I'm a lifelong Democrat living in Florida who has voted for every Democratic Presidential candidate over the last 40 years. However, the DNC has decided that they were only kidding about their 2000 mantra to "Make every vote count" - they've decided to steal my primary vote come January 29th, a date set by Republicans and also involving a major Republican-backed property tax constitutional amendment. The DNC has also "persuaded" the major Democratic candidates to take the "pledge" and boycott campaigning in Florida. I haven't been this angry at my party since the 1968 convention in Chicago. I and, from the blogs and many other emails/letters I've come across, other Democrats in Florida are also taking a pledge -- If the DNC doesn't count our Jan. 29th primary vote (mine will be for Gravel who isn't boycotting Florida), the "pledge" candidates won't get our vote come November 2008, nor our money, nor our help. The DNC has found a way to lose in Florida. I don't know how big the protest vote will be in Florida, but the 2000 election was lost by less than 600 votes, and the 2004 vote wasn't even close for Kerry. The DNC is alienating some of its strongest base in both Florida and Michigan, its most committed voters. Just call me disillusioned and disenfranchised by my own party, so I'll just shake my head in disgust as they once again find a way to seize defeat from the very jaws of victory in my state. Does anyone really think they can win without Florida this next election?
