Top Muslims Condemn Ground Zero Mosque as a ‘Zionist Conspiracy’
In a recent PJM article, I argued that the Ground Zero mosque is counterproductive to Islam. The following day, on August 5, the Egyptian newspaper Al Masry Al Youm reported that none other than Al Azhar — one of Sunni Islam’s most authoritative institutions — agrees, as shown by the following translated excerpt:
A number of Al Azhar ulema expressed their opposition to building a mosque near [where] the events of September 11 [occurred], convinced that it is “a conspiracy to confirm a clear connection between the strikes of September [11] and Islam.” Dr. ‘Abd al-Mu‘ti Bayumi, a member of the Islamic Research Academy [of Al Azhar] told Al Masry Al Youm that he rejects the building of any mosque in this area [Ground Zero], because the “devious mentality” desires to connect these events [of 9/11] with Islam, though he maintains that Islam is innocent of this accusation. Instead, it is a “Zionist conspiracy,” which many are making use of to harm the religion. Likewise, Dr. Amna Nazir, professor of doctrine and philosophy at Al Azhar, expressed her rejection that a mosque be built near the World Trade Center, saying: “Building a mosque on this rubble indicates bad intention — even if we wished to shut our eyes, close our minds, and insist on good will. I hope it is a sincere step, and not a new conspiracy against Islam and Muslims.”
Aside from the hackneyed “Zionist conspiracy” charge, Al Azhar has it right: from negative media attention to subliminal associations with the 9/11 strikes, the “9/11 mosque” has great potential to backfire on Islam. Many other Muslims agree. That Al Azhar has labeled it a “Zionist conspiracy”— an appellation usually reserved for especially heinous charges attributed to fellow Muslims, such as the strikes of 9/11 — is indicative of how absurd the mosque project must appear to them.
Lest Al Azhar be accused of feigning disapproval, bear in mind that its reaction is not a product of sensitivity to, or the desire to peacefully coexist with, the United States (which would be suspect). Indeed, Dr. Bayumi is an open advocate of suicidal jihad: “I say in all honesty that we recruit the people of Islam, and instill in them the spirit of the true Jihad, which is death for the sake of Allah, for the sake of our faith, and of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
Now, here’s the question: if Al Azhar scholars are fully aware of how detrimental the erection of a 9/11 mosque can be, why are American Muslims (such as of the Cordoba Initiative) still relentlessly pursuing it?
Much of this, I believe, has to do with the differing mentalities of Western, as opposed to Middle Eastern, or “indigenous,” Muslims. The latter, who have had little experience of the West, simply cannot believe that Muslims would be so foolhardy as to pursue such an obvious affront to their host nation; put differently, they cannot believe a non-Muslim nation would tolerate such effrontery. Used to seeing, and treating, “infidels” as second-class citizens, it is only natural that the indigenous Muslim mentality expects reciprocity when on infidel soil.

Stereotypes define an entire group or race and you embrace it to the fullest. The constitution has not bearing against any religion. Of course not every moslem is aterrorist. Niether was every German a Nazi, or every Russian a communist. The one thing that holds true about Moslems is a slavish devotion to , and acceptance of , the Koran. 80% of Western mosques are Wahhabists. This may not make them terrorists, this does make them enablers. Like the Nazis could not have survived without the support of the German populace, Islam IS the problem because of there refusal to question some of the Korans more radical elements. Unlike Christianity, Islam is a way of life. Islam adheres to all matters including marriage, finances and judical. that makes Islam basically incompatable with the Constitution, and with most of the western way of life. Thats why Islam in many ways has been compared more to ideologies(like Nazism or Communsim) than religions(christianity, or even less orthodox religions like say, Buddhism). The treatment of women alone makes Islam dangerous. Someone like Achmedemijad with a nuclear bomb and his desire to see the “12th mahdi”(shias version of armageddon) return in his lifetime makes it even more so. Islam must be stopped.
Christianity is a way of life and address all situations of life. It is a personal relationship with God not a religion. We do not force people to become christians nor isolate people when they are not.

Everyone lives in a stew called “society.” Islam is a stew that cooks its individual ingredients, it members, to produce a lumpy final product. Some lumps are greasy, some hard as rocks, some edible, some inedible. The longer the stew cooks, the more uniform the concoction. Only removal from the heat prevents further cooking.

The fear is to be blown up. A natural tendency of followers of the Islamic faith is to blow up other people. They don’t just blow westerners up. They also blow other Muslims up all the time. Islamabad has 1-2 bombs a day, Muslims blowing up other Muslims. It’s just that we westerners don’t appreciate it much. We like our bodies intact thank you very much.
So when a Muslim branch wants to built a mosque that encourages extremist thought, we think it leads to more more blowing up. And we don’t like it none.
Also it’s worrisome to us that they name it the Cordoba Mosque after the one in Spain which was the symbol of the Islamic conquering of Spain. We get the though that perhaps they consider it a symbol of the conquering of the US. And the fact that it is 2 blocks from ground zero where 19 Muslims killed 3000 Americans makes that very disturbing.

Some of us think, we should work actively to minimize this risk. That’s what laws are for. It’s called law enforcement. Protect the innocent. And yes it’s terrorism, when a co worker shoots up his workplace. Not technically though because there is usually not a political agenda behind coworkers gone insane. But it’s just as bad. And it’s something that society should ACTIVELY try to minimize.

Actually, Wahabi *is* the Islamic reformation. Prior to that, Islam had drifted into a pragmatic liberalism which allowed coexistence with the West. When I visited Amman 30 years ago, it was 1/3 Christian, 1/3 Muslim, 1/3 Jewish. 1/3 of shops closed on Sunday, Friday, Saturday respectively – so tourists could find 2/3 of shops open all weekend.
The last thing we want is an Islamic reformation. Liberalism had almost defanged Islam. But it didn’t last. Liberals still act as if their mind numbing philosophy will eventually overcome Islam as it has so many others. But it doesn’t work any better than with Christianity. People leave liberal churches in droves because the platitudes are pointless. Unfortunately, liberal churches (e.g. Episcopal), having lost most of their members, become media “spokesmen” for Christianity, and tell the MSM that most christians want Israel out of Palestine, gay marriage, etc.
The reason orthodox Christianity can coexist with a secular government, is that such cooperation is explicitly commanded in Scripture. Christians are commanded to obey government authority, even pagan Roman authority, except where it directly goes against God’s law (e.g. do not obey orders to murder innocent Jews). The NT examples of civil disobedience were mostly about disobeying orders not to proselytize. And most Christian conflict with today’s PC US government involves arresting abortion protesters, or the guy preaching and handing out tracts at an Islamic or Gay rally – the very 1st ammendment rights that are supposed to be protected, and *are* protected when it is a pornographer or “I hate America” preacher.

If a large number of Muslims can see that this is a bad idea, why can’t Mayor Michael Bloomberg and president Obama? Ironically, if they insist on the mosque being built at that location, many Muslims (who probably cannot believe that anybody could be this tone deaf as to building a mosque near Ground Zero)would probably see this as “A new conspiracy against Islam and Muslims.” If built, the mosque will draw the hatred of Americans all over the country and it will come to symbolize Islam’s contempt for not only the United States but for all non-Muslims in general. This will be a public relations catastrophe for all Muslims, not to mention that the mosque will be used as a symbol for all non-Muslims when it comes to protesting anything Islamic in this country.
What Mayor Bloomberg and Obama just don’t get is that this is NOT a local issue. 9/11 affected the ENTIRE United States and ALL Americans. Symbols matter in this country, just like Mecca matters to the Muslims. If Muslims really want to show “tolerance” and “respect” for a non-Muslim nation like the United States, if they really want to promote a “dialogue,” or “bridge-building,” then they will NOT build the mosque. If they still build the mosque in the face of all of this opposition, then it will clearly show that the mosque always was intended to serve as an insult to all non-Muslims.
And, if built, how many of you out there really think this mosque will NOT be used as a recruiting tool for every radical Jihadist on this planet? I can see it now, hundreds of web sites trumpeting the building of a mosque right next to Ground Zero, one of Islam’s greatest “victories” over the infidels. It may stink, but it’s now up to “moderate” Muslims to prove these killers wrong.

You base everything you say on the argument that the small fraction of Muslims that perpetrate terror do not represent entire faith of Islam. Well that’s like saying US troops in Iraq does not represent the entire western civilization. So we are not responsible for what those soldiers do. Kill, burn, rape – Not our problem.
But all the people you are arguing against here understands that even though the terrorists do not represent every Muslim, they are a result of the infrastructure of Islam. The terrorists are a product produced by the institutions of Islam. Islam is a machine that cranks out terrorists at an ever increasing pace. To stop the terrorism you have to stop the institutions creating the terrorists. And placing a terrorist producing factory on lower Manhattan is not a step in the right direction.
Is it too complex for you to understand that a religion can teach people to become terrorists? And even though not everybody becomes terrorists, the religion is still responsible for those who do?

Is there any possibility that Muslims have a group have varying perceptions about the present situation of the west with regard to House of Islam vs. House of War? Any nation/group targeted for Islam’s demand for submission is dealt with in a sneaky fashion (think taqiyya) as long as they are a “House of War” (not yet conquered). Once they are conquered and brought under submission, then they are called a House of Islam, and Muslim demands and domination come into the open. I would think Islam would still consider us a House of War. If in their estimation they mo longer need to think of us as a House of War, that just indicates we are way, way into submission and they think it safe to move more openly. Are they in disagreement between themselves about how far gone the United States of America is?

How is it, or should i ask WHY is it, that Islam is the only religion in the world that still jails people for displaying non-Muslim holy symbols, It SUPPORTS the Subjugation of women, and EXPLICITLY STATES that a muslim is entitled to kill anyone who dosnt bow down to the Imam.
