The election of the first African American is a momentous occasion. But he got there by never taking a stand on anything and allowing people to project what they want to on him. I have friends and family who supported Obama, yet believe he will do diametrically opposite things. When he has to begin to make choices and take stands, something he has never before done as an elected official, some part of his coalition is going to become massively unhappy. There is a very wide chasm between the moderates and liberals in the Democratic party, and I doubt he will be able to satisfy both. I think you got caught up in the occasion.
