Well, now that I see that I was indeed able to reply to "seeker," I can leave my technical note here, to Richard Fernandez, where it belongs.

This old thread obtained the ability (later I presume as PJM upgraded) to reply to individual comments.

Richard, this would be nice to always be able to do this whether or not you permit comments to a thread some years after its topic is “closed.” However, it would be nice to go back as I did this morning and note something that someone said many years earlier that then appears to be worth looking at again.

Wretchard — this really is a nice feature that PJM provides.

I was looking for something related to <a href="http://pajamasmedia.com/richardfernandez/2011/07/08/erase-to-the-top/" rel="nofollow"><strong>"Erase to the Top"</strong></a> in 2011, and stumbled upon this thread from June 2008.

This analysis and prognostication by "seeker" who, unfortunately, left no url link, sure was accurate.

Now, in 2011, within a year of the late campaign for next prez election, Obama's lack of background indeed mattered little. His associates told us where his affinities lay. Too bad McCain was already planning to take a dive before June 2008. Seeker, who sounds as if he was advising the Right, was writing as if he already knew that Obama was gonna win.

On a technical note:
Any regular Belmont Club members who posted and chose to get feedback to this thread will be surprised to see that this thread actually has the ability to reply to individual comments. At least, as I'm composing, it seems to be letting me do that. This would be nice to always be able to do some years after a thread has "closed."

Wretchard -- this really is a nice feature that PJM provides. I must have missed your explanation as to why you chose not to permit sub-threads. Back when you were experimenting with Tocqueville maybe you needed to avoid this feature. Why not try it out periodically for some threads? "Erase to the Top" has several subtopics for instance, and it would be nicer were those comments in the same vicinity of each other. It would seem too to encourage sticking to topics instead of breaking up a single topic like I'm doing here.
