In an exclusive video interview, Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson tells PJM Editor Richard Miniter why he’ll be “shocked” if he doesn’t win next month’s Iowa straw poll. On Iraq, Thompson says oil revenues should be split so that “every man, woman, and child” can get a check. He also recommends dividing the country into 18 regions to defuse the inter-factional civil war. (Miniter comments on his blog here.)

Hmmm, Mr. Miniter didn’t seem to give T.T. as much slack as he did with Romney… methinks that Mr. Miniter has a favorite in this race.
Perhaps if T.T. were a bit more conversational, and less trying to beat his points over the head of the listener, then he would be more appealing.
Does he really want to hold a national vote in Iraq on the issue of whether the US stays or not? That seems like a foreign policy disaster. The Iraqis already have an elected government – what is wrong with dealing with them? Is T.T. implying that the Iraqi election is null and void?
T. Thompson may be a bit kooky, but he comes off as much less programmed than Romney in the interview on here yesterday. Makes him more interesting.
Tommy was a successful governor of Packer Land, and the idea to distribute oil revenues is a good one (one that’s already before the Iraqi Parliament, Tommy), but he strikes me as incredibly naive when it comes to Iraq. Governor? Iraqis voted for a constitution and elected a government: they’re a sovereign nation. Are we now going to dictate their internal arrangements? Would that be acting like the imperialists the Left has been screaming about?
Thompson has either the worst barber, or the worst hairpiece, in existence.
Gee! What is the compulsion to continue involvement in another country’s business. The USA purports to be spreading “democracy,” or making the world safe for “democracy,” but I can’t think of anything good about the majority voting away my rights and property. If it is a constitutional government concept that the USA wants to spread, it should–no, it MUST–lead by example. The example starts with the USA following its own Constitution and laws. Look at how the USA President and Congress simply ignore their “Supreme Law of the Land” by prosecuting undeclared (read unconstitutional) wars and military actions. Look at the USA’s money system–their Congress is supposed to control the value of their currency. But the Congress has ceded (where they have no authority to do so) this power to a privately-owned central bank called the “Federal Reserve.” And what about the USA Constitution’s 10th Amendment. It says “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” What congressman or senator remembers this, and his solemn oath in its support and defense when he votes to rob the treasury to reward his campaign contributers and bring home the bacon to his own district? Which candidate talks most about following the Constitution and the well reasoned intentions of the USA’s founders? I do not think that it is this T. Thompson.
