The rates on mortgages was 18%. you could get a CD for 15%. inflation was out of sight. iran was holding u.s. hostages. it was a mess. carter should have stayed in georgia, and obama should have stayed in corrupt chicago. Then they will hail all his "accomplishments". That's why he is moving so quickly with full steam ahead. Window may close and his ego can't stand a bad second term. Clinton left as President Lewinsky and Bush got skewered second term. Obama has NEVER proven to be a long-term commitment guy when it comes to work. First terrorist attack and he’s toast. I understand the analogy, and have used it myself. But I think Obama is far more dangerous than Carter. Jimmy, believe it or not, was actually a moderate Democrat on domestic policy. He believed in cutting spending and balancing the budget, and actually did balance the budget. He was pulled to the left, domestically, by a very liberal Congress. He didn't know how to handle the economy, and was a very poor leader. He was pretty far left for the time on the foreign-policy scale. Obama is different. Obama is more of a Juan Peron type -- far left both domestically and internationally, a transnational progressive and socialist who tries to moderate his policies. He's a game-changer. Obama is a skilled leader and is an extremely effective communicator. That is, we have a far-left demagogue, a Latin American style president. Obama has already gotten away with things that would have sunk anyone else, in the primaries, in the general-election campaign, and even in the White House.
