Trickle Down Poverty
Throughout the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan practiced what was commonly known as “trickle down economics.” This was an economic philosophy based on the idea that cuts in domestic spending coupled with lower taxes freed up the wealthiest Americans to spend and invest their money as they saw best. In turn, their capital would trickle down to the middle and lower classes via an expansion of the private sector, the purchase of products, and the creation of jobs necessary to manufacture those products.
The result of trickle down economics, sometimes referred to as “Reaganomics,” was an unprecedented economic boom in this country during the 1980s and on into the 1990s.
As introduced in 1981, Reagan’s plan sought reductions in “regulation, government spending, marginal tax rates, and inflation” — the very things which are going to increase with President Obama’s anti-Reagan approach to our nation and our economy. In fact, less than a month after taking office, Obama actually described “‘trickle down economics’ as ‘bankrupt’ and [as] an ‘old, discredited’ philosophy that ‘didn’t work.’”
Instead of approaching the economy in a way that opens a door through which the poor can use their God-given talents to better their circumstances, Obama plans a state-run economy that will result in trickle down poverty. And for all his talk about “spreading the wealth around,” our president is really poised to spread dependence on a discombobulated bureaucracy.
And while some are just now realizing that “Obama and the Democrats in Congress are pushing the average American into poverty,” others knew we were in trouble from the moment Obama was sworn into office.
For example, after saying “thanks but no thanks” to an offer to join Obama’s cabinet a month after the inauguration, Senator Judd Gregg “warned [that] Mr. Obama’s ‘spend, spend, spend’ budget plans would leave the U.S. trillions of [dollars] in debt.” He also alerted everyone who would listen that the spending necessary to fund Obama’s expanding government at such a time as this would be untenable: “The scale of the administration’s spending plan in the midst of a prolonged recession [will] leave the next generation with a country too expensive to afford.”
What we must understand is that along with the debt Obama is creating comes a loss of freedom. This much is clear from a Congressional Budget Office’s prediction that “the huge deficits [Obama is creating] will [force] the U.S. … to borrow nearly … 6.5 trillion [dollars] over the next decade.”
A nation placing itself in a position to borrow from others for its own survival is doing nothing less than embracing servitude and chaos. Economist Michel Chossudovsky indicated as much when he predicted that Obama’s economic polices will lead “to social havoc and the potential impoverishment of millions of people.”
And Chossudovsky appears to be correct. Nationwide unemployment is now 10.2%, which is more than double the lows of 4.6% unemployment we saw under George W. Bush. And among homeowners with a mortgage, “more than 14% … were either behind on their payments or in foreclosure at the end of September.” Such levels of mortgage default represent “a record-high for the ninth straight quarter.”
But it’s hard to believe that the high unemployment or the mortgage problems are viewed as bad news in the eyes of the Obama administration. Sure, they act like it bothers them when the cameras are rolling and the president is reading from his teleprompter, but one might wonder if they want more and more people to fail so that more and more people look to government for their survival. As Rush Limbaugh put it on November 19, 2009: “This is exactly the agenda. This is the point: Get as many people as possible depending on government.”
And it should come as no surprise that the majority of people being harmed from Obama’s policies are those who bought his “hope and change” mantra hook, line, and sinker. Thus, while the national unemployment rate is currently 10.2%, Rasmussen Reports shows that the unemployment rate among Democrats is 15% and among the politically unaffiliated it’s 14.2%. (The corresponding rate of unemployment among Republicans is 9.9%.)
So while Obama and his fellow socialists talk as if money taxed out of producers’ hands and given “to the government … will eventually come trickling down to the middle class and the poor,” the reality is that poverty is the only thing trickling down by employing these twisted economic policies.
There’s a chance the taste of broadened poverty will wake us up, causing us to reverse course in favor of an economic policy that rests on personal responsibility once more. But we can be certain that if such a reversal does not take place soon, national poverty will prove but a step down the road to serfdom in the United States of America.

When you take the total U.S. population, and subtract the number of people who get a government paycheck, and subtract the number who get one via a government contract, and subtract the number who receive government assistance . . . there aren’t many of us left without a finger in the pie.
“For all his talk about “spreading the wealth around,””
For WHAT??! That wasn’t obama’s talk – that was fox’s talk. Obama made one comment, and that’s his platform?
Rupert, don’t feel threatened.
Quite frankly, Matthew, yes. It turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher got him in an unscripted moment and he let out what was at the core of his economic philosophy – the redistribution of wealth.
Now, you may say that’s not his platform, or that he didn’t mean it, but he did say it (not FOX) and did not retract it, and it’s quite obvious from the policies he’s been pursuing since office that this is his platform.
matthew: Are you intentionally ingnorant or just playing deceptively dumb in your defense of the One?
Madness. I tried to make sense of all this, but I can’t. There has to be a malevolent motive. Please help me define what it is.
No Matthew, that’s not his platform. His platform has to be somewhat public and “spreading the wealth” is completely contrary to the American culture and not politically viable. It is, however, a part of his world view and ideology that I think he intentionally camouflages as much as possible. His list of ties too and comments in support of far left causes is pretty easy to see for those that want to.
Reagan’s economic policies worked and worked well, as every economic indicator will attest. Obama’s refusal to recognize that fact is further proof that he is unqualified for the office he holds.
How many more jobs will be lost, how many more will become destitute, how many families will be destroyed until we wake up to the fact that we’ve elected our enemy?
“2. Matthew:
“For all his talk about “spreading the wealth around,””
For WHAT??! That wasn’t obama’s talk – that was fox’s talk. Obama made one comment, and that’s his platform?”
One comment? Really? Perhaps you’ve forgotten his lengthy interview on the Constitution and “redistributive justice.” Or his slip when he let on that he simply didn’t care that raising taxes reduces revenue- the important thing was forcing the wealthy to “pay their fair share.”
Really, you seriously doubt that this acolyte of Wright and Ayres, this veteran of ACORN, is *not* a redistributionist???,
And while some are just now realizing that “Obama and the Democrats in Congress are pushing the average American into poverty,” others knew we were in trouble from the moment Obama was sworn into office.
Some of us knew it from the moment he won the election, and before that we knew what would happen IF he got elected.
“For all his talk about “spreading the wealth around,” Obama is really poised to spread dependence on a discombobulated bureaucracy.”
That is the goal of the statist. How else can he expect to retain power? He must set himself up as the giver of sustenance.
These people must be driven from the field or else this country is finished. There are enough real Americans left who won’t be forced into socialism that the country may split in two with the socialists and their dependent classes on one side and self-sufficient Americans on the other.
Get as many people as possible depending on government.
Why do you think that the Leftists have been working for 50 years to destroy the traditional institutions of America?
1) Family, look at the black population and the effect welfare policies have had on them. Look at the effect that Feminism (and I’m not talking about the movement for a woman’s equality under the law either) and the easing of divorce laws have had upon families. The ties of family has been severely weakened.
2) Church, the attack on the Christian Church and church goers by the left has lead to falling attendance and a dissolution of Community ties that are often fostered by the church. It has also left Churches less able to provide charity as both their congregations and donations shrink. Regardless of your religion or lack thereof the church is an important component of the community and is of great value.
3) Community, many local charitable organizations have been absorbed, co-opted by Federal funding, or replaced by Leftists run Federal entities. On top of that the educational system on all levels has been taken over by the Leftists and has been indoctrinating the children with Leftist views and propaganda. The “Entitlement” generation has arrived, they no longer believe in hard work, diligence, and excellence unless it involves “pwning noobs” in a video game. Most of which involve available free time rather than any real skill or intelligence.
4) State, the State and Local governments have lost much of their sovereignty since 1865. The process has only accelerated since the “New Deal” as they feed from the Federal money trough. The State feeds at the Federal and the local feeds at the State, but its all money collected from other people in another place.
5) Friendship, even friendship has taken a hit as more and more people have “online” friends and become less involved with actual friendships and social interactions. However I don’t lay this at the feet of the Leftists, its more a result of technology and fallout from 1-3.
Traditionally Americans relied upon Family, Friends, Community, and our State and Local Government when we fell on hard times that were beyond our ability to cope with. Now many look first to the Federal Government to solve all their problems like Peggy Joseph. Why do you think so many Urban centers are so monlithically Democrat? Because the majority of the population are recipients of public funds, thus their votes are guaranteed the Democrats/Leftists who promise them more largess from the public coffers. They know where their bread is buttered and keep voting for more butter.
every time politicians tackle poverty the number of poor increases.
to democrats that means votes. to me it means socialism/marxism
ps. matthew is an !diot
It’s clear that wealth isn’t trickling down. Obama’s goal is lay us all low – the equal footing he has mind for each of us is on the bottom rung of the ladder.
But it’s all Bush’s fault. Obama is only a year into his presidency – surely the great and powerful Obama is not yet culpable.
What’s bad about this is that people know it yet Obama doesn’t seem to mind that they do. He is simply marching on. Implementing all the leftist rules and regulations he can, stifling the economy along the way.
1. GlobalObserver:
Getting a check for providing a good(f-22 raptor) or service(battlefield or say road construction). Is far different than a bureaucrat or welfare recipient.
That actually adds to the pie.
The others are roaches.
1. GlobalObserver: Where does the govt. get the money pie wherein most of us stuck our fingers? You know what, the govt. can print the money, and pay each unemployed $100,000 (I’m cheap, you know.) Presto, govt. created full employment. I wonder why nobody ever thought of that. Oh, take it back: Argentina did, and Zimbabwe is doing it.
Our problem is that our government is just printing money for every program and cause they want to fund. Our problem is that the only employment rolls that are expanding are for the public sector – but it’s all trickling down to the private sector (“it” being a reduction in wealth).
Excellent piece. You’ve nailed the dems on this one.
16. It would be inaccurate to say that military service adds to the pie, but it does make sure that there is a pie and will still be a pie tomorrow. It’s inaccurate to characterize protecting what we have as creating something, though protecting what we already have is at least as important as new production.
Give a man a fish, and he is fed for a day. Give him a fishing pole, some line, lures, a cooler to sit on, some beer, and a hat, and he’ll ask you for some fish too.
$10 Billion Dollars & More per Year For a Fraud?
Canadians are interested in results of what is going on about Climategate in Canada! As it has to do with our lives, lifestyle whether or not we are going to be living in a Democracy or under a Dictatorship?
Jim prentice has stated & PM Harper advocates this as well otherwise Prentice wouldn’t be uttering it”Canada will be paying it’s fair share of Carbon Emmissions! To the tune of $10 Billion per year!” Really, we are already $70 Billion in debt thanks to Michael Ignatieff & the Liberals who up’ed the anti to the Canadian debt load on stimulus!
This begs the question where Jim Prentice plans to dig the $10 Billion per year out of? Did somebody say more Tax?
What is so disheartening about that is the fact that now it’s been found that the whole Climate Emission scam has been proven to be Fraudulent as credible Scientests around the world who were previously locked out of putting their work and findings forth by Jones of East Anglia University and the CRU,were pushed out of the picture with thier observations and experiment results on Climate Change found that not only is the earth not heating up in reality it has been cooling since the 1960’s!
How much more fraudulent can this Scientific Data be? The United Nations and the Globalists are using this false Data at Copenhagen, to transfer our wealth to third world countries? Yet Environment Minister Jim Prentice and Prime Minister Stephen Harper feel so generous with Canadian Tax payer dollars that they are willing to toss in $10 Billion per year on the “hot air” that Ban Kai Moon and Pompus PM Gordon Brown and the rest of the Criminal Rogues that are involved in this bogus Carbon Emission Treaty! As the Bible says,”A Fool and his money are soon parted”! To request that PM Harper doesn’t sign the Copenhagen Treaty, causing Canadians to lose their Sovereignty and Freedom email the PM at: pm@pm.gc.ca,Protest Copenhagen Treaty http://www.gopetition.com/online/32485.html
There are four reasons the UN and IMF, Global Elitist Members Re: Ban Kai Moon ( Who has openly expressed his stong desire for Global Governance ), PM Gordon Brown, Bilderberg Member Henry Kissinger, Senior Bilderberg Member David Rockefeller as well as an unprecedented number of Dictators that run various countries who are members of the United Nations this Copenhagen Treaty that was designed to acquire four goals, the least of them being climate improvment or protection as Lord Moncton has stated!
(1.) To de-industrialize Sovereign Countries ( No Jobs keep you dependant on State ) ( 2.) Take your money and assets – Hence, Fraudulent Carbon Emmissions and Carbon Gases for Carbon Credits and Carbon Taxes! (3.) Take away your property (4.) Take away your Sovereignty and Freedom!
