The Glenn and Helen Show: Jonah Goldberg on Liberal Fascism

It's sure to make a splash, and it's already got some left bloggers in a tizzy even though it doesn't come out until next week. It's Jonah Goldberg's new book, %%AMAZON=0385511841 Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning.%% Goldberg has a lot to say about the "progressive" roots of both socialism and fascism and the way they're reflected in contemporary politics. Plus, thoughts on the Hillary and Huckabee candidacies.

As an aside, Amazon has a review of this book, before it’s been released I might add. The review of the book gives it a total of 1 out of a possible 5 stars. How is this possible?

It is possible in the same manner that Jonah was criticized in several other blogs. Ignore the message, attack the messenger.

I stopped reading the comments on Dr Helen’s column after they became increasingly hysterical. I gather Jonah had the audacity to gore their ox, didn’t attend the right school, has no qualifications to comment, and isn’t saying the right things.

He didn’t even define fascism properly. Liberal apoplexy can be amusing.

As a reformed atheist, I find it reassuring that so many on “my side” are coming around to what Ayn Rand was warning us about from her earliest writings (“Anthem” looks downright prophetic now). Guess I wasn’t completely nuts after all.

Long live Rush and the legion of those sounding the clarion call to resist.(Wait a minute, was that a subtle crack at Ann Coulter there about 25 minutes into this piece?)OH! Et tu Jonah?

I look forward to reading the book, Jonah. I’m glad to see someone else stayed awake during history class. Helen–special thanks for pointing out and identifying what has always ticked me off about Carol Gilligan.

My father, from the early ’60′s always blamed Walter Lippman for perverting the political spectrum by placing a balanced liberalism at the center opposed on the right with Hitler and on the left with Stalin. My father, so he said, learned from the beginning that on the pure left was complete totalitarianism, whether we call it communist or nazi, not a lot of difference. On the far unadulterated right we find anarchism, no state control, or state whatever. Neither pole works, so the balance in the middle is pretty much a balanced democracy like our Founding Fathers invented. My father always made sense to me. I will have to buy him a copy of the Hitler Smiley Face and tell him he is finally vindicated. Good job.

Galleys and a poorly argued thesis.
