More seriously though, as a Norwegian and an alumni (MSc, engineering) of NTNU, I can only shake my head, as I have done so many times before. Like almost any western university, the non-science/engineering parts of the university are overrun with the usual crowd of leftists.

While I have firsthand experience of the futility of fighting these things in Norway (the media makes the NYT look neutral), I have called my alma mater to complain, as well as tried to organise alumni to protest the decision. Unfortunately, few Norwegians care sufficiently about almost anything (except more “freebies” from the government) to protest anything, and social-democratic indoctrination is so strong that even most conservatives are social democrats light, incapable of freeing themselves from the world-view created by a 70 years of collusion between the social democratic labour party (dominant since WWII) and the media.

I can only end by hoping the intervals between international displays of Norwegian stupidity will increase in the future. Knowing my country, I dare not hope for more.

PS: Norwegian prosperity is the result of a combination of surprisingly pro-business laws for an overtaxed semi-socialist country, oil, luck, hard work, and a (formerly) uniform population. Google “Dan Mitchell Nordic model” for a decent, though somewhat flawed explanation. Expensive social democracy is NOT a recipe for prosperity.

PPS: Norwegians used to be a nation of strong, independent minded, hard-working people who preferred to be left alone. Now we are a nation of people who cry for government to fix our every problem (and with a bloated government that gladly steps in to do so, then screws up, thereby creating new problems, which invariably lead to calls for more government to fix the problems created by government…). Please don’t let this happen to the US as well. The rest of us need somewhere to escape to when our own governments have grown too large and intrusive.

They have the same problem every western nation has in regards to what this thread is about: unbelievably stupid college students (which is fine…they’re supposed to be stupid), and nitwit left wing politicians, which isn’t fine, but they’re like flies…you’ll never totally get rid of them, so they’re just a little inconvenience of life, that you have to learn to live with.

Yes, old Vidkun would be preening right now, because once more a small splinter group of self-centered pseudo-intellectuals has both sullied Norway’s name and led its government down the path to trouble.

Quisling and his minions were members of Norway’s legislature who came from the university faculty crowd, i.e. the self-styled “intellectuals” (much like this lot). They signed on with the Nazis even before the invasion in 1940 in much the same way that Sir Oswald Mosley’s Blackshirts did in England. After the Nazi conquest, they ran the country for Hitler & Co., until it was liberated by the Allies, in the process raising one of only a few “ethnic” (i.e., non-German) divisions of the Waffen SS, SS Freiwilling Division “Wiking”, part of which fought on the Eastern Front. The rest of it helped their local version of the Gestapo keep the rest of the Norwegians under control- by the most brutal methods they could think of. (The local Resistance gave them exactly what they deserved in return- with interest.)

After the war, at their trials for war crimes (mostly those committed against their fellow Norwegians), Quisling & Co.’s “justification” was simple, and cynical. They believed that the Nazis were destined to win, so they decided to side with them on the grounds that “to the victor belong the spoils”, and because (being intellectual types) they resented the fact that up to then, no one in Norway had been a big enough fool to give them a majority in the government so they could remake the country into their idea of a Utopia. Since they couldn’t attain power the legal way, they decided to grab it by force by riding the Wehrmacht’s coattails. Also, as the author states, they had the now all-too-familiar hatred of Jews that seems endemic amongst European pseudo-intellectuals, no matter what country they are actually from.

My guess is that once more, what we are seeing is a group of self-styled elitists trying to ingratiate themselves with the group they see as the likely winners; in this case, the Islamists. The majority of Norwegians probably don’t agree with them (in fact, the majority of Norwegians probably don’t even think much about the MidEast, having more important things on their mind like North Sea oil resources, etc.), but that won’t stop the “intellectuals” who have control of the megaphone from shouting their latest “inspiration” from the rooftops to convince everybody else – and themselves- that they are far more important than they really are.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Peace with the Pals?

Forget about it.

No peace while they exist. When the Pals have been destroyed as a political unit and driven back to Arabia (just like the Brits were driven out of India or the Japanese out of Formosa), then there will be peace.

But, people who like to dream about peace with the Muslim invaders should feel free to have their little dreams. They’re not going to come true…but, hey, have fun dreaming.
