a third party and help him out.
“Glenn Beck seems truly interested in what “the people” have to say.”
Glenn Beck is not an ego tripping whack job. He has his head on straight. And I am sure Beck will occasionally make mistakes. Don’t we all? We must merely point out these errors when they do occur. When everything is said and done—Beck does far more good than harm. That’s why the leftists are so intent to destroy him.
Vivo, N&T, Poor – your kind of fanatics, enjoy:
http://blip.tv/play/hJNRgaO_BAI%2Em4v
mmm mmm mmm, Obama cookies and cake.
*wink
“Well I hope they do see that under center common sense democratic party policies and influence….the one that gave them full employment…”
*snort*
Come join the real world. It’s not a shiny and happy-looking as your fantasy world, but it has the advantage of actually existing.
As a mom I am worried about Obama’s new “school safety” czar. The gay/lesbian sex programs introduced to the schools is endangerous our children in service to adult intersts. The whole racket is so out of control, it is hard to explain in this post; plus it is pornographic. But I am worried for our kids. They have been put under the control of abnormal sexually aggressive public school idiots. Get out of our kids’ pants!
“the one that gave them full employment, maternity leave (no complaints there eh?), womens rights, a real path toward peace and a better world, no child left behind, WIN..women infants and nutrition programs, preschool health and affordable health care…. now they will bite the hand …and give all that up for the right wing?..”
Come again Poor Citizen? Did I read that right? “Bite the hand?” Are you kidding me? “They”..The politicians that work for US… takes OUR money by force to enact these programs… Are you suggesting we are biting our own hand? Sure, some of these programs are good, and others are not, but don’t be fooled by the typical defense of progressivism…. “You either want social programs or you don’t”…”take all of it, or none of it” that’s B.S… I agree in that there are good social programs, but there are many others that are horrible and others that have turned into unsustainable entitlement programs, but they ALL are paid for by us. These programs are a double edged sword…Government is there to defend us militarily, pave our roads, and a handful of other things in my opinion… But the mounting power grabs that have been going on lately are ludicrous. The government is not there to take care of us..The knee-jerk procedure where the government steps in again and again, despite our protests…as happened under Bush, and looks as though will continue under Obama NEEDS TO STOP!
And stop with the left wing, right wing arguments… they are immaterial. Corruption in both parties is the root cause.
RE: #7
Jon Stewart averages a 2 million audience per day, and films in uber-liberal Manhattan. He’s a comedian not a newsman. It’s hard to tell if he takes himself as seriously as some do.
Glenn Beck averages an 8 million audience per week on the radio and 2.3 million per day on TV. He opines on the news, often in a comedic way. You can tell he doesn’t take himself as seriously as others do.
And using media matters as ‘proof’ of anything is lame. Well, it does prove your leanings, but that’s about it.

AMEN!!!
If you are going to imply that Beck is not truthful and does not base his commentary on check able fact…then PLEASE tell us the lies you have found him in. Please date, time, words he spoke.. Seriously, I am interested in this. Emotions aside, facts.
This statement by Nancy is critical:
That is the gift of all great communicators, and here I refer to Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt as well as Ronald Reagan. They put into words what were in people’s hearts and minds but not their mouths.
My knowledge of Glen Beck is limited – basically that he’s a successful right wing caricature – but he will go far with this gift. I hope he uses it wisely.
Almost every time Glenn does a show he asks the audience for input and for anything they disagree with, etc.
I don’t think I have heard that from anyone else in the media…………….it would seem that if Glenn is off on something that his enemies would love to point it out……………haven’t seen that yet but maybe it is coming.
I enjoyed Beck’s show yesterday and kudos to Barbara and to all the Mommies for standing strong for their children and for the country!
B-A-B-Y STEPS!
People who have just noticed Glenn Beck on TV this year are missing out if they don’t hear him on the radio. When you have someone fill a three hour program everyday you get to know the person. It is a lot harder to hide who you really are. I know from listening to Sean Hannity that he often uses words that change the meaning of his facts. When I listen to Glenn I get the whole picture. He has also said for a very long time, “don’t trust me–do you own research, ask your own questions.” That’s what I like about him. He doesn’t profess to know everything. Besides–on the raido he is much funnier.
Great job Barbara!
Party On!
17. Terri: Euler, I don’t think it is a typo. The term, “loaded or ready for bear” has always brought along the idea of being outdoors, but prepared for the worst that may befall you, a bear attack.
Thanks, I wasn’t familiar with that idiom.
Poor Citizen:
No Child Left Behind was instituted by a republican (Bush)and is responsible for helping to increase expenditures in the education system for which there has been no benefit. The democrats can’t take responsibility for my success in the workplace because I won’t allow them to. The social programs they have instituted do nothing for mothers except encourage the state of single motherhood and servitude to the government.
As for world peace- if the price of world peace is having a buffoon of a president run around the world apologizing for me and my country and basically sending the message that he’s a panty-waist who couldn’t, no wouldn’t, defend himself against a demented, holocaust denying psychopath – you can keep your world peace. I prefer my version – where tyranny is stomped out!
10. Dave M.:
“These women should not do as Mr. Beck does, ask questions, because asking questions will only leave them ignorant.”
Asking questions is not the problem, it’s the answers they get.
“Dissent is not patriotic, it is paranoia.”
Dissent is one thing, but your paranoia is not healthy. Listen to yourself.

In this multicultural age, being able to share tribal symbols with the non-elite, middle class, two-parent family masses, and not the cultural elites, is a huge credibility enabler.
Those Glen Beck detractors, vivo, poor citizen, now and then, here and now, etc., whatever,,, are the same people who ardently wish to believe is it entirely possible to neatly pick up a turd if you grab it by the clean end.
vivo states above that; “Dissent is one thing, but your paranoia is not healthy”.
To that I say; dissent is not paranoia, but is the healthiest thing we have going for us today. Without a healthy dissent, without an on going opposition, we will find ourselves in a debt our great-great grandchildren will still be paying for in 2100. Obama wishes to flush the American dream down the toilet. Are we ready for that?
Americans will eventually snap wise to this bullshit. When that happens there will probably be a clean sweep of the entrenched politicians in DC. (except for the few blacks who get the “racist” vote each time). Those representatives who lose their conservative values once they get to DC are the guys who have not represented our view of real American for years. We call them RINOs.
I have to balance my checkbook monthly, why can’t they do the same with the Government’s checkbook??
Though I don’t watch his show much, I do like Beck. That said, I have two complaints about him that I feel are reasonable:
1) He doesn’t let his guests talk. He asks them a question or two, then they answer a bit, then he jumps in and talks-talks-talks until the segment’s done.
2) Mark Levin is right, Beck doesn’t credit his sources. This is not only morally wrong, it is counterproductive: bloggers like Gateway Pundit should be mentioned at every opportunity so viewers can check them out.
I love that show and I hope he makes more of them with the moms and another one with just the dads! I think that was the best show ever (after the Van Jones) Glen please get Sarah and have an interview with her about her book!
Glen you so rock! even with a name like Glen(old fashion) cause your heart is so great!
U ROCK DUDE!
PS: I am a homemaker and I have never been involved in any political action but I don’t want these wierdos to mess up with my kids and brain wash them. Glen Beck teaches me so much about what is going on out there with those crazy politicians.
37. jb:
You need to learn the difference between dissent and paranoia
“without an on going opposition”
On-going opposition is paranoia. Dissent requires specific targets, like overspending or unnecessary wars. Right now, conservatives are just braying and whining about EVERYTHING. Useless attitude. All you get is being ignored.
It ain’t paranoia if they really are out to get you, and from what I have seen we have every reason to think the worst of Obama. He lies through his teeth, surrounds himself with people who believe in forced abortion, forced sterilization and mass euthanasia, and he does not rebuke the people who are worshiping him!
The Mom special was fantastic, and thanks for a great article about it.
Anyone who quotes mediamatters.com is a pinhead! Who funds mediamatters? The puppeteer behind the puppet…George Soros.
THIS IS A GREAT ARTICLE!!!GLENN BECK IS A TRUE MODERN DAY PATRIOT, AND HE’S MAKING PATRIOTS OF US ALL.COURAGE IS LIKE H1N1 IN A WAY, IT SPREADS LIKE WILDFIRE AND YOU CAN’T STOP IT.CLOSET DOORS ARE SWINGING OPEN ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY. PEOPLE ARE NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT AND AGAINST WHAT IS NOT RIGHT AND HAS NOT BEEN RIGHT FOR SO LONG!!AMERICANS ARE DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER PEOPLE ANY WHERE. WE KNOW WHAT FREEDON IS AND WE WILL FIGHT FOR IT UNTILL OUR LAST BREATH. FREEDOM IS LIKE ENERGY, IT CAN NEITHER BE CREATED NOR DESTROYED, IT IS A GIFT FROM GOD TO ALL PEOPLE NO MATTER WHAT COLOR, RACE OR CREED.TRUTH, LIBERTY AND FREEDOM WILL TRIUMPH IN THE END.

Then ignore us.
You comment in every thread. Your comments are very seldom more than regurgitating generic progressive talking points in the threads of articles addressing specific issues and making specific points. The inanity in comment #40 is typical of your depth, style, and contribution to the subject under discussion.
Your ignoring us and not putting your oar in at all is easier than readers looking to organize their thoughts on issues important to them to ignore your comments and the reactions to them.
So please, ignore us.
//This guy is a phony. They want him to sound as caring, tuned into Moms and their right leaning concerns,as possible.//
Golly, do you people ever think before you type. It might be informative if you researched Mr. Beck or even listened to more than one of his shows before you start name calling.
Wait, I forgot, liberals don’t care about the truth…….they care about the message and anyone who stands in the way of that is free game. “Can’t counter the truth………kill the messenger.” Ancient Rome-Liberal America, the more things change the more things stay the same. I personally am waiting for the lions. This time the Christians are much better prepared thanks to people like Glen Beck.
Let the games begin.
Oh and by the by, polishing said piece of “scat” will NEVER make it anything than what it is…..excrement. Even dumb ol’ mommies know that.
Again, if you can’t win on the truth, distract, distract and, that’s right distract.
Excelent. As a mom if three children I congratulate you and all the moms that went to that program. I watched the whole show and had hope after it. God Bless you all.
Hubby and I were freaking out when they inserted the Obama G20 speech over the Glenn Beck mothers. But the show was run yesterday in its entirety. Wow. I went to DC for 9/12 and it was uplifting. But even more uplifting was that show with those women. They were dazzling in their splendor. They were the hope of a nation. They are the heart, and breathe, and blood of us, and they were wonderful.
I know that as a granny, I have less to fear in being fearless. I don’t have to worry about peer pressure from the school teachers or having my child get stigmatized. I have more time and money and less demands (and laundry). Ladies of that show, can I tell you that tears came to my eyes, tears of joy. We TiVo’d it so I can watch it over again.
Is there any way we moms and grandmoms can reach out to the moms of color? Can we offer them some kind of special hero award? I know that being white and a mom and a conservative and a voice is hard enough, but can you even begin to imagine the complete courage of these moms? And each and every one of them got it, it is about the issues. It is about knowing the facts and speaking truth to power.
To every single one of those moms, a salute. To the moms of color, I am humbled before you.
I am witnessing a quiet revolution. Glenn has put a voice to that revolution. I hear it from my elderly clients. They have never spoken to me as they are speaking now. They too watch Glenn Beck.
So it’s not just the Mom’s, the elderly are a consistent group that always go to vote. We will see the results in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
Vivo is the perfect example of the old axiom ‘Empty vessels make the most sound’ his pathetic, moronic, naive and left wing comments are spewed across all threads and the sum total of them amount to nothing just like he does.
I got to this article and site via Johnny Dollar, a blog about Cable News and, naturally enough these days with their overwhelming ratings, focused to a large degree on Fox.
http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/blog/jdp.html
I must say that I enjoyed the article and the comments even more. My username describes me to a tee and is actually my name for family, friends, neighbors and neighborhood kids so I’m not surprised at my reaction.
Vivo, you and a few others here, are perfect examples of a trait I see as disgustingly rampant in many on the left. To wit, a supercillious sense of superiority and a compulsion to praise your own opinions by declaring that all who disagree are nothing more than dumb sheep being led to the intellectual slaughter.
I second this:
“27. gracie:
If you are going to imply that Beck is not truthful and does not base his commentary on check able fact…then PLEASE tell us the lies you have found him in. Please date, time, words he spoke.. Seriously, I am interested in this. Emotions aside, facts.”
Facts and figures, please! Surely anyone of your astounding intellect should have all the facts that your argument is based upon right at hand and brilliantly expressed. Inquiring minds are waiting to be set straight.
If you want the truth and somebody who’ll fight for the little guy, Glen’s your man. We are all fallible but with patience and care we can rebuild this country into a nation God does not want to destroy. Right now we are in the destroy box. So we must continue to fight for and support those who are moving in the right direction.
I am so very glad to find out about 9/12 A Mother’s report. I have been feeling like I was the only one who was out there fighting (in my own small way) for the children of this country (including mine). It is wonderful to see moms with the same concerns and fears I have, standing up for our children. I don’t feel so alone in this battle anymore. I am constantly asking God to show me more ways to make a difference in my country and for my children. I believe that this is another opportunity He has shown me. These moms talked about the things that are on my mind and worry about. I worry that if the radical left have their way my children will not be able to (in the future) worship God in the way they should. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Great piece. I’m glad Glenn really is as nice as he seems on television.
I watched the show. I watched Beck work the audience and control the tempo. He was truly artful. He didn’t manipulate, but he did conduct. It was impressive watching him work. I could see the awe the crowd developed for him. A master at work.
No wonder his ratings are through the roof. Fox is making huge money from his show. What a brilliant move by Murdoch to sign him after CNN foolishly let him go.
Btw, the Left can criticize Beck and denigrate him all they like. They can nitpick away. It matters not. They’re criticizing a guy with monster ratings. They only wish they could be so effective. Ankle-biters attacking a giant.
Beck is right on. He is focused on giving the populace information the MSM is unwilling to provide. He encourages viewers to make their own conclusions and tell him if he has gone too far. He doesn’t tell anyone to ‘SHUT UP …. WE WON.’ That about sums up why he is popular.
59. Marc Malone:
Btw, Glenn Beck averages 2.6 million. And your favorite leftist outlet NBC Nightly News averages 8.6 million.
Let go of my ankle.
#61 N & T – What you say is true, but it is apples and oranges. NBC nightly news has the local news, and is located on basic broadcast (channel 7, I believe). My mother doesn’t get cable. Too expensive. Basic broadcast (2-13) is free.
Fox is cable and national. It is wholesale, not retail. Its numbers oustrip all the other cable networks combined! Its morning show is outperforming the primetime shows of MSNBC. It has recently surpassed CBS News in viewership and continues on up. Were basic cable free, NBC wouldn’t stand a chance.
Furthermore, Beck is on at 5 EST, not exactly primetime. Here on the West Coast, that is 2PM. We can catch the replay here at 11PM (2 AM EST). Still, he generates those numbers. He absolutely dominates his timeslot.
To put this into perspective, The O’Reilly Factor has been #1 for almost 9 years. It’s been around for about 12. In his first year, Beck has almost caught O’Reilly. In the key age demographic, Beck has actually surpassed O’Reilly. Beck tours around the country, and people happily pay to see him. Can the same be said of NBC guys? Please. His books are #1. He still does his radio show, which also gets huge numbers.
Apples and oranges. Beck is a ratings monster.
The problem of and the solution with schools/indoctrination that “moms” worry about can be found in the First Amendment. That amendment says Congress SHALL MAKE NO LAWS regarding three issues: religion, the press, and speech.
If the press and speech were given the same treatment as religion, the likely logical result would be that schools, their textbooks and political views, special guest speakers, and so forth, could not be funded or influenced by the government. Freedom of religion, as interpreted by the men, now women, too, dressed in black, means that there is to be no religious thought encouraged or even mentioned in government (public) schools or even in any other government setting. Should not freedom of speech and media also be anathema? There is much talk of censorship, only when someone outside of the government schools and agencies speaks out against some very questionable and sometimes harmful material being forced upon our children. Deciding what children should read or hear is not the responsibility or the priviledge of government and especially the job of unelected bureaucats. It is, in fact, placed beyond the influence of the federal government in the first amendment: “Congress shall make no law.”
The unjust and inequality of the application of the first amendment stems from the fact that a “father of public education,” James Dewey, yes, as in the Dewey Decimal System, was an atheist who was determined to remove all vestiges of religious “superstitions” from schools. The “public” schools are similar to the proposed health care bills now being considered: they were mandated, plus, they are “free.” How’s that working out?
Thank you for the forum.
