The Most Ignorant Conspiracy Theory of Them All
There have been a disturbing number of conspiracy theories floating around lately. Sure, that’s nothing new — we have the JFK assassination and moon landing conspiracies of the past — but there just seem to be a lot more of them lately.
It started with the truthers, who believe that George W. Bush either knew about the 9/11 attacks beforehand and did nothing or even blew up the World Trade Center himself. And some people also believed that Bush blew up the levies during Hurricane Katrina. And then there is the conspiracy theory, which still persists among some extremely disturbed individuals, that Sarah Palin isn’t really the mother of Trig.
And now we have President Obama, who is the subject of a number of conspiracy theories himself. There are those who think he’s secretly a Muslim — despite his blatant contempt for all religion that elitist liberals share. And there are those who think he’s secretly gay (well, I don’t know of any, but I just assume). And famously, there are the birthers, who believe Obama wasn’t born in this country, and no amount of documentation is enough to dispel that notion from a few crazies clinging to their fact-free assertion.
You’d think we would have had enough of conspiracy theories by now and that the media would be quicker to educate people to keep the theories from spreading. Yet still another conspiracy theory has emerged, even more divorced from reality and the facts than any of the previous ones. And it has already spread, as recent polls show that somewhere between 34% and 37% — more than a third of Americans — believe it. What is this new, insane notion? That the job President Obama is doing on the economy could be described as “good.”
Yes, it’s really hard for an educated individual to understand how one could hold such a belief when it flies in the face of all the facts we see daily. All the other conspiracy theories are, in a way, much more understandable because what they involve doesn’t directly affect the bored individuals who cling to them. It’s easy to just sit online and second guess things you don’t really understand and aren’t involved in, but this economy affects everyone. You’re reminded of it every day when you see all your unemployed friends and family and the high gas prices and just general malaise. How can anyone ignore that? It’s like holding to a conspiracy theory that the sky is orange despite each day seeing how blue it is.
Of course, I could just be making too much of a poll question. A lot of people who say they believe in a conspiracy theory could just be engaged in partisan silliness. Some polls had up to half of Democrats saying they believed Bush knew about or caused 9/11, yet it didn’t really seem from their actions that that many Democrats truly believed President Bush was a mass murderer of his own citizens. Similarly, one could assume if Bush were president now, a number of those saying Obama is doing a good job on the economy would correctly identify wasting trillions of dollars while unemployment only increases as being one of the worst imaginable jobs one could do on the economy.
Also, perhaps some of these polls are a result of simple ignorance, as maybe a lot of people don’t actually know what an economy is to judge whether someone is doing a good job on it. Maybe they think “economy” is a term meaning “reading from a teleprompter” or something. If the poll question were phrased more simply, such as, “Does what leader man Obama do is happy thing that makes more jobs and money or is it sad thing that makes jobs and money go bye bye?” maybe more people would answer it correctly.
Still, there are a number of people who seem to truly believe that Obama is doing a good job on the economy. Dredge through the comments at Huffington Post or visit some forums in the fringe corners of the internet, and you’ll see complex yet incoherent rants saying that what has happened is actually a good thing and what Obama has been doing is smart. You’ll often run into this phrase common among conspiracists: “jobs saved or created.” This refers to an unprovable belief that Obama’s actions created millions of invisible jobs no one can see. Despite no one predicting that the economy would get this bad, the conspiracists assert that it would be even worse without Obama’s millions of invisible jobs and that the unemployment rate would be somewhere between 12% and 80 million% (a lot of conspiracists, of course, aren’t good at basic math concepts).
Unfortunately, these crazy ideas aren’t just restricted to a few weirdos on the internet. The mainstream media often actually treats the idea that Obama is doing a good job on the economy as just another opinion, instead of the counter-factual viewpoint it is. Many TV news shows have these crazed individuals on all the time doing fact-free rants about how smart Obama is on the economy, and numerous papers publish their screeds as just regular columns.
A lot of this seems to be a cynical ratings ploy, though. In fact, the New York Times has now put these people behind a paywall so they can charge a nickel a gander to people wanting to see the freak show. But the media aren’t the only ones misbehaving here; the Obama administration has worked behind the scenes to keep this conspiracy theory alive because they think it’s politically advantageous to them. They’ve reportedly even sent out e-mails telling people what a great job Obama has been doing — something dangerously loose with the facts.
It’s time for this to stop. We have to restore sanity to this country and fight against all these insane conspiracy theories — especially the destructive idea that Obama is actually doing anything useful for the economy. Saying that man didn’t land on the moon, that Bush caused 9/11, or that Obama knows what he’s doing aren’t simply other opinions — they’re false and destructive ideas, and the people who cling to them border on mental illness.
If we’re going to have any useful debates in this society, they have to come from people who all exist in reality — not a place where 9% unemployment and spiraling debt is a “good job.” It’s time for the people trying to fool themselves into believing that Obama is successful on the economy to stop manipulating facts into complex, incoherent webs that support their theories. Instead, they need to take a clear look at the data and apply Occam’s razor to come to the most simple, logical conclusion: Obama is a Muslim sleeper agent doing everything he can to destroy our economy from the inside.

There is betrayal in the WH and Obama is seducing people with his charm – we need look no further than his recent European photo-op tour and campaign stops for the proof.
The real test is coming this Fall as the U.N. pronounces Palestine a sovereign nation at the general assembly and maybe fast-track said nation into the security council – Will the U.S. veto such insanity; condemn the move and fully back Israel’s sovereignty? THAT will be the acid test of whether the POTUS is a secret taquiyya-spewing Muslim, or not. The deceit and double-talk has gone on for way too long.
The POTUS has been graced with opportunities to change his course and come clean, the most recent of which was Mr Netanyahu’s sage words regarding Israel’s history and the country’s current predicament. The POTUS has been thoroughly schooled on the dangers of his policies – again, the opportunity to do something meaningful fell flat. How many more ‘opportunities’ must he be given?
I say we ask the Saudi Kings and Soros where Obama fits in to their schemes.

Boy, it took him a long time to get to the facts of his article! Now we have to decide whether he is telling us the truth or not. With the conditions of our economy and the country as a whole, I think he may be correct about Obama, but the problem is getting the liberal biased mainstream media to report it to the people, so action can be taken by the people to correct the out-come logically.

This is true only if you recognize that Islam is not a religion at all, but an expansionist, enemy, totalitarian political ideology. As such, elitist liberals are perfectly comfortable with supporting Islam.

Not much of a mystery. More than one-half of all workers are in the employ of the government on some level (local, state, fed). This administration has been a boon for those who feed at the tax trough. I’m a little surprise its only about one-third.
When you add workers whose jobs are premised on governmental fiat, you’re looking at a larger number than you think. e.g. it’s the law in all states that insurance is required to drive a car, so if you sell auto insurance, government has provided you with a guaranteed market (and a guaranteed profit!) I put such workers in the column of “employed by the government” even if said employment is indirect.
Well Obama is doing a job on the economy, and insofar as the object is to destroy it, he is doing a very good job indeed.
So perhaps that is why his score is high. How does he score on the question, “Is Obama improving the economy?”

Government workers (I use the term worker loosely because there is little performance requirement) have all hit the lifetime lotto! Beats me how anyone could possibly think Obambi is or was a Muslim. I find it interesting–very interesting–that even conservative journalists unanimously decry “birthers” as the most crazy of all the crazy conspiracy theorists. Why is that?

Actually, PTBW, as took that as humorous satire after I read the note at the bottom of the article that stated, “Frank J. Fleming writes political humor at IMAO.us and is directly involved in numerous conspiracies you’ve never even heard of.” I must admit that when I first read it I was annoyed by it, and thought I was reading some kind of typical leftwing b.s., but as a continued reading the article, and then especially when the author got into factual discussion of the way the Democrats under Obama’s leadership are ruining the U.S. economy and destroying a republic that was once the richest, most powerful nation in the world, I realized that the author is not an empty-headed liberal, but someone who undoubtedly believes some of the so-called “conspiracies” himself, but is simply joking about the foolish rebuttals that the Left uses all the time to explain them away.
If anyone has not yet had an opportunity to read Jerome Corsi’s new book “Where is the Birth Certificate?”, you need to read it and see if he doesn’t have some pretty convincing evidence, including photos of documents, to raise a reasonable question about Obama’s “natural born citizen” legitimacy.

The “birth certificate” Obama recently released was immediately trashed by several different websites, including SMOKINGGUN.COM, one I never considered to be right wing. I even followed the instructions posted by one of the experts on how to use Photoshop to open up the document and look at the various layers of the documnet to see where changes had been made. I am definately not a computer expert. I didn’t even know you could do things like that with photoshop. All I ever knew how to do was correct color and contrast to some degree, and crop it. I printed the instructions, and tried to look at other things that were electronically inserted, but none of them would come apart like that “birth certificate”. I still do not understand how to create a phony document like that.
One of my questions is “If there really is a real Birth Certificate, why put out one that is so easily proved to be phony?” The one he put out proves part of the birther’s claim that he is inellegible for the office, since his father was not a US Citizen. The founding fathers pretty much agreed that the definition of “Natural Bornh Citizen” meant not only that they be born in the USA, but that both parents were US Citizens at the time of birth.
Another question is what passport did he use when he traveled to Pakistan in 1981? You could not do that on a US Passport.
How come people from his past have not come out of the woodwork, like they have for past Presidents? There is only 1 kid I know of who says he spent 3rd grade with him. However, according to Obama’s own timeline, he was in Indonesia at that time, not Hawaii. He is not so old that most of the people are dead, or simply forgot him. How about the 2 Columbia Grads who have separately contacted over 400 classmates, each, and not found any who recall Obama. I can easily make a case where I may not recall a specific person out of 1,000, and even my immediate associates may not recall a specific person, but when none of almost half the class can’t recall him, the questions really start to rise. I find it hard to believe that these 2 people contacted only the exact same people for their surveys. Since he has sealed his records, we can’t prove or disprove anything. It is one thing for Palin to rack up legal bills defending against ethics attacks–(all of which were successfully defended), and Obama spending more than a Million simply to hide his birth certificate and other records. I lost all respect for Alan Keyes for the lousy campaign he ran against Obama for US Senator from Illinois, but his suit against Obama was tossed out of court for “Lack of Standing”. If a person who ran against him lacks “standing”, IMHO, the FIX HAS BEEN IN FROM THE START!!

There’s one question that I’ve never been able to get an answer to, from a birther. I get that you think that he was born elsewhere, or that somehow by a technicality he isn’t a citizen because his dad wasn’t a citizen, and his mom was underage. Whatever it is, all of these conspiracy theories turn on a single idea, which makes no sense: that a large group of people (or even a small group) would have, almost 50 years ago, conspired to conceal where Obama was born. Remember, that notice in the Honolulu Advertiser appeared in 1962. Not yesterday or in 2008, when he was running for President, 1962. Much of the Civil Rights movement hadn’t happened yet. Black people weren’t Senators, for the most part weren’t congressmen (yes, Adam Clayton Powell was, but hardly anyone else). Hell, the NBA was just integrating (a few years before, believe it or not, it was an accepted fact that Black people couldn’t play basketball competetively with whites…figure that one out). Black corporate CEOs and media moguls, actors even, were mostly a thing of the future. And you’re imagining that several people would get together, some of them not knowing one another, and conspire to conceal where this guy was born, so that one day he could be President???!!!???? If, ten years ago, you’d come to me and told me that a black guy with the midddle name Hussein was going to get elected *Senator* I’d have been dubious. If you’d said President I’d have thought you insane. But in 1962, back before Dr. King was assassinated, before the Watts riots, hell before Bill Cosby broke the color barrier and was on “I Spy” as the first black person in the regular cast of a TV show…back then, someone guessed this guy would become President, and so they took the step of getting that birth notice into the local paper, even though it happened elsewhere. They falsified documents, and persuaded people to remember things that didn’t happen, or forget things that did.
As for all of the stuff relating to whether he was a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia, what most of you are forgetting is that Indonesia isn’t a Muslim country the way Saudi Arabia or Egypt are. The Indonesian version of Islam is rather mild by comparison. There’s a Tony Roma’s in Jakarta, believe it or not, and yes it serves pork ribs. It’s my guess that Mr. Soetero was as much a Muslim as the President’s father (who was only a Muslim when it suited him, and even then not very enthusiastic about it; he got drunk repeatedly, and was killed in a drunk driving accident, a no-no in Muslim circles) and just lied about his step-son’s religion and citizenship status, to get him into the school he wanted him to attend. If either the elder Obama or Soetero had been a real conservative Muslim as everyone seems to think, then Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, wouldn’t have been able to divorce either one and just leave them behind, as she actually did. Women in Muslim countries don’t do that as easily as she did; there are numerous books recounting these women trying to get their children back from their Arab Muslim fathers in various countries (Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.) and it’s generally not a pretty picture. But Ms. Dunham never seems to have had a problem.
But of course, when discussing a conspiracy theory like this, you can’t confuse the other side with facts, and logic goes right out the window. The fact that since his mother was a citizen, he’s one too (regardless of where he was born) isn’t an issue, either, strangely enough. That one’s in the friggin’ Constitution…you’d think people would learn.
I think that anyone who faced with the fact that the “long form birth certificate” that Obama first claimed for two and a half years didn’t exist and then miraculously produced last April and every forenic expert has deemed a fake should stop and think more clearly that they must be crazy for asking why no one vetted this guy.
Because they see it as ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’. Too bad we are seen as the ‘enemy’ to the left.
It took us many years to recognize and correct a failure at the national level – that for years radical islam was at war with us.
Radical democrats are at war with us and we’d better recognize that fact and act accordingly.
I love how the main stream media simply ate up the “jobs saved or created” line from the White House. Nobody ever really challenged Obama or Biden on this at any press conferences and now a lot of people simply accept it as established fact. What’s that old saying, repeat a lie long enough and people believe it? Hopefully, the Republican candidate for president in 2012 will make A LOT about it, proving that this administration has been just as terrible as the Carter administration. Also, I’d like to see more Republicans making fun of the term “Shovel Ready Jobs.” Remember those, the ones the “stimulus” was supposed to create? Yep, that sure died a quick death too. Obama is very, very, vulnerable in 2012. All the Republicans have to do is remind the American public what just happened over the past four years.
Not one job has been created since the times of Clinton administration when the Republican Congress forced the hand of Bill “Ah Feehl Yah Pain” Clinton to balance the budget. NOT ONE JOB.
Bush the First was a complete failure in that department and his offspring did not do much better, we just gave him a pass thanks to Bin Laden. Obama is actively destroying the economy. Actually, Pappadave, you are wrong. Jindal and Rubio are ‘native born’ citizens because they were born on US soil, but to be a ‘natural born’ citizen you not only must be born on US soil, but born to parents who are US citizens. The Constitution states that a US President must be natural born, born to US citizens, and the reason for this is because the founding fathers were concerned that a child born to a citizen of another country (who would therefore bestow that country’s citizenship onto the child) might show loyalty to that country, instead of total loyalty to the United States. Obama’s father was a British citizen (Britain having colonized Kenya), which means even though Obama was born on US soil, he is *NOT* a natural born US citizen… and is therefore technically ineligible to hold the Presidency. That Congress allowed him to run is a constitutional travesty.

In the first place, you’re wrong. The only requirement is that *one* of your parents be a citizen (not both) or that you be born in the United States. That’s it. Chester Arthur’s eligibility makes as much sense as Obama’s, and probably has about as much validity. Please go check your facts again, before trying to prove something else and actually proving yourself wrong.
Not true. They are NOT natural born citizens just like obummer isn’t a natural born citizen. Being a natural born citizen requires both parents being citizens. Chester A Arthur was rumored to be born to a Canadian immagrant father and was deemed NOT a natural born citizen.
I do not know for certain that Obama was born in Kenya as his grandmother once claimed any more than anyone here knows for certain that he was born in Honolulu–apparently at two different hospitals on two different days. No one who’s completely trustworthy has ever bothered to do the necessary research. That said, the “documentation” that Obama has magnanimously permitted us to view has some serious problems that haven’t been explained away to any rational person’s satisfaction. Regardless, until some scrupulously honest person DOES the research unhindered and unimpeded by legal maneuvering, the question will always remain. Even polls (which I inherently distrust) show that more than half of those polled doubt his American citizenship. I DO care, however, to know what is behind the highly suspicious activity that has surrounded first his candidacy and then his presidency. I do NOT believe that it is nutty or crazy for me to notice his close affiliations with highly suspect people and groups. If one is trained in the Catholic church, raised in a Catholic school…is calling them a Catholic…a conspiracy theory? If Obama was born of a Muslim father, raised by a Muslim stepfather and trained in a Muslim school, is no part of him “Muslim”?
Did he renounce his Muslim heritage or upbringing? Why would he? Did he partially embrace it? Why wouldn’t he?
I don’t really care about his upbringing, training, or his family ties to organized religion. In a vacuum, it means nothing to me. I only care if it is being hidden, masked, distorted for suspicious reasons.
This is a man who sought out the most anti-America, anti-Israel factions operating in this country. Cooper Union meetings, New Party, the most radical professors. Did he renounce his citizenship in a fit of radicalism? Was he an Indonesian citizen who applied for foreign aid? Did he travel on a passport that was not American?
Did he successfully reinstate his citizenship, if he indeed renounced it?
Taking what I just said above, Frank…could look like a “conspiracy theory”. Those questions are “far-fetched”, without more proof or evidence. Is there even a good faith basis for asking the questions? I don’t know. But, when so much effort goes into hiding something, you are going to get a string of questions that explore what may be behind the sneaky, surreptitious, sleight of hand and stall tactics.
Most “conspiracy theories” are simply “brain dumps” on what “could be” the reason for the covering up of key facts. Most lead to nothing. Blind alleys. Waste of time.
But no conspiracy was ever uncovered, without someone first noticing that something was being hidden…and developed a theory to uncover it.
In the final analysis, I believe you are right. The most compelling issues today are not solved…or even addressed by chasing down the blind alley of whether Obama was born in Walla Walla, Timbuktu or Machu Pichu. Or, whether he is actually a guy who views organized religion as a curiousity to be examined, not a faith to be followed.

It is not a “conspiracy theory” to merely point out that by “natural born citizen” the authors of the U.S. Constitution meant born on U.S. soil to two U.S.-citizen parents. There is considerable historical evidence to back up that interpretation, as well as Supreme Court rulings. Even if Obama was born in Honolulu he is not a natural born citizen because he was a dual-citizen at birth, his father never having been a U.S. citizen.
Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal are also NOT natural born citizens. They are U.S. citizens, but they are not natural born citizens. Their parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of their births.
The Supreme Court rulings absolutely do not back that. They explicitly endorse the opposite, that “natural born” only means born on U.S. soil, regardless of the citizenship of the parents, except if they are foreign diplomats or foreign soldiers during war time.

Which Supreme Court rulings do you refer to, Sam? Because as I know it right now, today, a President must be natural born – that is, not only born on US soil, but also born to parents who are both US citizens. ‘Natural born’ ABSOLUTELY depends on the citizenship of the parents! You are confusing ‘natural born’ with ‘native born’… to be native born does NOT depend on the citizenship of the parents, just that the child is born on US soil. Google ‘natural born’ and you will see that you are indeed mistaken.
So – President Chester Alan Arthur wasn’t eligible to be President. His father was an Irish immigrant who was not naturalized till about 15 years after his son’s birth.
Oh, and Charles Evans Hughes (the Republican candidate in 1916) wasn’t eligible to be President either. Both of his parents were British immigrants who weren’t naturalized when he was born.
(Don’t tell me that the later naturalization cured the problem. Naturalization can be revoked for various causes, such as lying to immigration authorities at entry to the U.S. If the child of naturalized immigrants is eligible, then that eligibility could be removed later if the naturalization was revoked.)

Even if what you say is true, the fact that some previous congresses, like the last congress, were derelict in their duty to confirm natural born citizenship for a prospective presidential candidate, does not invalidate the Constitution’s requirements, or make the current president legitimate.
I’ve looked into this some, and you’re right, but also wrong. *Some* people have put forward the idea that “natural born citizen” means that both parents have to be citizens also, but typically the standard is that one parent at least has to be a citizen, or you must be born in the U.S. *Either* is taken as being good enough to be a citizen. If this weren’t so, then the “anchor babies” thing wouldn’t work. It doesn’t matter if you or I think the anchor babies thing *should* work, the fact is that the courts have generally ruled that it does, and that’s that. A friend of mine was born in Italy, to American parents…but he’s a natural-born citizen. Are you going to advocate a law that penalizes him because his father was in the Navy serving his country? John McCain wasn’t born in the States either, because *his* father was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone at the time. Does that mean he’s not a natural born citizen either? Or are we going to restrict this to Democratic presidents with funny names we don’t like?

If birthers had real documentation of barry soetero’s past they would move on. The fuel of suspicion is fed by NOT having any bona fide documentation. First the birthers are more than people worrying about where obama was born. The main thing is that our Constitution be followed and nobody in a sensible frame of mind would say that obama was really vetted by anyone. There is a long list of questions about obamas eligibility for the presidency. Why is obama keeping his past records so top secret. As far as obama is a muslim you can take that one to the bank, if you understand islam. As far as our economy being getting better, you know if you lie to the people, everyday some will start to believe the lie.
The sad truth is that conspiracies abound, and that the version of American history favored by naive conservatives (as opposed to realistic ones) is full of fantasy. There was MK Ultra, there was the importation of many Nazis into the US; there was Operation Mockingbird and many more. JFK’s assassination was never closed, Oswald is anything but credible as an autonomous lone gunman, given his past, including his military history. As for ridiculing theories questioning the official conspiracy theory of 911, that is a purely emotional and anti-intellectual. The fact is that the Administrations and media have consistently blocked truly objective investigations into the event.
And the ‘history’ of BHO is just obviously so full of muck that all the Republicans attempting to make him a credible President, from Horowitz to

If we all give in and say “you’re right, Obama is obviously inelegable to hold his office”, what then?
