Dear Mr. Bawer, America is very blind. Most of my fellow Americans are good people, but most of them , regarding of their education are not informed about other cultures and political systems.
Most Americans, are not aware that racism, inequalities are more deeply present in most Non Western societies regardless is such society is an Asian as China, a Latin America as Mexico or Brazil, an African nation like Rwanda, Nigeria, an Islamic like Sudan etc.
They are not aware about that Anti Americans is a dogma used across world cultures as a foil to prevent world cultures to face hard facts
That most of the social, racial ,economical problem are home made , they are tooted in their own culture , not America fault
Most Americans sadly intermingling support Multiculturalism , which is a Trojan horse. Most Americans are supporting national hara kiri .
Even Conservatives and Religious people are in self denial.
Once upon the time, the Catholic Church was one of the social tools for assimilation. Catholic schools used many years ago to promote melting pot and Americanization. Today from Mormons to Catholics and all in between, Galvanization, fragmentation of America though Multiculturalism is the norm for religious institutions.
Social Conservatives, under play up , the social conservative values of immigrants but many of them seems to be blind to a reality that a fellow Mormon or Catholic who shares similar social values if he or she consider that their national/cultural identity is for example Salvadorian, Chinese, Ethiopian, Egyptian, and they teach their American born children and grandchildren that their nationality/culture is Salvadorian, Chinese, Ethiopian . Egyptian , spite of sharing similar social values than their American counterpart they are not American but Anti Americans, helping to erode and dissolve and destroy American nationality because a nation in order to survive , needs that their youth without hesitation or doubts identify as part of that nation, as part of the nation culture and feel strong attachment, identification , loyalty, love and pride otherwise when there is not attachment, loyalty, love or pride, and identification , American national identity is destroy . We became Americans when after several generations European settlers started to identify as Americans over Britons .
Can we ever learn the lessons of history and to be aware that just holding conservative social religious values is not a yardstick to measure who is a good American

But we can write, write, and write again till the cows come home. And that’s all we’ll ever do, thinking we’ve done something for the cause. What we must understand is that the muslims already know we’re at war and they act accordingly. They have been taking up arms against us for years. What do we do? Write comments at websites.

We must now realise we are at war with the muslim world (no, not “radical islam” because there is only one islam and it is: Eradicate all unbelievers.) WE ARE AT WAR WITH MUSLIMS. Forget about even Wilders’ “I’m not against muslims, I love muslims, It’s islam I’m against” – well i ask you Geert Wilders, who in particular is carrying out the fatwas and the stonings and beheadings and female genital mutilations … who but muslims? I know this is deeply politically incorrect but we have to strike at the source of the problem: MUSLIMS.

Before the appeasers and apologists and even people who realise in which direction this is all going, wake up and realise WE ARE AT WAR and act as if they understand this truth, the muslims will win. They already have most of the western world’s governments eating out of their hands. We must fight and we must fight now. Who cares of a few headscarves get torn in the process? They are made of cloth, not flesh. It’s the survival of the western civilisation we’re talking about here.

The shame of this whole issue is that the mojority of American patriots that see and know the ideology of islam and it’s basic tenent that it MUST BE SUPREME throughout the globe. This is not multiculturalism this is supremism to the worst degree. Althogh a very good article but shows alot of selective amnesia when it comes to Islam,Jihad,Muslim majority societies (comments about muslim miniroties in west might be correct) Political elite in Europe is bad, for it ignores jihadist islam in the name of political correctness on its home soil, how does supporting Saudi Royal Family, Hussnei Mubarak in Egypt and other monarchies in the arab world make US policy makers any less crimnal since all these governments support sharia and fundamantalism in their countries and probably fund jihad in the west. When it suits US, it can touch pinnacle of hypocysi, in my country Pakistan every time a military dictator has overthrown a democratically elected government it is supported by US be it Gen.Ayub Khan, Gen.Zia-ul-Haq (recipient of the highest amount of aid from US after Israel and Egypt during 80′s and solely responsible for fundamentalising pakistani society, but it suited US in its recruitment of jihadis to fight soviets in afghanistan) or Gen. Musharraf (again an undemocratic ruler despised by his own people yet supported for 9 years by US through massive financial aid) so much for being the leader of the Free world i think when it comes to suporting sharia believing, jihad supporting regeims US political elite and policy makers are head and shoulder above the Europe’s politcally correct elite.

Too few Americans realize that there truly is an Islamization of Europe.

I read Mr.Bawers’ book shortly after it was published and even then “I got it.” Having been to Europe about 25 times during the past 15 years, I was finally able to put into context what I had seen and what I actually was not seeing. I took it very seriously and began educating myself on Islam through books and the internet. What I learned was a real eye opener.

Although I often talked to friends and family about the threat that Islam imposes on America I didn’t get any reaction. Finally, I sent the web links for viewing “Obsession” and “The Third Jihad” (30 min free version) as well as some statistics on the number of mosques in the US (around 2000) and news clips from Europe relating the constant demands made by Muslims who are offended by everything from dogs to crosses and demand that changes be made to stop the offenses. I finally reached them and they finally “got it”.

Also, in another post it was said that 95% of the women in Egypt wear head coverings. This is accurate but not indicative of Islam. I too wear a head scarf while in Egypt to prevent the stares, sexual overtures and just to walk about without waving the American flag and causing unwanted attention.

If America doesn’t wake up soon it will be too late. There will be no one to blame except our government and the media for their constant cover-ups and the insistence of being politically correct at all cost.
