Mr. Hannan has explained his support for Obama clearly and convincingly. His position is essentially that sometimes, and Jimmy Carter is an excellent example, it takes a few years actually seeing tax-and-spend policies at work to remind us all, yet again, that it doesn't work. If it takes four years under Obama to usher in a new era of fiscal restraint and the accompanying economic growth, we will be better off in the long run and so will our kids.

Bush was no conservative, let's make that perfectly clear. His spending habits are more in line with FDR than Reagan, and furthermore, he has given the left an excuse to increase spending even more. After all, where were all the fiscal conservatives when he was in office? McCain's grasp of the economy is worse than any kindergartner with a piggy bank, so he would have delayed our return to fiscal sanity even longer. Let's bite the bullet and remain civil for the next 4 years, and let inflation and interest rates do our bidding in the next election. Short term pain for long-term gain.

Gordon Clown's speech to the EU was more in the way of delivering a job interview: he'll need someplace to earn unearned wages when the UK kicks him out at the next election (or hopefully before, as more of his lameduck ministers slide into sleaze - or end up watching porn at the taxpayer's expense)

Hopefully for Clown the truth that Hannan and others handed out won't spoil his chances of a cushy non-job at the EU. The EU doesn't care about uselessness in office, so he ought to be okay.

Frankly, I think that a Hannan lead new polity based upon the Borjomi declaration would be a boon to common sense.

After all, why should we conclude that borders should remain unchanged?

And...it isn't only MEP Hannan of the UK Independence Party, or UKIP, but UKIP MEP Nigel Farage as well. MEP Farage was on the poduim just before MEP Hanna's speech and gave PM Brown a good throttling too.

JoshC so how exactly is he supposed to oppose the EU in the UK? We all know that the efforts curb federalism in the UK have been a massive failure. Much those I admire the efforts those who opposed the leviathan which is the EU.

An MEP is able to expose stuff no one else can. Before slagging Hannan off it might help if you did a wee bit of research on his efforts (for which he has suffered) to expose EU waste, secrecy and anti-democratic actions.

He is doing far more good as a cranky MEP that he would as a back-bencher in the UK parliament.

I wish, I pray, I beg that someone, anyone, here in the United States would give Obama a verbal thrashing like the one Daniel Hannan did to Gordon Brown. There would be such an amazing shout of approval that the Brits would hear it all the way "across the pond." We need men and women of character and backbone to stand up to this insane liberal democratic agenda that will eventually bankrupt this nation. People here in the United States must stand up, as Daniel Hannan did, and let our worthless representatives know that enough is enough and that we actually are smart enough to know that all this massive spending will quickly lead us to disaster.

Rather than take the count at You Tube, 1.5 million and counting, the BBC took the count from Hannon's You Tube page, which is around 40,000.

Ah Daniel Hannan... one of those MEPs who are against the EU and it's waste and want it dismantled but are quite happy to take the massive salary, perks and unknown amount of dodgy expenses and 'gifts' until that sainted day arrives... AKA a hypocrite.

the correct name is the Labour party, not "Labor" party.

GB needs a Winston Churchill now, Hannan ain't him. I am not impressed by the guy. A lot of his talk in Hannity and other interviews here is just tuned to please the American audience, but not sincere.
