So Dr. Hasan was "...a bullied Muslim who was a good person who did not even like weapons," eh?

Anybody else hear about the fact that according to Roanoke County Circuit court records, he'd obtained a concealed carry (CCW) permit in 1996?

I have an article up on my blog by shooting expert Karl Rehn that talks about the Ft. Hood shooting, what to do in similar situations, and how firearms policies helped contribute to the tragedy:

Moho you slanderous Muslim fifth-columnist:

I bloody well remember those Government cars crawling through the neighborhood, growing up in a military community during Vietnam . Everybody stopped, fell silent, and watched them with dread. And sometimes they stopped at my friends' houses. So you can just shove your Hollywood crap, and STFU.

You are unworthy of your son.

One of the more brief but powerful scenes at the beginning of 1998’s Saving Private Ryan is when Mrs. Ryan sees a government car slowly approaching her home. She walks out onto her front porch, only to slowly collapse into sobs when she realizes that the unexpected arrival heralds the death of her sons. There are no words in that scene. Some feelings are simply beyond words.

Um, do you actually have any experience with this, or are you just regurgitating what you've seen in movies. Hint, life is somewhat different. And before you idiots start with your self-hagiography, I have a son in the military. My feelings, though complicated about the risks he's taken and the method that he was shanghaid into the service at 17, I certainly wouldn't compare my feelings to Saving Private Ryan or any other film. That's the stupidest thing I could imagine doing. Maybe that's why all you idiots continue to support these wars long after they're revealed to be a farce, you're only connection to reality is hollywood.

58. Indeed, we are the enemy to all Muslims. Mr. Hasan was a US soldier, what he did is treason, and his just punishment is death by firing squad plus forfeiture of all his property to the Government.

I am not buying, even for the briefest moment that a MAJOR in the US Army was given much crap, at all, about his faith. That's not the way we roll with our own. I know such a thing wouldn't be accepted in the Navy wardrooms. I refuse to believe that the Army is any different (except for during the week leading up to the Army-Navy game, in which I will believe even the worst slander against the Army).

I also refuse to believe that a Major hadn't yet reconciled himself to deployment. He's been in the Army since before 9/11. If he was that conflicted, he should have gotten the hell out.

Even before I heard about his postings and all the other evidence, this was enough to convince me that Jihad was the most likely reason for this. All the rest of the evidence still supports that.

As for those who don't believe that one can be a good Muslim and a good American, I must disagree. Christians have long understood that our own scriptures were written in a different time, with different needs. We are to follow the intent and the timeless principles, even if the details must change. I believe the islamic world can, and should do the same. I have known American Muslims (one of whom I had the privilege of working with during my stint at the shipyard in Newport News) who have done so, with their own beliefs. I'm sure most of the Muslims who bear arms for our nation also have done so.

The real problem is, this reconciliation has not become a big movement, in the same way the Protestant Reformation had (no, that's not a slap at the Catholics, but rather an illustration of how big of a split would be needed). If we really want to defeat radical islam, we need to have somewhere for the modern muslim to go. Radical islam would then wither on the vine.

Any of y'all have an idear on how to make that happen?

All the evidence coming out about Hasan shows that there has been a terrible security lapse in the Fort Hood attack. He told associates he was a Muslim first, an American second, and this put him against a war in Iraq or Afghanistan. But his anti-war emotion called for violent action, He likened suicide bombers to self-sacrificing military protecting their buddies. Why wasn't he on a watch list? Wake up, America.
