UN: Human Life Threatens Climate!
“Too Many Births Said to Threaten the Climate” read the headline in the November 19 edition of the French daily Le Monde. The headline refers to the new “State of World Population 2009” report published by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The document is called a “report,” but in light of the unabashed and unrelenting advocacy of which it consists, it might be better described as a “pamphlet.” Subtitled “Facing a Changing World: Women, Population and Climate,” what it advocates is combating “global warming” (“There is no time for delay; we are already on the precipice”) and its novelty is precisely to suggest that limiting population growth could represent a crucial contribution to this end.
While protesting — evidently too much — that “no government or United Nations entity is suggesting to ‘control’ population,” the UNFPA pamphlet estimates that population growth has been responsible for some 40-60% of the supposedly climate-driving growth in carbon dioxide emissions. It also contains passages like:
Each birth results not only in the emissions attributable to that person in his or her lifetime, but also the emissions of all his or her descendants. Hence, the emissions savings from intended or planned births multiply with time.

And:
No human is genuinely “carbon neutral.” … Therefore, everyone is part of the problem, so everyone must be part of the solution in some way. The world’s Governments and peoples will need to work together on every aspect of the factors that increase greenhouse-gas emissions. One such factor is the earth’s growing population.
And:
This means that the net emissions savings achieved through a low population growth scenario would be equivalent to the net emissions savings achieved through major investments in energy technologies in a medium population growth scenario.
And:
The low-variant projection assumes lower fertility rates that might result from increased access to reproductive-health services, including family planning. … One study of the cost of averting a fixed amount of fossil-fuel carbon-dioxide emissions found that dollar-for-dollar, investments in voluntary family planning and girls’ education would also in the long run reduce greenhouse-gas emissions at least as much as the same investments in nuclear or wind energy.

This is not surprising to anyone who’s been watching the convergence of the Death Cults. It’s entirely consistent with the Left’s glamorization of abortion, its promotion of contraception and loveless sex, and its general hostility to anything that advances human prosperity and security.
How many boxes on their master checklist could they fill in with laws and policies arising from a global CO2 command-and-control regime?
Please notice they ONLY mean that births in the WEST are a problem. If you suggested that births in the poverty stricken Third World (especially, Muslim countries) should be limited, you would immediately be accused of racism, attempted genocide, Islamophobia, & all the other mandatory vocabulary of brain-dead Leftists.
Furthermore, as studies and census data throughout the developed world show, the birth rates in all First and most Second World countries began falling below the 2.4:1 replacement rate over two decades ago, and continue to decline today. Most recently, even several Islamic countries (notably Egypt and Saudi Arabia) joined the ranks of the “shrinking population base” states.
Actual experts on population, who have been looking for a worldwide population explosion with bated breath ever since Dr. Paul Ehrlich published “The Population Bomb” in 1971, have conceded that what we’re seeing is a population implosion. By 2050, the world population will probably be down to 4 billion or so (this according to the World Health Organization). This means that the population will be only about 60% of what it is right now.
The numbers in First World countries have been slightly skewed in census records by immigration from Second and Third World countries. Slight “bumps” in the last three U.S. censuses were due to this factor, slightly offsetting a falling birthrate overall. But a person who moves from Somalia to the U.S. is not likely to have more progeny here than they did there; furthermore, they are no longer part of the population base of Somalia.
In short, the human population of the planet Earth is already contracting, and will continue doing so for the foreseeable future.
I’d ask “So, what’s this bunch’s problem?” but I’m pretty sure I already know the answer to that one.
The fact that there are any humans at all on Earth, besides themselves and their like-minded cronies, drives them mad. And they are determined to correct this “problem”.
There is nothing more dangerous than someone in a position of political power who believes that their delusions constitute reality. Because they tend to act based on those delusions- regardless of the consequences to others.
Even, or especially, when they see adverse consequences to the rest of humanity as a good thing.

A publication in Canada mentioned some of these things, arguing that population is the problem (paying Kudos to the Chinese mandates/regimes limiting their growth). I guess the hard left are having a “Eureka!” moment, (finally logical a rationalia for unfettered abortion and the promotion of homolifestyle). Perhaps all these things could be answered by a UN promoted supranational licensing system for births . . . where “reproductive rights” cease to exist and the states (or the superstate) issues licenses based upon testing, taxation and political connectivity (just like everything else the UN gets involved in).
I’m a bit puzzled by per capita CO2 emissions graph showing a figure of about 5 metric tons/year/person.
The Department of Energy has the most complete data set and analysis on its Energy Information Administration site (http://www.eia.doe.gov/environment.html) that show US per capita emissions are in the neighborhood of 20 mmt/person. That value is derived by the total US emissions of 5,902 million metric tons (2006) and a US population on the order of 300 million. This per capita emissions in the EIA account have also remaind flat.
Perhaps the author can clear up this discrepancy.
You know, at some point we need to come to grips with the overwhelming evidence and admit this inescapable truth:
Environmentalists have all lost their minds.
We gave them the benefit of the doubt, but now that we’ve had a generation to listen to their predictions and watch those predictions fail to materialize, they’ve lost any credibility they may have had.
It’s time to put this false notion on the ash heap of history along with the other failed belief systems. We must re-evaluate the policies, laws and regulations that were based on the disproven data and return to rationality and common sense.
The era of institutionalized insanity is over.
I keep waiting for these “humans are a cancer!” folks to lead by example and:
1. Stop breeding. IIRC, that Canadian twit who suggested that we all follow China’s one-child policy had two kids herself.
2. Commit suicide. If they really believed in the concepts they espouse, that really is their only moral option.
Of course, you won’t see any of that happening, because it’s OTHER people that are the problem.
Why did the European left fight Hitler? They are so similar: antisemitism, romanticized rural life style, vegetarianism and over population was not going to be a problem in Hitlers world.
Next commandment: if we can’t stop you people from breeding, we will control your diet. No more burrito’s, curried chicken, hot chile peppers, and other food sources known to produce deadly C02 (or is it methane?)…the good news is that planetary “gas” emissions will drop 1% the day after this conference closes.
Joe,
The CDIAC measurements are expressed just in units of carbon. The “O2″ is not included, as in the more commonly cited figures. See here: http://cdiac.ornl.gov/faq.html#Q9. I’ve taken over the titles of the graphs directly from the CDIAC. But I must admit that in light of this fact, they are a bit confusing. Thanks for pointing this out.
JR
If we could just convince communists, leftist radicals and other socialists they should take whatever action necessary for them to stop exhaling, the situation would be selfrectifying. That would be about 2 billion less emitters. Somehow I think many would deny their political views when asked to stand behind their beliefs.
PS. The title of that second graph has now been changed.
May I suggest to the erstwhile people at the UN that if they think there are too many people on this earth, that they can help us all but attaching lead weights to their feet and jumping into the East River. If they find that too daunting, how about a room full of CO. It’s colorless, odorless and definitely not harmless.
Exactly what I’ve been saying all along on PJM, only to be met with scary silence. The elite are pantheists with bloodlines much older than christianity. They play ethnic groups against each-other, while they are interwoven and intermarried on much older, secretive ethnic allegiances dating back beyond the written word. We are played like pawns. Dumb animals, to paraphrase Kissinger, “to be used as pawns for foreign policy.”
This latest CO2 scare is badly concealed sentiment to return the Earth to a garden state, with only some caretakers and an aristocracy which has succeeded in eliminating their Achilles heel: the bourgeois and feudal serfs.
The UN continues to prove how utterly useless this organization has become. Why our clueless politicians continue to pony up a quarter of the $$$ to prop up this worthless and ineffective outfit is outrageous. But I guess I expect too much in believing politicians have any sense at all. Let’s abolish Foggy Bottom while were at it.
The elimination of large numbers of human beings has been implicit in the enviromental agenda since Day One. The green left sees the planet essentially as an overcrowded lifeboat with limited food, water (and air.) Such a situation calls for the commander (in this case the trans-global elite) to make “tough decisions” to eliminate those who are wasteful or can’t pull their weight. They will then impose exacting discipline on the remainder for the sake of the planet. (A writer reporting from Copenhagen beautifully summed up this attitude in the phrase “sentimental totalitarianism”.) The ease with with which eliminationalist thinking has almost casually advanced to the heart of the enviromentalist movement has been astounding. The failure of the elite media to report this abominable trend is a crime of the first magnitude and demonstrates how little they can be trusted in this “debate.”
The Club of Rome lunatics are well and truly running the asylum.
I can sure see why the same crowd who wants to force the US into “CO2 is a poison” mode also wants to control health care. Without control of the medical profession to meet the population reduction and lifespan goals that will be set in order to reduce carbon emissions the US couldn’t use the same procedures and laws that Europeans will implement. I wonder which European nation will be chosen to break it to their Muslim population that they will only be allowed a single child per family. Maybe the European eco-maniacal crowd doesn’t think their carbon laws and their charming Muslim populations are connected, but you can -bet that the moon worshipping crowd will be calling it a disguised way to attack Islam just any day.
I am glad we’ll finally be getting the issue of suicide bomber vs. homicide bomber settled. Once the maximum permissible number of breaths per lifetime is legislated, it’s got to be enforced so some sort of exploding implant will have to be stuck up everyone’s’ methane port. That’ll settle whether or not people blowing up is murder or suicide since there will be state mandated exploding humans and rogue individualist exploding humans. The latter group, naturally, will be the murderers and the former will be suicides since they killed themselves by breathing up their allotment.
Black folks here, of course, will want exempted from carbon regulations since they were brought here against their will. Maybe they can all just get the same sort of financial redress the “developing” African nations are demanding and then we can have the reparations thing fixed. Will they be getting a larger allotment of breaths per lifetime as well? Will breaths per lifetime be different for different ethnic groups? Oh well, I’m sure the UN already has a solution for us, and a solution that won’t be watered down by the nasty democratic process that has been holding the US back for the past century.
It’s good to see the US finally becoming part of the UN as opposed to just remaining aloof; it solves so many things for us.
Regards
The EPA, which we created in the early 70′s, has outlived its usefulness and needs to be shut down.
Since people are flushing the new government minimum flow toilets more often, the next thing will be EPA installed regulators on our water lines to shut down water flow to our toilets when we have used up our allotted flushes for the year. That way, we can return to open sewage and people pissing in the streets. We will be pissing on all the dead government light bulbs that no one will throw in the garbage because of EPA hazardous waste regulations. We thought that by creating the EPA we would get cleaner air and water. We got that and so much more. Now we are getting our lungs declared to be dangerous to our health. Soon we will have to wear orifice inserts with excreted gas converters. We will all talk like Darth Vader until the mandatory multiple language translator and speaking chips are added.
Still we are funding this Gang Green. Oh Well, it did take 60 years to finally shut down the TVA so maybe I am asking for too much. After all the EPA has only been in operation for 37 years.
The planet is becoming an idiocracy. Mike Judge’s movie, though satire is frighteningly true.
The unaccomplished, borderline idiot savants are cranking out kids. Take a look at television for example.
-The arts and ENTERTAINMENT channel ‘boasts of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ and some police program whereas Steven Siegal.. is a cop..!
-Two and a 1/2 Men is the #1 show on t.v. and considered funny (?)
-Oprah, Dr. Phil are considered relevant.
-Real Housewives and other like-minded garbage is anything but reality.
-The News STILL hasn’t reported the CRU emails.
I can go on about politics/pols though there’s only so much time in the day
That’s easy to fix, just get all the Indians, Chinese, all of Africa and the Arabs to quit Dinking and the problem is solved.
Oh, the alarmism of “unsustainable” world populations! The Amazons -gone! Deserts everywhere!! Wars over water!!!
This tale of overpopulation leading us to disaster was already told by Paul Ehrlich in his 1968 book, “The Population Bomb,” which predicted that population growth would outstrip food supplies, leading to mass starvation by the 1980s. Ehrlich was himself echoing Thomas Malthus, who suggested a similar fate awaited us… in the 18th century.
For all their hysteria, at least these previous writers raised the alarm of overpopulation to avert potential human catastrophes. They cautioned humanity for the sake of humanity. But this new batch of environmentalist overpopulation alarmists have no interest in saving man. They wish to save every OTHER species on the planet, instead! Think of it: less humans, so vegetation, animals can flourish! Human life is interchangeable with that of any other living creature. Amazing how they show more respect to every species on earth besides their own.
This “Earth first” environmentalist mantra can even be seen in the 2008 remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” which portrayed humanity as a villainous band of ecoterrorists. Klaatu the alien is sent to convince humanity to change its ways, or be eradicated -in the name of saving the planet. We are only saved because Klaatu is convinced that man WILL change. The message is clear: change your polluting, eco-unfriendly ways… or else.
The goal had always been to preserve our planet so our children could inherit it, for generations to come. But if each subsequent generation has fewer and fewer children -who are we saving the planet for? When did preserving the planet become more important than having children to inherit it? When did the means become the end, and the end become disposable? Does this attitude hide a deeper inner selfishness, where I do not want children, and don’t want others to have children either, as they’ll all only ruin the world I enjoy? Or has environmentalism morphed into a quasi religion, on whose altar we must sacrifice our future generations, in the name of preserving Mother Earth?
The resourcefulness and ingenuity of man has proven wrong all previous predictions of impending overpopulation doom. But if these radical environmentalists are still concerned about overpopulation, they should take the lead (and do the world a favor) and NOT reproduce. Perhaps their mothers should have followed that same advice.
Until the UN and assorted Leftists have the balls to tell the 3rd world to slow down their population growth they need to STFU. Most of the West is already below replacement levels which are steadily increasing the welfare state burden on a shrinking younger generation.
Perhaps the Leftist’s goal is to depopulate the West and repopulate it with the excess populations of the 3rd world. That what the Muslim ME does with Europe and Mexico with the US.
22@Chileno
Look up pantheism. You will find it is much, much older than the old testament religions. It is the religion of the ruling elite, while christianity is the religion of the sheeple. And when millions are murdered in the name of christianity, it is in fact done for pantheism. The modern religions are merely throwaways, tossed in the wastebasket of history every 2000 years according to the astrological age cycles. The stories are recycled for the next phase of the 24,000 year cycle. But pantheism always endures.
Where are you from Mr/Ms kochevnik? I am sure I haven’t been there yet.
There is a very powerful “aesthetics” issue at play here; as in the elitists who privately wonder “how can we rid the planet of these dirty, stupid, over-breeders who are stinking up the place and ruining my beautiful view?” I believe this been a strong component of ecological sciences for quite a while – if not earlier during the study of eugenics and then again with the crap that Paul Ehrlich churns out on population control.
However, people of that ilk and their elitist patrons of many western nations have already taken direct action: they’ve decided NOT to breed at all. That said, I offer this very simple solution for improving the environment on a global scale: enact policies that encourage everyone to get filthy rich. Push economic freedom, limited government interference in commerce, more free trade and lower taxes. The dirtiest, most heavily polluted places on earth are also the poorest; with the the least amount of economic and individual liberty. Surely there are others who see this connection?
@ 24 kochevnik
Indeed! And stupidity, arrogance, and vanity are all much, much older than the Old Testament religioins as well – but that doesn’t make them right, now does it? I’m surprised you have access to the minds of kings, dictators, and religious leaders who have encouraged mass killings in the name of whomever they were promoting – and understand that there was a deeper, pantheistic reason behind their acts.
Pantheism is a basic common sense notion that holds there is holiness in everything. Once you grow up, you may understand that this holiness derives from a personal, minded God, as do most of the world’s people -including particular leaders. That is, unless you truly believe in a secret association of pantheist elites – a modern-day druid conspiracy theory??
And Judaism, one of those “Old Testament” religions has been around much longer than your purported 2000 year cycle.
“In short, the human population of the planet Earth is already contracting, and will continue doing so for the foreseeable future.

As the AGW argument falls apart as a way of controlling people and H1N1 (among other “threats”) has failed to materialize as a certifiable disaster requiring government to step into your life, we will be falling back on other, more conventional, routes to instituting restrictions on private freedoms, e.g., the noise you’re beginning to hear about a “one child” policy for the United States.
Hmmmm, what’s the common theme in all of these moves, oh yeah, I get it….control
Perfect, rash, #18
Decades ago, I joked that “they” would tax you as a function of cubic air volume of your lungs.
Now, such a farcical idea doesn’t seem so remote.
For the record, radical Islamists in Europe and, even, worldwide, promulgate their own human reproduction as a major tenet of Soft Jihad. Hey, when you get the numbers, the philosophical differences won’t matter.
It’s good to see the US finally becoming part of the UN as opposed to just remaining aloof; it solves so many things for us.
The current US/UN ambassador (term used loosely) Susan Rice, is the poster child for UN gobbleygook and UN transnationalist groupthink.
I thought that Obama was going to be the catalyst for real change but instead we get the same old sameold, another yes-man who apparently is doing what he’s told by the elite masters. They really are pulling out all the “Big Guns” to try to pull something out of the hat in copenhagen but the bottom line is that people are too quickly becoming educated in what’s really going on plus the peoples of the world do not trust their own and international politicians because the do not listen to their electorates and instead do what they like instead of representing the will of the people. It is time we reigned in these career politicians at every level and made them accountable. Allow them only one term of three years in office and if they do not do what they are elected to do the people must have the power to fire them, after all if we took a job working for them and we didn’t do what we said we could do at the interview stage, we would be fired. We should also bar lawyers and bankers from entering politics because of the obvious conflicts of interest. We must return the power to the people and clean up the politics at all levels. This world stinks and the ones who stink it up are the very same ones who advocate controlling everyone and everything else.
24. Which is exactly why you will accept the Mark of the Beast, consigning yourself to Hell for all eternity. Sooner or later, one of these Illuminati bankster power grabs (that you say you despise even though you actually agree with them) will succeed in bringing the Antichrist into power (whether or not they are consciously trying). When that happens, you will do one of two things- either you will listen to Elijah and repent, confessing that Jesus is Lord and everything you have said about Christianity was wrong, or you will choose to believe the lie that agrees with your current theology, and you will worship the Antichrist, and you will accept his Mark, damning your soul.
31@myth buster
Although you confuse Middle Earth with the USA, you still make more sense than most repubs. Try reading fables penned by other classic writers and you can nimbly swagger and converse with the best of them anywhere, not merely desolate red-state ghost towns and backwaters. Meanwhile stay away from the Jesus juice while driving your preacher wagon.
Does this wrangling mean that UNers and third world despots are going to have to wait even longer for their money? These people have ocean-side property on offer, children to be sent to US colleges, village elders to be compensated, mistresses to be recruited and paid and luxury cars to be purchased; every time some racist westerner says, “No, the sky ISN’T falling,” these plans have to be postponed yet again.
Absolutely. Not only can we save Medicare. and the US health system, but also the world. If only those over 50 folks would quietly die.
Please refer to the UNFPA exposed video here to see just what vile tactics this organization has already employed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLkw01UaUes
32. I’m not confusing anything; my statement was deadly serious. This shall be I sign that what I have told you is the Truth- a Russian-Iranian led alliance shall descend upon Israel seeking Israel’s annihilation, and every nation on Earth will either remain neutral or join with the attackers. Despite the overwhelming force facing them, and the genocidal mindset of their enemies, Israel will win that war with no help from any allies, and it won’t even be close. Russia, with all her military might will be broken and defeated; her soldiers lying dead on the mountains of Israel. Yes, Russia will attack Israel, and Russia will completely and utterly lose, and so will all of Russia’s allies.
Carla
I am over 50 and do not wish to die at least yet! There are time when I wish it were so especially with grandkids and such but I think I will hang around a little longer I did not participate in Vietnam for nothing to survive and still contribute so you could post a comment. Those of us that served THIS COUNTRY deserve better than others wishing that they die.
